Chapter 3 - Tears oF Night Shade

**Twenty Years Later** **Third Person POV** The room was white. Always white. Cold, sterile, and silent. Mia stood in the center, her eyes blank and her body still. Her boots echoed across the polished floor with each step—a soldier’s rhythm. Measured. Deadly. On the wall, a red light blinked. Orders incoming. > “Mia. Target: Sector Twelve. (Nightshade Pack—those who refuse to bow down to his son, the tyrant Alpha King Thanos. They dare to defy Thanos; they will suffer.)” She didn’t blink. Didn’t flinch. The voice belonged to Commander Thorn, the man who had shaped her from nothing—who had carved a girl into a weapon. Strapping her chain to her thigh, she flicked her wrist, and flames danced across her knuckles. They whispered to her like old friends. “Understood,” she said. As she turned, the floor beneath her vibrated slightly— a tremor. Somewhere far away, the earth wept for what she was about to do. But not Mia. She never wept. With a flick of her finger, she appeared at the Nightshade Pack’s location, the moon casting its light upon her. She removed the chain from her thigh, and the fire in her hand filled the air. The Nightshade Pack saw her; some ran, while others braced to fight. Mia was a myth, a legend. Some believed. Some did not. They called her many names: The Cursed, Demon, Hecanthos, Death, Death Bringer. “It’s the Death Bringer!” Jale, one of the warriors, shouted. (The Nightshade Pack was a small group consisting of 500 warriors, with an additional 500 members, making it a total of 1,000.) Two hundred and fifty warriors of the Nightshade Pack transformed into wolves, the sound of cracking bones echoing as they were led by their Alpha. The other 250 stood in a defensive battle formation, directed by their Beta. (For those who don’t know, Betas are second in command to the Alpha.) “Attack!!” yelled Alpha Jacob before transforming into his wolf form. Mia stood there, observing as they began to charge at her. She wrapped the chain around her knuckles and struck the ground. (This time, the color of the moon changed to a deep red, mourning the lives that were about to be lost.) The ground split in two, and she jumped, hovering above them, her hair now ablaze. She swung her chain, hitting the ground once more while still suspended in the air. Fire erupted from the impact like a fan. Instead of wind, it poured flames. The warriors in human form tried to flee, but were paralyzed, unable to move. They burned to death, their screams echoing. Their neighboring pack heard the cries but did not intervene; they recognized the moon's color and knew it was Myra,(no one knows her real name as Mia except Bill and Thorn) The Death Bringer. “I’m going to kill you!” raged Alpha Jacob, now in his human form. The wolves charged at her, but with a tap of her foot, they turned against one another, starting to kill themselves. Alpha Jacob, now close to her, threw a punch at her face. She dodged deftly to the right, and he threw another punch. She continued to evade him until he finally halted, his arms exhausted. “Now, my turn,” she said. “You can speak?” Alpha Jacob asked, incredulity lacing his voice.! --- Yes, it's too bad this is the last you'll ever hear. I'll make it quick. She grasped him by the throat, his flesh peeling away until he turned to ashes. She glanced back at the wolves, but they were all dead. She stood upright, flying under the moon, which was now returning to its normal majestic color. Sand appeared in her hand; she poured it on the ground, and all the pack members emerged from their hiding places to meet her. Five hundred members now stood before her. (Mia never spoke; she only communicated through her mageblood—her magical power.) Immediately, she possessed one of the members. "People of the Night Shade Pack, go to Thanos and swear your allegiance or meet your doom. So, what's it going to be: Death or Breath?" They all shouted, "Breath!" She blew a gust of wind from her mouth, and they all suddenly found themselves in the throne room of the palace. She flew back to the base called Thanos and said, "Mission complete."
