The rest of the day went really uneventful. I spent most of my day at the assembly, then at cheer practice, and finally when all was said and done I was heading back to the dorms. Practice went off without a hitch and it seemed like Rebecca was harder on some of the other girls than she was on me. In my new dorm room, all of my things were already put away neatly and there still was no new roommate. Just after I had settled in a pair of my standard pajamas=------- there was a knock at the door. I went to the door quickly and found the hall mother standing on the other side.
"Hi, Miss Price. Is there something that I can help you with?" I was confused why she had come to my room at 7 at night.
"Oh. honey it's nothing. I just wanted to let you know that your roommate dropped from the school so at least for now, you won't have a roommate. That might change if we get a transfer student." She explained to me.
"Oh. Thank you for letting me know. I was starting to worry."
"Nothing to worry about, dear. I also wanted to drop off your welcome basket. Good luck this term! If you need anything, you know where to find me." I nodded to her. She was always a sweet lady and not too old like some of the other dorms had. I found that the older the hall mother was, the stricter they were. The hall mother lived in a suite on the floor between the male side and the female side of any given floor. She was there in case we needed something and to make sure that we were listening to all of the rules.
After she left, I laid on my bed and picked up the tv remote to flip through the channels. I decided to skip dinner tonight because I wasn't all that hungry and to be frank, I didn't want to run into HIM. I couldn't place my finger on what made me so nervous around him, I could only blame that on my lack of experience. Just as I was drifting asleep, there was another knock at the door. I stood up groggily and fixed my shorts and tank top before answering the door.
"Uh, Max. What are you doing here?" I asked still somewhat sleepy and a part of me was concerned that there might be something wrong.
He stared at me from his side of the door for a good while before he smirked at me. "You weren't at dinner."
I nodded. "You are correct."
"So I figured you might be hungry. I brought Chinese." He lifted up the bag to show me what he brought.
I smiled. "Come in." I opened the door further for him to come in. "Sorry that I look like this... I was just watching tv and I didn't expect anyone."
He nodded at me and came through the door. "No roommate? Man, how did you get that lucky?!" He joked.
I shut the door behind him and sat on the edge of my bed. "Oh she just didn't show up, Miss Price said she dropped before school started so I'd have a room to myself for now. At least until someone transfers in." I knew that meant that I probably wouldn't have a roommate for some time unless one of the other rooming arrangements didn't work out. I figured that gave me at least a month to myself. "So I just put some spare sheets on there in case someone needs a place to crash..." My guess would be that it would be one of the girls on the squad after a night of drinking.
He took his time but sat on the other bed. We both began to eat. "Thank you again for this. I didn't really think I was all that hungry." I noticed that he wasn't eating. "Aren't you hungry?"
Max grinned at me. "Oh I'm starving. Just not for food." He winked at me and I wasn't sure why but my cheeks flushed a bright red. He cleared his throat. "So you're coming to the party tonight, right?" I knew that there was a party tonight but that wasn't really my scene and living on campus that meant that the other kids would be drinking under the bleechers at school or maybe they would sneak off campus to the woods that surrounded the school.
I hesitated. "I wasn't really planning on it but..." just then my phone went off with a text in our group chat with the squad.
Rebecca: Hey ladies! You all better be there tonight. In the woods at ten! Don't let me down.
I groaned. "Well I guess I have to be there now. Rebecca just sent me a message."
"So what made you join the squad this year?" He asked curiously.
"It'll look good on my school applications. Since I'm a junior I figured I could get two years in cheer and that would be good." I shrugged. Everything my entire life was to breed me to go to college. Neither of my parents had gone and if I wanted to get into a good school I knew that I was going to have to get a full scholarship. My heart was set on Harvard. That meant I really would need to get good grades.
He chuckled. " I figured it had to be something."
There was a bit of silence while Max flipped through the channels on the tv and I finished eating. He looked up at me. "Why don't you go get ready and I'll meet you at the clock tower again?" He offered. "That way you aren't walking far alone."
I nodded to him, "Thanks. I appreciate that." f**k. I had no idea what I was going to wear to this party. Next thing I knew he was up and leaving,. I had an hour to get ready. Keeping my timeframe in mind, I ran into the showers and came back to get ready. I had absolutely no clue what I was going to wear but I'd knew that it was expected that I'd wear skin tight jeans or a dress. It was still kind of chilly out from all the rain that we had this week so far, so I went with the jeans. I wore a pair of faded skin tight blue jeans and a bodysuit that had a solid top in the shape of a tank top and lace arms. It was an emerald green which always looked flattering on me. I then slipped into a pair of green heels that matched.
So clothes were completed. Now I had to work on my hair and makeup. I straightened my messy curls and applied the makeup. I didn't really wear a lot of makeup just foundation, a little eyeshadow and lipgloss. Once I was ready, I grabbed my phone and shoved it in my back pocket to head to the Clock Tower. He wasn't there when I got there and it turned out that after about 20 minutes, I left without him. I was slightly hurt that he didn't keep his promise but my assumption is that he had that planned all along.
I was going to kill him.
I looked around at the party when I got there. That was when I saw some of the girls from cheer. There was Stephanie, Michelle, Tiffany, and Sara all there chatting. They must have spotted me at the same time so they waved me over.
"Hey girls." I smiled at them.
"Hey, Missy. We were just talking about Maxwell. He showed up with a new girl! Look." They pointed him out with a girl who had black hair and blue eyes. She was tall and beautiful. Almost the exact opposite of myself. I wanted to scream.
"Oh. That's... nice" I offered them. Moments later cups of alcohol were being passed around. I grabbed one. I didn't really drink but I needed something to keep myself occupied so I didn't stand there staring at him all night. Especially not now. I shrugged at them. "At least this one looks like she knows the alphabet." That brought a loud laugh from all of them.
I shrugged again. "Let's drink?" They all laughed at me and we went for another drink. About 4 cups of Jungle Juice in and I was ready to go. "Hey ladies, I'm actually pretty tired. See you tomorrow?" They all waved me off and that was about the time that Max saw me leaving as well. "Hey. Where are you going?" He asked a little demanding.
"Back to my room."
"Why? Aren't you having fun?"
I nodded. "I was until I saw you sucking the soul out of hoodrat over there." I pointed to where the girl was still sitting waitng for him to come back. He shook his head. "Whatever. Have fun." I told him and started to walk again. "Enjoy your night, Asshole."
