At the party there were people standing around in groups, there were some people who were sitting on logs that seemed to have already been there on purpose and then there were people that were just sitting in small circles on the cold, slightly wet ground. For awhile I walked around and finally found a log to sit on. My roommate from last year showed up and sat down next to me. "Hey, Danielle, are you lost?" She asked me with a grin.
I shook my head no. " I wish but somehow this became mandatory." I gestured my hand around and we discussed about how I had joined the cheer squad and her eyes went large. She couldn't believe that I was now a cheerleader. I could see that she wanted to say something more but that was when some of the girls from the squad and my brother along with all of his friends sat down.
Apparently it was now cool to be seen with me since I wasn't entirely a lost case. There were actually a couple of people with them that I didn't know. Damon looked at me and grinned as he put an arm around Rebecca.
"Eww. Damon! Watch my hair!" She squealed.
I had to roll my eyes and then there cam Max walking up with what I assumed was the reason that he didn't make it to the Clock Tower when he told me to meet him was hanging all over him. I vaguely heard other people calling her Angel. I ignored them completely. In the background, I vaguely heard my brother and his friends talking in the background when Matt, a friend of mine from my classes last year and this year, sat down next to me.
"Hey, Cuppie." He grinned and handed me a cup with something fruity yet oddly strong in it.
I groaned. "Oh come on. One time. One time and you'll never let me live that down. Ever.
He laughed and shook his head. "Never."
That was when I guess my name had been called by my brother a few times that I didn't hear before until he practically yelled. "HELLLLLLOOOO DANNNIIII..." I heard him that time. I shook my head and rolled my eyes at him. "Yes, dork?" But I smiled sweetly at him.
"You wanna play or not?" He asked a little impatient. "And who is this friend of yours?"
I didn't even know what they were playing but I shrugged and immediately agreed. "Sure. What are we playing?" The group laughed and grinned.
That's when Rebecca piped up! "See.. I knew I'd like your sister!" She grinned at me. "Umm so truth or dare this time. And her friend...do you wanna play?" I looked to Matt and pleaded with my eyes at him. " Yeah, we'll play. But just for a bit. We umm.. have other plans tonight too." Rebecca grinned at me and winked. That was when my phone went off with a text from Max.
Max: Go home.
I texted him back quickly. ME: Get bent, d**k.
Max: Seriously. This isn't a game for you...not how they play.
Matt leaned over and whispered in my ear. "Let's go for a walk." A large smile crept on my face and I finished the rest of my cup. I don't know what it was about him but Matt knew when I was uncomfortable and I wanted an escape. I stood up and looked to my brother and Rebecca. "I'll have to take a raincheck. We um... actually have plans and I didn't realize the time. Next time, I promise." I smiled at her and when I briefly looked over at Max, he looked beyond angry. That's when I turned to Matt and linked my arm with his. "Ready?" I grinned.
The further we walked away from the group back there, the happier I was. It wasn't that I didn't like my brother's friends but Max had ruined the whole night for me. There was nothing good about a boy who said he was going to do something and then dropped you for the first pair of panties that dropped. I guess it was about an hour after I left the party with Matt that my phone kept buzzing.
Max: Where are you?
Max: Why did you leave?
Max: Where did you go with him?
Max: Come on, Kitten...
I set my phone on my nightstand and rolled over. After the party, Matt and I went for ice cream and then I went back to my room. We didn't honestly have plans but we made them. Anything to get away from everything that was going on back at that party. I couldn't stand the back and forth with Max. It was best that I forgot him. It wasn't like we had grand love affair anyways, he kissed me once. I'm sure he had kissed lots of girls once and the way that he was all over Angel or whatever her real name was, just proved that a kiss was sometimes just a kiss, especially by someone as sleezy as him.
Lesson learned.
My eyes fluttered shut and I was about a sleep when my phone was ringing. I didn't bother to look at who was calling and just answered.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Where are you, Danielle?"
I groaned it was Max.
"Do you realize what time it is, Max?"
He sounded huffy. "That's not what I asked."
I huffed right back. "I'm in my bed like any normal person would be."
"Unlock the door, I'll be there in ten minutes."
"Sure you will. Just like you told me to meet you by the Clock Tower." I snapped back at him.
"I.. Just.. unlock the door, Danielle."
"Goodbye, Maxwell. Tell Angel I said hi." I finally hung up the phone.
As soon as I hung up the phone, I unlocked the door and laid down quickly. Just in case.
