The Talk

  Brent takes my hand when we step out onto the deck off the back of the house. I had been going over in my head what it was I'd wanted to say. The words were there, but I wasn't sure how I would get them to move off my tongue and out into the air between us without crying. So I remained silent, hoping that he would start to speak first. He didn't. Instead, he leads me off towards the woods in silence. It was crazy to me how time worked. It felt as though it had been months. Today felt already like it had been an entire week, and yet here we were with it barely being past one in the afternoon. Forget about knowing what day it was; they all seemed to be melting together.
