Running up the muddy path towards the house I am energized by the fear of what just happened on the beach. I have never had lightning strike so close to me before. When the house is in sight, I catch the vision of movement at the entrance of the barn and begin running towards the source. As I get nearer, I realize it's Katie struggling to get Ana into the barn. Screaming over the thunder, rain, and wind I call out to Katie “Did you get all of the animals” She continues pulling on the rope tied around Ana’s neck as I try soothing Ana into the barn by petting her and encouraging her towards the barn door. “Ana is the last one that I could find.” She says as she crosses the barrier from outside to the inside of the barn.
