Chapter 5

1193 Words
Evie After talking and him leaving, I tried to find a door lock so I could make a run for it, but there is nothing, I truly am trapped in his car until he comes back, I guess I might as well stay hidden and maybe when he comes back, I can escape. I take a quick peek out the passenger side window and notice that I'm surrounded by nothing but woods to my left, and turning to survey the area, I see a huge gothic looking mansion, grey stone masonry complete with the gargoyles and everything. It looks like something straight out of a Dracula movie. I shake my head. ‘He said he wouldn’t kill me. That’s laughable.’ Sighing, I settle back into the floorboard of the car, pulling my sweater over my legs, clutching my knees to my chest, I lay my head on them and wait for the inevitable. Without any way to tell how much time had passed I started counting the seconds, before I knew it my eyelids were getting heavy, and I began to drift off to sleep. When I wake up, I’m no longer in the car, but in a soft bed. I jumped up, afraid that what I did was just a dream. Gaining my bearings, I realize that this is not my room, the walls are a dark grey, the floors are a white and grey marble. There is a black fuzzy rug at the foot of the bed and on the wall facing the bed is a fireplace with a chair facing it. There are doors on both sides of the fireplace. There's a third door to the left side of the bed, on the adjacent wall. That one must be the exit of the room. Feeling brave, I go to the door that is to the left of the fireplace, turning the handle, I open the door and jump back. Peeking into the room I noticed it was just a bathroom. Releasing the breath that I was holding, I looked for a towel and then went back into the bedroom to find my duffle bag of clothes by the other door. Grabbing my bag, I ran into the bathroom and locked the door. Turning the water on hot, I get undressed and step in. The warm water feels so good on my skin until the spray hits the still healing wounds on my back. It's been so many years since I’ve taken a hot shower. My wicked mother always turned the water heater off, so I had to take ice cold showers. I wasn’t good enough for hot water. I stand there so long letting the hot water run over me, lost in my thoughts of how things were for me not so long ago. The water starts to turn cold when I snap back to reality, turning the water off I get out and dry off. I didn’t even wash myself, I just stood there. After drying myself off, I grab a pair of sweatpants, underwear, and a shirt. After I get dressed, I grab my brush from my bag, shoving my dirty clothes in while I’m at it. I stare at the mirror while I brush through my hair, dreading what is to come. Turning to leave the bathroom, I open the door to be greeted by the towering blonde whose car I tried to steal. He must be at least six foot seven, I feel like a dwarf compared in size. He isn’t wearing a shirt, so I can see his six pack and all the muscles that are rippling on his arms, threatening to rip his skin apart if they get any bigger. His blue eyes staring down at me, with a hunger in them I don’t understand. “Oh, uh... Sorry,” I squeak out, surprised to see him standing at the bathroom door. “Have a nice shower?” he asks in a gruff voice. “I didn’t really shower... I just stood in the water.” I blush adverting my eyes to the floor. I try to move past him, but he stays in the doorway, like a Greek statue. “We need to have a conversation about how you ended up in my car, little bunny.” he demands. I nod and gesture for him to lead the way. He leads me to the chair in front of the fireplace, motioning for me to sit as he stands by the hearth watching the fire lick at the logs while I situate myself in the chair, setting my duffle bag down to the left. “What do you want to know?” I ask, feeling uneasy about the quiet in the room while he pensively stares at the destruction the fire is causing the wood logs, he must have started it while I was in the shower. “First, why are you traveling with a duffle bag, and how did you end up in the back floorboard of my car?” his eyes never leave the fireplace as he speaks. “Well, I told you my mother was going to sell me as repayment on a debt she has with some guy, I couldn’t let that happen. So, when she left with my sister to go have dinner with a possible suitor, I snuck out of my house, through a secret door I found one day.” I try to keep my voice even as I talk so he doesn’t decipher the fact that I left some things out. “I ran into the woods that surround most of the town so I couldn’t be seen, and headed towards the busy part of town, I seen you’re Urus and honestly it looked older and like it would be easy for me to hide in. Well, I was looking for an older car to steal, not that I’m proud of that, but I needed to get away and quickly but, when I had found the keys to steal it, I seen you headed straight towards me. I panicked and got into the back floorboard hoping you wouldn’t notice me. You left your doors unlocked.” I began to whisper at some point and didn’t even notice until his attention was fully on me. “You had planned to steal my car?” he chuckled at his own rhetorical question, with a nod I continued. “My mom and the man collecting the debt are probably looking for me by now, I’m not sure how long I have been gone, but I need to keep moving the more distance I put between me and them, the better.” I state with pure conviction hoping he would honor his words from before and take me anywhere I wanted to go. “Oh, he is looking, but he has tasked others with your collection, you’re his golden prize who has to be handled with care.” As he speaks these words, my entire world comes crashing down, his now cold gaze gravitates back to the fire as it crackles and blazes through the logs. He knows the guy.
