The Other Alpha

It is Shin’s 18th birthday. Today he will finally find out who will be his mate. It is one of his great desire to find his mate, get marry and carry on with life outside the pack house. With that he will be able to finally get out of his father’s grasp. A tie that holds his neck for years. As the second son of the Alpha, he is destined to be the second in command of his big brother Ginji. It was a destiny he would be please to accept, if only the next Alpha was someone else. For his big brother is more on an ass than a leader. Being the Alpha’s son doesn’t serve him much, if he might have chosen he would probably be a commoner. Shin is not your typical shifter, aside from the fact that they prevent him from training and shifting, he also loves reading and studying history, plus he enjoys star gazing as a hobby. But in the world of wolves, stars are believed to be with the dark magic, along with witchcraft and sorcery. But for the young Shin, he didn’t see them as anything powerful, but he sees them as his guide. He grows up without a mother on his side, thus he made the stars his guide, he believes that his mom is somewhere on the outside world looking at the same star. Quiet sentimental yes, but it was mainly because he feel lost and indifference, he has the feeling that everybody in the clan is hiding something from him. “Your royal Rex, the Alpha is looking for you.” It was Liza who called him. She was fond of calling him Rex for an unknown reason. It’s far from his real name, and was not meant to be his nickname either. While he already asked her reason, so many times the slave refuses to give him an answer. Liza is a nice slave that he even thought of freeing him one time. She has a beautiful eye, which says she’s a good person. But stories say’s that her parents are traitor, it was a reason nobody discuss or talks about, and hence he never knew what made her deserve her fate. But his father has a bad blood on her, it shows every time he saw her. Today, Shin is wearing his normal black denim pants paired with a dark blue shirt, and a color black running shoes. His long, dark brown hair is tied in a low pony. Before he went out, he had glance for the last time in the mirror; he made sure his thick brows are set right. And that his teeth as are white as possible. He is on the pack house, the house where the Alpha and his family reside, it’s a huge house made of wood. Today the pack house smells different; the aroma of the roasted meat envelops the house like perfume. He walks to his dad’s office, there he saw Ginji, his big brother grinning on him like he has something on the inside of his brain again, something evil. The Alpha is the tallest man in the room, but Ginji has the biggest body built, and Shin, he has a nice fit masculine body, but his nothing compare to the two. He greeted his father and brother with outmost respect, the Alpha showed him the sit in front of him, ordering him to sit down. Ginji left the room, still grinning. “So it’s your birthday, have you found your mate yet?” Alpha Rei asked him. He didn’t hide the intrigue in his voice, in fact, his right eyebrow is lifted. “Not yet father. I haven’t gone out of the pa---“ “Alright, never mind. You know I’m just asking. I called you because you’re already 18, and as you know this is one of the important phases a wolf will undergo.” “Yes father.” Shin fell like his father is about to ask him something again, something big that is hard to give. “We prepare a ceremony for you. I called every member of the pack, even those who are out of the village studying, are called. You need to look for your mate.” He stares at Shin, maintaining eye contact. “I will father.” Shin answered. “Do remember that your mate needs to be someone from a prominent family, in any case that you found your mate as a low member of the clan, reject her like what your brother did.” The tune of the Alpha changed, it became heavy and serious. Shin knew this is about to happen, thus he wished to find his mate and hope that she is from a good family. “I am very much aware of that Alpha. Reassured that your will be done.” He stands up and bows. Calling his father as Alpha sealed the conversation; it’s like a contract or a promise to the heaven. He already prepared himself to this day, and he knew that he couldn’t disobey his father’s will. As he walks on the aisle going to the stair, he saw his brother leaning on the wall, as if waiting for him. He recognized him, but he refuse to look at him for he doesn't want to ruin his own birthday. “Are you blind?” Ginji boldly asked. “No big brother, my mind is somewhere else. I didn’t notice you. I'm sorry.” He answered, an answer Ginji wants to hear. That he is thinking and can't concentrate. “Can’t blame you there, but you know what I don’t think you really have to worry about that. Girls, mate, they are threat to our kind. Look at father, he send’s off the Luna because she’s weak.” Ginji knows that he will be triggered. He closes his fist and inhale deep. There’s no good in fighting him today, after all, his not his priority but to look for his mate. “I’m afraid I don’t have time for this, father asked me to do something for him. I better hurry.” That was one of the line he memorized the other night, he knew this will happen. He was with these two men in the last 18 years of his life that he knew very well that they will try to ruin his day. Shin knew that Ginji will let him go once he heard that his father fetch him for something. Going down the stair he saw from the peripheral of his vision Liza, she is carrying two bucket of water; he noticed that she was having hard time carrying the bucket, and that some of it already spill on the floor. There are four male wolves siting in the living room that didn’t even bother to help her. So he walks towards Liza to help her. “Oh no! Sire, I rather do this than to bother you on your day.” She said politely. Shin didn’t answer he continue getting the bucket and carry it outside the house. It was a lovely sunny day; the sun kissed his rosy white skin. The village is busy, people are coming in, most of which he haven’t saw for years. It is like as what his father says. Shin roam around to try to see if he’ll find his mate. But he can’t feel anything. They said that you will know your mate by how you feel, and how they smell, plus your inner wolf will also tell you. Shins wolf is hidden in him, he do not let it surface for fear that the people around him will notice the difference. Plus his father do not allow him to train, he don’t want him to be stronger than Ginji who will be the next Alpha. Shin wasn’t able to comprehend this, he is the first born and naturally he will be the next Alpha, so what’s the need of suppressing him? He was greeted a happy birthday by several shewolve’s, many of them tries to flirt, maybe they’re trying to check if he will react, but none of them made his heart flutter. Shin feel devastated so he went back to his room, then he realized that the time of his birth might have something to do with it, technically he isn't 18 yet. It will be a few minutes from now before he officialy turn 18. There was a knock on the door. “Sire, the buffet will start.” It was Liza again who called for him. “I don’t feel like going out.” He answered. “You know you can’t Rex, plus the Alpha and the clan members are waiting for you.” She’s right; his father won’t allow his absence, so he does not have a chance to escape. He walks out of his room heading to the lawn, when he smells a sweet vanilla scent. He turns around and found Liza who was walking behind him. “Do you know what’s for dessert?” He asked. “It’s egg pie in caramel and vanilla extract.” She answered. After hearing this he continue walking outside. But the scent didn’t wear off, and it’s becoming stronger, he has desire from his pit that made him look for the source of the smell. He found a bunch of girls surrounding none other than his brother, he tried to sneak in to check what they have, but instead of finding a sweet food. He found Jenica. On his ear he heard the word ‘mate’ it echo’s again and again. It was on that time he knew he needs to get out there.
