Chapter 2 It was late afternoon when Trey came back to the hospital. He wasn’t entirely sure if they’d let him see Landon again, but there were no objections when he asked. He was, however, told that Landon had taken a turn for the worse, not critically but enough to be troubling. Trey went in and sat quietly on a stool beside the bed. The swelling around Landon’s eye had receded a little. An oxygen tube snaked under his nose. He still looked halfway to dead. Trey watched him for a long time, thinking about how they had grown up together. Eventually Landon woke. His body jerked slightly and he looked around appearing to be disoriented.
