Vampire Bite

ACT ONE; SCENE NINETEEN

PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL

GIRL'S LOCKER ROOM

AKISE couldn't explain where SAKIKO went, she knew she went in with the boy, but the moment she walks in the gym they we're gone. With the bell ringing AKISE goes in the locker room, hoping SAKIKO was inside getting ready. But alas she wasn't, disappointed and annoyed AKISE starts changing into gym clothes. Being stuck with her thoughts, 'what if Sakiko breaks up with me for him?' AKISE shakes her head in frustration, wanting to quit the depressing thoughts. But she continues on, pairing the two together in her mind, they would be a cute normal looking couple. 'He would actually be able to give her a child too,' at this point AKISE smashes her head on the locker door. A couple girls beside her jump at the noise and stare at AKISE, but then quickly ignores her to leave with the swarm of other girls who are pushing to leave the room. SAKIKO walks in and moves herself through the sea of girls just as AKISE is leaving as well. Instead of waiting for her, AKISE goes out and stands around waiting for the P.E. teachers instructions. SAKIKO quickly gets dressed into their schools P.E. clothes, running out of the locker room in time to be called out for roll call. She stands right next to AKISE, who also stands there keeping her head forward. SAKIKO swivels her head to AKISE and flashes her a big smile, but the thought of not having SAKIKO still burns her mind. So without another thought, AKISE ignores SAKIKO'S gesture and continues on listening to the teacher. SAKIKO felt a twinge of disappointment in her heart but quickly let's it go, thinking AKISE didn't see her.

After P.E.

SAKIKO dress' in her clothes and rushes out the girl's locker room to catch up with AKISE. It's lunch time right now on the school grounds, and the girls walk to the cafeteria together.

SAKIKO: Hey Akise!

AKISE dips her head causing her blue fluffy hair to hide her face. And again just like P.E., AKISE ignores SAKIKO; 'what the hell?' SAKIKO thinks. AKISE starts picking up the pace, annoyed and frustrated SAKIKO struggles to keep up her long strides. Falling behind more and more until HIRO pops up in front of SAKIKO making her stop.

HIRO (holds a sandwich in front of SAKIKO) : You should try this sandwich I have, it tastes amazing!

Helplessly, SAKIKO looks behind HIRO and watches AKISE disappear in the lunch rush crowd. She looks back at HIRO and doesn't hide the annoyance on her face.

HIRO: Hey, come with me please?

He looks at SAKIKO with pleading eyes, and with a dramatic sigh, SAKIKO holds up her hand for him to lead the way. 'Since I'm obviously not eating lunch with Akise' SAKIKO thinks to herself. The thought depresses SAKIKO a bit but she hides it from HIRO, not wanting to talk about her feelings. They went outside in the bitter spring air, the sun shines bright but snow still covers the grass. HIRO led SAKIKO under a pine tree just outside the school, the ground underneath the tree makes a snowless circle of dead grass. Students walked past them every now and then but none cared to pay attention towards the two. Making the conversation oddly more private than it needs to be.

HIRO takes a couple steps forward towards SAKIKO, lowering his head to her.

HIRO (lowers voice) : Did Akise turn you?

SAKIKO takes a step back to properly look him in the eye, curiosity starting to grow.

HIRO: You know . . . A vampire.

SAKIKO (rolls her eyes) : I know what your talking about, but she wants me to enjoy my days as a mortal for now.

HIRO (looks at SAKIKO in confusion) : Oh, I thought you were a vampire (sniffs SAKIKOS head) well you definitely smell like one. Probably just from living with one for so long, oh (snaps his fingers) don't bleed near me then, ok? Since your not a vampire, I don't want to get all blood thirsty on you.

This time HIRO chuckles a bit at his own inside joke, but SAKIKO doesn't laugh along, instead she just slowly nods and thinks back to the janitors closet. 'Why would their 'boss' want Akise?' At that exact moment SAKIKO catches blue hair passing by them outside the building. AKISE hasn't realized they were there since she's too busy burrowing her nose in a book. Despite the annoyance with AKISE earlier, SAKIKO still feels excited to see her so she takes off running after her. HIRO watches her ignore him and take off after a familiar figure and instantly his mood took a dive for the dumps. AKISE hears someone running towards her, looking up from her book she gets a surprise attack from SAKIKO. And to make sure AKISE didn't run away again SAKIKO starts to unfold everything that's been on her mind since P.E.

SAKIKO: Hey you! What's wrong? Why are you avoiding me? You know, it really hurts me thinking you could be mad at me when I don't even know what I did wrong!

AKISE gets a sad and painful expression on her face, she opens her mouth to speak but HIRO had followed SAKIKO.

HIRO (Interjects and gets close to AKISE) : Why didn't you turn her yet? (Points at SAKIKO) Adrian is going to end up killing her, or worse! You know a lot of us go nuts around blood, especially the ones that know about us!

AKISE opens her mouth to talk back at HIRO but SAKIKO holds her hand up to silence her. Finally, SAKIKO comes to her breaking point.

SAKIKO: What the hell is going on?!

AKISE pinches the bridge of her nose, feeling the frustration coming on. Putting down her own paranoia for the mean time, AKISE concentrates on dealing with the problem.

AKISE (sighs) : To re-explain what this boy is going on about, people who know about our species, don't stay human. And it's either that, or be put to death. (Starts to become angry) And I didn't want to turn you because I didn't want you to lose your humanity. But I see this random guy here wants to turn you, so by all f*****g means, see if I care.

SAKIKOS expression turns to hurt, the weight of AKISES words hit home.

SAKIKO (voice cracks) But . . . I wanted you to turn me.

HIRO hides his happiness at the thought of turning SAKIKO himself.

HIRO: Well someone has to do it, Adrian says you've been procrastinating for too long. So, I'll do the honors.

Without a second thought HIRO starts to hover over SAKIKO, ready to transform her but SAKIKO wasn't ready. She tries her best to duck out of his grasps, but he uses compulsion to make her stand still. AKISE stood to the side and watches but grows uncomfortable, she did not like what she was seeing. SAKIKO darts her green eyes over to AKISE, all she saw was fear in them. The thought of SAKIKO being turned against her wishes just like AKISE, brought a sense of panic. Before HIRO could break the skin between SAKIKOS neck and his fangs, AKISE speaks up.

AKISE: No!

With her inhuman speed and strength she shoves HIRO off of SAKIKO, he stumbles off and AKISE shoves his head first into the building. Hindering him for the moment, she grabs SAKIKO'S hand.

AKISE: I'll do it OK? I'll do it!

AKISE starts to walk towards the schools gate, wanting to get as much distance between them and HIRO. 'Hiro', AKISE thinks angrily to herself. The thought of HIRO turning SAKIKO is unimaginable in AKISE'S mind, but she knew it wouldn't have a happy ending. Unconsciously AKISE squeezes hard on SAKIKO'S wrist as they got closer to the schools exit.

SAKIKO (cries out) : Akise stop your hurting me!

Finally SAKIKO rips herself out of AKISE'S grasp, AKISE spins around with a look of anger but quickly softens the moment she sees SAKIKO'S tears. SAKIKO held her wrist to her chest, looking like a wounded animal.

SAKIKO (frustrated) : What is going on with you today! Your acting like a big jerk!

Then everything from this afternoon starts to bubble up and out of AKISE.

AKISE (shouts back) : Look I'm jealous! OK? It's (AKISE takes a deep breath to calm her anger) just, I saw him try to grab at you and then I started to have these stupid thoughts. The two of you together made my blood boil, and it still does!

AKISE folds her arms aggressively and fumes, but she wasn't done and as she continues talking to SAKIKO her anger slowly diminishes.

AKISE (lowers voice) : I-I didn't want to turn you because . . . because I wanted to do it on a more special occasion.

SAKIKO looks on at AKISE, crooking her head to the side in confusion.

SAKIKO: Special . . . Occasion?

AKISE lowers her head now trying to hide the embarrassment on her face, she considers herself lucky everything in her body had died. Or else she would be suffering an even bigger embarrassment of having a blush break out across her face.

AKISE: The night we finally, um . . . make love to each other . . . because, I heard a rumor that if you get turned while your happy and full of life. Then you'll have a lifetime of happiness and luck on your side (mumbles) besides my miserable ass.

AKISE kept her head down but she didn't see the smile that's slowly forming on SAKIKO'S face, she comes up to AKISE and lifts her head. Looking at AKISE'S face she savors every inch of it, there wasn't an emotion AKISE can make and not look beautiful while making it. Despite the perfect complexion there is no mistaking or hiding the embarrassment, SAKIKO catches AKISE biting the inside of her cheek.

SAKIKO: You know, you look so cute when your embarrassed, but you shouldn't have to worry about me falling for Hiro. He's a push-over and not my type honestly. Plus (SAKIKO gets on the tip of her toes) I already have you, I don't need anybody else.

SAKIKO kisses AKISE'S lips softly and when AKISE didn't kiss back, SAKIKO went back down on to her feet and saw she still had the look of embarrassment.

SAKIKO (smiles and shakes head) : As for your turning idea, I like it, and when we're ready it'll happen, then we'll be able to protect each other forever.

AKISE finally looks up at SAKIKO and smiles lightly, feeling better from SAKIKO'S words. The bell rang signifying lunch is over and time to get back to class, AKISE nods her head towards the exit and SAKIKO just smiles and nods excitedly. Hand in hand they walk off from the school grounds and they walk home in silence. Despite what AKISE tells SAKIKO about school being important, they've skipped more days that should've made the school police show up at their door. But with AKISES powers, it wasn't hard to fool the schools faculty. Taking the back roads home again they came across the house with the white fluffy dog, SAKIKO runs up to the dog while AKISE tries to pull her back.

AKISE (snaps from worry) : Are you stupid or something? Have you not learned your lesson from last time?

SAKIKO twists and shimmies out of AKISE'S hold and comes up to the dog, the cute face that tempted SAKIKO last time looks up and snarls at her. Remembering her scent the dog snaps his jaws at her, wanting another bit at SAKIKO'S hand. So SAKIKO took the animal by the throat and in one fluid motion she snaps the fragile bone. When SAKIKO turns back around she met a surprised AKISE and coming back to her side she grabs her hand to keep walking.

SAKIKO: Let's just say if anyone were to try to turn me (SAKIKO looks behind her shoulder and back) they won't live to see another day because I refuse to let anyone else do it, except you.

SAKIKO leans her head on AKISE'S arm as they continue to hold hands and walk down the beaten dirt path. AKISE chuckles softly to herself and kisses the top of SAKIKO'S head, every now and then kicking trash and old needles to the side from their path. 'As much as I would like to experiment more with my dog theory, I have more important matters', SAKIKO thinks to herself. Looking up at AKISE her blue hair softly pushes back by the wind, wispy strands tickling her face causing her to scratch at it. 'Like you', closing her eyes, SAKIKO had AKISE lead her home, knowing full well she could have her lead and not trip on her own feet. They reach their house in no time, AKISE unlocks the door and SAKIKO rushes in going straight to the kitchen. Pulling from the cupboards brownie mix and cookie dough mix.

SAKIKO: Let's make some brownie cookies! My sweet tooth is going crazy!

SAKIKO starts to grab supplies for the brownie cookies and AKISE comes to help by grabbing higher up items that she couldn't reach. AKISE grabs the mixer as well and when she put it down SAKIKO saw AKISES hand shake a bit, she stopped what she's doing and took AKISES hand in hers.

SAKIKO: You need to feed, don't you?

AKISE smiles at SAKIKO, pulling her hand away she hands SAKIKO the mixing the bowl instead, SAKIKO takes the bowl.

AKISE: It's fine I'll go eat later.

SAKIKO drops the bowl making a loud clang in the kitchen.

SAKIKO (excited) : Let me help you hunt this time! I can help you clean up and everything so you won't get caught!

AKISE (rolls her eyes) : Um I've never been caught and that doesn't mean I'll start now. You make it sound like I don't know what I'm doing.

SAKIKO is bouncing up and down now in excitement, bringing out her big guns she gives AKISE puppy eyes and starts to beg to win her over.

SAKIKO: Pleeeaaase?

'Oh God, I knew this would happen one day', AKISE voices in her head, she knew she'd resent the day SAKIKO would finally ask to go with. SAKIKO isn't a vampire so she couldn't feed with AKISE, which means she'll sit there and watch her eat another persons life away. AKISE grew uncomfortable and decides to dodge the question, picking up the bowl AKISE rips up the brownie pack and dumps the powder in the bowl.

AKISE: Let's start making these brownie cookies OK? I'll think about it while we bake.

SAKIKO makes a sour face, not liking the fact she changed the subject on her as AKISE continues putting ingredients in the mix. Stirring up the now wet brownie batter, sulkily SAKIKO helps out with the next mix; the cookie dough. After the dough is prepped SAKIKO steals some bites out of the dough, glancing over her way she still has the same sulky face. AKISE sighs, disliking the way she makes that face, 'I'll have to go when she's in bed', AKISE decides. SAKIKO grabs a pan from the bottom cupboard, her mind no longer on the hunt, instead she wants to enjoy this baking experiment with AKISE. They place the cookie dough in first and then dump the brownie batter all around the cookie dough balls.

AKISE: How long should we let it bake for?

SAKIKO shrugs her shoulders, so AKISE puts the pan in the preheated oven and set a timer for 20 minutes.

AKISE: Want some lunch?

SAKIKO'S stomach grumbles a yes, together they laugh as AKISE grabs leftovers from the fridge and nukes it in the microwave. While AKISE cooks up the food SAKIKO goes to the living room to put on a movie - Saw. What could SAKIKO say, it's her favorite movie, she sat on the couch and waits for AKISE patiently. Without waiting long AKISE brings her plate of food over to her, she plated some food for herself as well and they both sat on the couch watching Saw for the millionth time. Despite the tasty food and movie SAKIKO'S heart wasn't in it, she felt hurt that AKISE didn't trust her enough to have her tag along. Looking over at AKISE, she sits and watches the movie, no matter how many times she's seen it AKISE was always enthralled with the movie. Although she did sleep or read a lot during the movie, SAKIKO wouldn't be surprised if this was truly her first time seeing it. Sighing SAKIKO plays with the rest of her food, no longer hungry, then it hits her, the smell, she lifts her head and smells the air.

SAKIKO: Is . . . something burning?

AKISE stops everything she's doing and rushes over to the oven, the timer didn't go off but the brownie cookie is burning, putting on an oven mitt AKISE takes it. The sides and bottom of the dessert were badly burnt to the point it wasn't edible and it came out into a blob of a mess. AKISE scrapes the brownie cookie into the trashcan as SAKIKO continues the movie without her, not caring about the dessert. AKISE cleans up the kitchen and starts washing dishes, looking up she saw SAKIKO laying on the couch but still seems bummed out. Seeing her be upset over this didn't sit right with AKISE, finishing the dishes she walks up to the T.V. and pauses the movie. SAKIKO sits up, a glimmer of hope in her eyes at what she's about to say, AKISE stares at her for a minute.

AKISE: You sure you wanna come hunting with me?

SAKIKOS eyes grow wide with excitement, her radiant smile widens as she sits and listens.

AKISE (groans and mumbles) : Can't believe I'm saying this, (goes back to normal) OK you can come, but, don't say I didn't warn you. We'll leave at midnight.
