I was suddenly hungry for her. I needed her. I craved her.

A human? She can't be a human. That's impossible...right?

"Mom, Dad! Don't you love me? Why are you doing this?!"

"The Prince’s gave her to me as payment for the land. We can use her for the hunt. Unless you have other plans for her that is."

(Scarlett POV) "Why so glum babe? Did those assholes come back?" I snapped out of a trance and slightly stumbled forward on my feet. Before I could even react and whip my hands out in front of me, a large hand was holding the hood of my sweatshirt when I noticed I wasn't hitting the pavement below me. I looked over and noticed Jonas was holding my hood. He wore a worried face while his dark brown eyes looked at me. His blond hair was slightly blowing in the breeze. "Seriously, you need to work on the clubs you call feet!" he said with a casual chuckle while he pulled me back to my feet without caring about stretching out my hood or the fact he was choking me slightly. "For your information, I had it under control, Jonas! I was just thinking about stuff." I sighed while I adjusted my now stretched-out hood and fixed my hair, making sure the tie that held it back into a pony tail didn’t fall out or come loose. After that, I started walking, leaving him behind me. I could hear a displeased grunt behind me, then felt him grab my shoulder and whirl me around, "girl, you best get to talking. I worry about you! Your house was practically ransacked while you were in it the other day and Trent didn't do s**t! You need to be aware of your surroundings and be safe for Christ's sake. You’re the only person, other than Preston, that tolerates me." He had worry and fear in his eyes while he spoke to me, "I don't want to go to your house one day and see it empty or with you guys dead on the floor!" I never really saw Jonas worried like this, 'worrying leads to wrinkles girly' he would always say to me. But this time he was being serious and was looking straight into my damned soul! " You've also been out of it since you turned eighteen last week! I swear it's like the second you became an adult you checked out and stopped being you." He said as he let go of me but maintained eye contact. I sighed and turned my back toward Jonas and continued to walk down the road home. Jonas wasn't wrong, I have changed. Ever since I turned eighteen, I've felt like I've been missing something from my life and like I needed to run off and look for it, whatever it even is. "I don't know Jonas. Things change, you know. You're off to college soon and you have your boyfriend to look after! I am stuck here helping mom and dad with the farm along with dealing with that Blood Rose group. I think being eighteen just makes me feel more adult and will maybe give me some more responsibilities." I sighed and slightly got teary eyed at the thought I was going to be left at home and not travel the world like I’ve always wanted. He let out a small sigh and gently held my face, making sure to give a small squeeze, “You don’t have to stay here with your parents. Preston likes you and I know he won’t be opposed to you staying with us.” His voice was gentle but it was obvious he felt sorry for me. “No, I can’t do that to you guys. Plus, you know how my parents are, they refuse to let me go anywhere and who would take care of the animals if I’m gone?” I swatted his hands away and used my sleeve to wipe away the tears that sat on my face. He knew my situation with my parents. They never let me go off the property unless it’s to go to school or help mom with groceries. I was a prisoner in my own home and my dad was the warden. “ Fine, but you can’t stay there forever. You can always run away if it gets too bad. I just don’t like how you’re getting treated by your parents.” His tone was full of sorrow and frustration. Jonas and I walked home in silence after our conversation. I noticed something was off by the feeling in the air when we got close. I looked towards the house and saw a large black SUV with heavily tinted windows. Jonas grabbed my hand and mumbled something under his breath. I couldn't understand it, but I believe it was something along the lines of 'those bastards'. My eyes got misty and I slipped my hand from his grasp and sprinted to the house, leaving Jonas where we stood. The door was slightly ajar as I walked closer, there was a rather large man with jet-black hair, dressed in a white button-down shirt and dark pants. The other man standing behind him, had ashy blonde hair with a similar outfit. The man with the lighter hair looked over his shoulder as I jumped to the side in an attempt to stay hidden. "Please don't hurt us!" that voice was my mother's. She sounded distressed, like she had been crying. "Then tell us where the girl is!" a rather deep voiced boomed, which left me to silently gasp then slap my palm over my mouth. A small sigh escaped my lips when I knew I was in the clear before I went to look back through the crack of the door, but suddenly a man was there, and he grabbed the hood of my sweatshirt and pulled me in like I weighed nothing. My first instinct was to flail around and the only thing I could hear was laughter from the men, followed by the sound of my hand making contact with skin, which I could only assume was his face. As he dropped me on my knees in front of my mother, who was hugging my father. I looked up to see his usual stern face. He didn't even bother to look at me. "There she is, just take her and leave us be. Her stuff is packed in her room, the second door on the left." My father spoke without skipping a beat while pointing to the hallway behind him with his thumb. I was in pure shock hearing my own father speak those words. The very people that birthed and raised me are sending me off to these monsters that had come and taken items and hurt us for as long as I could remember. One of the large men walked towards my room and I could hear rustling and the breaking of items. I could only assume it was the lamp I had on my desk. "Dad? What's going on?" tears filled my eyes as I reached out to him for some sort of comfort. He moved just out of my reach and continued not to make any eye contact. His face devoid of any ounce of guilt. "Isn't it obvious? Your father and mother don't want you anymore. You're payment for the property." The voice that once boomed through the house was now calm and full of authority. I turned around to face the dark-haired man. He knelt down to my level and gently placed his large hand on my shoulder in an ill attempt to comfort me. I flinched and moved away from him as I looked down at the floor with my hands balled in fists. I looked at my mom who was still silently sobbing into my father's chest. "I got the bags sir. We had best get going. We’re already running behind schedule". The blonde man walked out with a few bags hung on his arms. They were mine. The larger man nodded, then grabbed my arm and stood up straight, "Let's go now. I'm sure Jace will be wondering where I’ve been off to." I swallowed hard and looked at my parents. I was filled with a mixture of fear and rage. They didn't even give me a glance as they hugged each other tightly while I was being directed out of my home. I looked at the men. They had to be at least six feet tall. I stood no chance at a mighty five foot three. I decided, f**k it and managed to slip between them and ran towards my parents. I hugged them while sobbing. "Mom, Dad! Don't you love me? Why are you doing this?!" I tightened my grip as my mother started crying and hugging me as well. She couldn't even form proper words between sobs. One of the men ran after me and picked me up, he threw me over his shoulder before starting to walk back towards the door. I gripped the door frame and screamed for my parents to help me. They stood there and turned their backs towards me, while my mother was being consoled by my father. The man was strong and managed to pry me away from the wooden frame, they walked down the driveway and then shoved me into the back of the black SUV. "You are a slippery one, huh? You'll probably fit in well with us." The man, that I could only assume was the leader, spoke to me with a slight hint of amusement in his voice while he was getting into the passenger seat. "But don't try to escape. If you do, well I don't think you want us chasing after you." The other man spoke coldly as he buckled himself into the driver's seat, started it and drove off with me stuffed in the back with my bags in the trunk. I remained silent and looked out the rear window as I saw my childhood home slowly shrink into the distance, which only made my heart ache and feel empty. All those childhood memories of my mother and I baking or my father showing me how to repair broken parts in the car or house, getting left behind. "What are you going to do to me? Why are you taking me? We have animals you can take", I sniffled out words while cleaning my tears from my cheeks with the sleeves of my now messed-up hoodie. The men started to chuckle after giving each other a glance, "We are taking you because your parents used you as full payment for the land. We could use you as a housekeeper for the pack, plus our annual hunt is happening in a month and we haven't hunted a human in many years. I promise you'll be safe up until the hunt." He turned cold at the end of what he was saying and gave me a glance through the rearview mirror with his icy silver eyes as if he was examining me, "My name is Michael Stone, but you shall refer to me as Mr. Stone." To keep the conversation short, I nodded, then continued to look out the window. The drive lasted a few hours, but it felt like a lifetime. Many questions swirled around in my mind. What will happen to Jonas? I left him behind at the house and he probably saw me trying to fight the large men sitting in the front seats to stay inside the house and be with mom and dad. Oh god, mom and dad! Was this Stone guy saying the truth? Do they not love me? Did they send me off to be their toy? He brought up this hunt thing that's happening soon. What's a hunt? Did he say Pack? They’re a gang, not a pack. I'll need to find a way out of here by then. Jesus, first it was crying over mom and now it's a plan to escape and get away from these guys. I reached over and pulled the handle of the door. Of course, it was locked and even with the locking mechanism moved, I still couldn’t open it. Same with the door on the other side. The man driving noticed me in the rearview mirror and gave a devious smirk, “Oh, don’t try that. We put on the child safety locks and what would you do if you even jumped out? You’ll die after three days of wandering around.” He was right and I had no other option than to just sit on the bench in the back and lean against the window, hoping someone would call the police to find me.
