Epilogue
The heat of the early evening summer sun beat down. Trey sat on a blanket spread on the grass of the backyard. Landon lay with his head and shoulders in Trey’s lap. A glint of light sparked on the gold ring on Trey’s hand as he played with a lock of Landon’s dark hair. Further out in the yard, there was a swing set and Karen pushed Aine in a swing. Nina was stretched out in a lounge chair, her e-reader in her hand. Robbie was dozing in her lap.
Trey looked at the view. “How did the two gay guys end up married to each other with a house full of women and children?”
Landon smiled. “Because we wanted a family.”
“You know our mutual parents would absolutely s**t a brick about us even using the word to apply to us.”
“Their opinion doesn’t matter.”
“I love you.”
