Being cast out of hell
Lily
I knew letting prisoners out of hell is against the rules but it was a child. Now I stand in my cell looking into the small mirror on the wall, my long black hair reached down to my knees and my blood red eyes stared at me. Today I will be banished to earth for my crime of releasing a prisoner two nights ago.
As a demon I have to guard the humans to keep them from escaping. I usually walk around the halls bored and making small chit chat with the imprisoned humans. Through them I have learned so much about earth and it's customs. I have my favorite humans but one stands out her name is Lexie and she is the youngest human I have met. It is unheard of for a child to be sent down here but here she is. She is the sweetest human I have ever met so I never understood why she was sent here. We talked for hours at first she would fiddle with her fingers and shake when I got too close but eventually she warmed up to me. I like seeing her tiny face light up when she sees me but I know I have to get her out of here even if that means I will never see her again. No eight year old child should have to suffer down here alone so I made a plan to get her out. It took a few months for me to get the keys and figure out a way to sneak her to purgatory so she could be reincarnated. Eventually I was able to find a way and I snuck her into purgatory and shut the gate between the two plains.
It did not take them long to realize she was missing or that I was the one responsible. When they found out I was captured and locked in a cell meant for a human. I was more than capable of breaking out of the cell but that could have increased my punishment so I stayed put. While sitting in the cell I thought about what my punishment would be and thought about what I did to receive that punishment. I could not wait to leave hell, I have been here for a hundred years and I was ready to leave.. I smiled as I got dressed and waited for the guard.
I was born and raised here in hell like most of the other demons but I was different. Unlike the other demons I felt emotions, from sadness to anger and sometimes happiness. A time or two I've even felt love. My blood red eyes have also always set me apart, all other demons had black eyes that covered the entirety of their eye, while mine look more human apart from the color.
"Lily it is time" A guard yelled as he opened my door, I took one last look at my short red dress before sliding on my shoes and following him out.
I flapped my blood red and black wings as we walked down the long hall and into a large room. "I hereby banish you Lily Ann Lockheart from hell. May you spend forever in the forbidden land of uncertainty" the judge announced before opening a small portal. The guard tossed my belongings through the portal before shoving me through.
I quickly got to my feet and grabbed all my stuff, I looked around at the miles of woods surrounding the small beach I was dropped on. Most demons hate earth because of the noises, the sun and the water. This is my first time on earth and so far I love it. Since demons can't die we are banished to the worst place for our kind, and that is earth. Earth is full of werewolves, vampires, many animals, and shifters, and very few humans who managed to survive. When vampires and werewolves began to spread around the world most humans and witches were killed trying to fight against them. Most of the humans that survived retreated underground and the witches all but vanished.
Other than me only one other demon was banished over a million years ago before the existence of humans. The only other creatures apart from demons that can live forever are Angels. Angels have not been seen on earth in hundreds of years. Every other species can be killed by weapons werewolves do not die unless you stab a silver dagger dipped in wolfsbane straight into their hearts. Vampires can only die by a bite from a demon or werewolf and other shifters die by removing the head or a stab to the heart.
Earth is far different from hell, hell is very quiet and dark, there are no animals, no plants, and no lakes, rivers, or streams. Hell is also very cold and dry. People believe it to be full of torture, flames and heat but it's not. There is no fire and no heat. Souls are trapped in cold cages with no contact for all eternity, demons just wander around guarding souls. Hell is constantly expanding but it never gets more interesting. Every cell and every hall looks exactly alike and it is easy to get lost.
Demons have children but they never care for them since demons are born with their powers parents do not have to do anything. Most demons do not even know who their parents are and they don't care. No one in hell feels any emotion and many demons never speak. I have always been different and many have noticed. My hair was black instead of white, my wings had feathers and they were black and blood red instead of the leather brown wings everyone else had. My eyes were blood red instead of Black and I did not look anything like the lifeless demons that surround me.
At times I wondered if I was even a demon to begin with. I did not share their indifference, I cared about others and that is what got me banished. Power is something I craved and worked to achieve and from what I could tell I was the only demon who craved anything. If I was not born in hell I may have never thought I was a demon to begin with.
