Chapter 1 Baby Formula and Pub Fights
My name is Aria Wilson, I'm a 23 years old college student trying to become a pastry chef basically. But you know what that means, I have no money, I have 2 jobs, and live in a rat hole apartment. What else more could you want more in life? Well, how about if you are made to be the new mommy of the mafia king's baby? Can you now think of anything better?
I was walking from the Pastry Shop I work at from 9 to 5. Fun right.? My waist-length copper-colored water wave curls were partly pulled up, and I was wearing a long-sleeve gray tee shirt and corduroy skirt with tan hiking boots. I had my army green pin covered Rucker sack thrown over my shoulder as I made my way to my 6 to 1 bar job not too far from my rat hole apartment. I look down at my phone at the time which reads 5:15, “Which gives me 15 minutes to spare.” I said to myself. Picking up my place so I could get to the Pharmacy, and also get to my shift on time.
The bell above the door rang as I walked in, and headed to the back of the store. Where the “women's” products were found, and 2 guys at the end looking for baby formula. While I tried to look for the brand I wanted I could hear the 2 guys argue back, and forth over what kind they should get.
“We should get this one, it's the Cheapest,” the younger one said. He had curly light brown hair and didn’t look much taller than me, maybe a couple of inches.
“But this Doctor recommended,” the older one said with a black hoodie.
“They all say Doctor recommended,” the curly one contained. They still contained to go back and forth.
“How old is the baby?” I asked, shining.
“What?” the curly-haired one asked, turning around.
“How old is the baby?” I asked again.
“Um, she’s about to be 2 months," the guy with curly hair answers.
"Is she breastfeed?" I ask.
"What?"
"Do I really need to repeat myself?" I said, look at my watch I had 5 minutes left.
"She's not," it was the man in the black hoodie who answered this time.
"So I would recommend Similac even though it's more expensive It's what my pediatric recommend for me, anyway,"
"Pediatric?"
"Do you know what I'm about to be late for work," I said looking at them straight on, grabbing a pen from my pocket I quickly wrote my phone numbers on the curly guy's hand. "Just call me if you have any more questions?" I said before I ran to the cleric and then out the door.
I arrived with only a minute to spare, but to be honest I don’t think Niall would care so much if I was a little late. He was the owner of the bar, which was more of an Irish Pub than anything else. I walked into the Pub with its peanut shell-covered floor, which was already crowded with people drinking, laughing, and playing darts. I walk over behind the bar and slide my bag under the counter, before tying a white apron around my waist. “Sorry, Eria I didn’t know it was going to get this busy.”
“It’s fine Doll,” Niall said, he was an 82-year-old man you got around like he was in his 20’s. The years had made him short with gray hair, and red skin with smile lines on the corner of his eyes.
“Are you sure?” I asked, grabbing a couple of mugs and filling them with beer.
“I’m sure Doll face, you don't have to worry about an old man like me,” he chuckled, As I passed out drinks to the people sitting at the bar. The rest of the evening went by pretty slowly until about around 10 o’clock when one of the girls can behind the bar with tears in her eyes.
“Molly, what wrong?” I asked, throwing the tall I was cleaning the corner over my shoulder. Molly is a very timmed, dark-haired girl with a good figure, and sometimes so tired that I don’t even know how she works in the bar like this.
“Um… it’s nothing,” she said, wiping the corner of her eyes as she grabbed her order.
Rolling my eyes I look over to the group Molly was working at, and just by the look, I could tell they were ruff. “Molly, you can stay here behind the bar,” I said, taking the tray she had in her hands.
“Aria-” she was about to eject, but I already left.
I walked over to the group of guys sitting in the corner. There were 5 of them in total. 2 of them were clearly the leaders sitting at the table, and the other 3 were just lackeys standing behind their boss. The two guys were clearly having an " important" discussion.
But, I really don't care. They were messing with Molly which meant they were messing with my Job.
"Ok, guy's what where are your drinks?" I asked, looking over the tray, there were two whiskeys on rocks, to tap beer, and two in a bottle.
“Where’s the dark-haired chick?” Ask one of the lackeys. He had Hazel's almost yellow eyes with brown hair comb back. Very Handsome, handsome, a nuff you want to throw up.
“Her name is Molly, and she is busy. Now, what are your drinks?” I ask again.
“I think De here is right where is sexy ba-” one of the other guys said. He did not look so hot, he had black hair and not clean shave, and I’m pretty sure he is missing one of his teeth in the front.
“Sorry, I didn’t bring sexy anything, What are your drinks again?” I asked again
“Come bab-”
“Jayde stop. Cloven get your man to stop harassing the staff here. If you keep this up the Irish are going to kick us out, and we're not done with this Conversation,” this time it was one of the men sitting at the table. I could tell he was tall even though he was sitting down, he had a long black rockabilly haircut with a shaved side, and cat green eyes that seem to always be watching. “And you can just leave the drinks right there, thanks.”
“Well, if that is it, I will be at the bar if you need anything. I will be at the bar,” I said, placing the drinks on the table, before heading to the bar. After that the rest of the time was slow.
As I came back to the bar with a few empty glasses I got after cleaning off some tables. I gave them to Molly who was now working behind the bar. As I did she sat a large mug of beer in front of me. “what ‘s this for?” I asked.
“It’s for the guy over there,” she said nodding towards a very, very, large man standing by the back wall who seems to be watching the group sitting over in the corner, “He’s been here practically as long as that group has been, and he won’t stop watching them,” she said leaning in and whispered yell at me.
"Ok? So did he order this?" I asked, having a feeling there is more to this than meets the eye.
"Not really…But that doesn't matter anyway just take it to him." said kind of showing me away.
I let a small chuckle as I squeezed my way over to the man. He seemed to get even taller the closer I got he had red hair flipped over to one side, and a matching long beard. He seemed to have not noticed me until I placed the mug on the table he was leaning on.
"Um… I didn't order anything," he said, finally looking at me.
"Yeah, It's from the dark-haired girl working at the bar," I said nodding in Molly's direction. Who seemed to kind of be watching us. The guy with red hair seemed to notice and waved at her, even from here I could see her face turned red as she tried to cover it.
I heard the guy behind me let out a chuckle, " Tell Her I said thank you."
"Will do," I said smiling as I headed back to the bar, but taking my time in the process.
“Why were you taking so long? What did he say?” Molly asked almost completely over the bar.
“First get me a whiskey and a beer then I will tell,” I said, to be honest, I’m just trying to get under her skin.
“Ugh.. you're unbelievable!” she said, as she threw her hands and turned around to find the whiskey. But, I’m not such a mean friend while she made the drinks I told her what the man said, and might have also teased her a bit about it, but after that, the rest of the evening went by really slowly.
Only 15 min. left and I can sleep. How couldn’t a girl be happy!?
“ WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!” and I heard a chair screech across the floor, and a glass crash on the floor. As I looked over I could see 2 off the lackey brawling it out.
“Hey, hey, break it up!” I said putting the drinks I had on the down, before the whole bar broke out in a fight, and destroyed everything. As I got closer I could see the fighter was a guy with the missing tooth and the red-haired man from before. “Hey, I ask y-” Instead of breaking up the fight, I’m now sitting on my butt with the taste of blood in my mouth from a busted lip. The whole bar went quiet and everyone seemed to freeze once I hit the floor.
“Oh, Lassy are you alright?” the red-haired guy said as tried to help me up before I felt being picked up by someone else.
“I wouldn’t touch her again if I were you,” I already knew who the person who spoke was. It was Gerald a cop and also Niall Great, great-grandson, and his backing was two guys more likely from the Irish Mob employed by Niall. “I think it is about time y’all leave,” Gerald said, looking at me.
“But, we are not done here.” the missing tooth man said
“I think you're meeting over, you can pick up your tab at the bar,” said, trying to get out of Gerald's arms as I held my throbbing jaw.“I can walk and take care of myself.”
“Sure, but I might like holding you,” Gerald said, with his cheeky smile.
“Yeah, I don’t think so,” I said, “Please Gerald.”
“Hmmm...No,” he said, carrying to the bar.
“Gerald! Put me-ow!” As I tried to get out of his hold I accidentally bumped my chin making the throbbing instance.
¨Oh, sorry Aria,¨ he said, sitting me down on the barstool.
¨Itś fine you didn't do anything,¨ I said.
¨No, itś not fine you just broke up a fight by getting hit! How many times have I said no, too!¨ Niall yelled, stomping over to me. Niall might be old but was scary when angry.
¨Ummm…,¨
¨You know what? This is why I don't get you to work on the floor! You will get into a fight and might get really hurt one day,¨ he said the last part soft her, showing his true age.
¨I'm sorry Niall, I… I didn't mean for you to worry,¨ I told Niall trying not to look into his worried green eyes.
¨Yeah, well you did make me worry. So Gerald will take you home.¨
“Heś what!¨
¨Iḿ what! Oh, I am!¨ A big smile grew over Gerald's face.
¨You are, and I won't be seeing you until next week,¨Niall said, turning around, a sign saying the conversation is over. ¨Bye doll sees you next week.¨
¨See you next week,¨ I said to Niall as I found Gerald out of the pub and to his cop car. Where then he took me to the other side of town where my rat hole apartment and a conversation asking why I still live here, and if Marco my dog was ok and all. Then he will watch me get out of them and stay there until I waved at him from my apartment window, and the last thing I do is say Iḿ too tired for this and decide I will take a shower in the morning, and falling asleep on the bed snuggled up next to my dog in my clothes not bothering to change.
