Episode 1
Chapter 1
Yanka was surprised when the door of her office swung opened. Agnes, the resort manager, first appeared in the doorway, followed by the woman, and the man. She was confused when she noticed the familiar man. Her body frozed. Wanted to speak but didn't know the proper words to say. Her heart beat faster than ussual.
''Yes? What is it?'' Finally she managed to speak to Agnes, but before agnes opened her mouth to explain what's going on, the man arogantly said, ''My son is missing!''
Speechless and confused, Yanka, still didn't know what to say.
With her two naked eyes, she saw the woman, turned back, took a few steps backward and held his arm......Lewis' arm!
Yes! She knew his name!
She knew him! She was once knew him!
''Lewis....'' the woman's said. Gently pulled his arm to remind him to calm down. Lewis was so upset for his child's disappearance. The woman was afraid for he might be explode with anger.
A few hours ago when they noticed their son was missing and started asking around, included the staff of the resort, but no one saw their son. That's why they decided to talk directly to the owner.
Lewis stood still, his eyes rested to Yanka. He was surprised to see her after more than a decade.
''Yanka, they are our guests in room 8. They are looking for their son,'' Agnes explained.
''We're really afraid for my son. He's been missing for almost three hours,'' the woman said to Yanka, her voice slightly shaking.
Yanka learned that their son, went out of their room early this morning, to play on the seashore, together with Patricia, his teenage nanny. An hour later, Patricia went back with horrible expression on her face. Nervously and slowly she managed to tell what happened. According to her, they were playing sand castle, when she noticed Carl went gone. She tried to find him and ask a few people nearby, but they didn't notice the kid. When she couldn't find Carl, that's the time she informed the parents. They asked help from the staff of resort to search for Carl. But no Carl was found.
''Ma'am I'm really sorry for this.
I promise to do our best just to find your son,'' answered Yanka. Her eyes tried to avoid Lewis as long as she could. Distracted with his presence, she preferred to speak with the woman, his wife.
Yanka continued in a calm and polite way. ''I think it's better for you to get a rest. We will ask help from the local authorities, and I will inform you the moment we get an update.''
She's really fond of the kids. Have been teaching kids for many years. Actually she spend most of her time with kids than with the friends.
Undeniably, she also felt worried about her resort.
What if something happened to the child?
It might be ordered to close by the authorities.
And there's more, the man she tried to avoid for many years, is the father of the missing kid!
She couldn't believe it, after those many years, here he is, standing in front of her, with his accusing eyes that reminds her, those rancorous memories of the past.
''Get a rest?'' he said in sarcasm. ''Do you think we can have a rest, while our son is missing?'' Lewis continued, exploded with wrath. ''Make sure there's nothing happened to him!'' threatened him. He threw a dreadful sight to Yanka before he left, followed by the woman.
Agnes left with Yanka, really felt the tension. Pity her, for the unpleasant behavior of the man. They are the parents, they were supposed to be blamed for their negligence! Not Yanka! Not even the resort! She really wanted to say these to him, but she couldn't, for it may aggrevate the situation.
They have to be professional in dealing with this kind of guest, instead. And maybe they need to understand. It's normal for the parents to feel that way.
''Yanka, I'm sorry. I didn't expect this,'' she said apologetically. ''Don't worry, the kid will be find soon, and he'll be okay. '' She squeezed her hands with sympathy. ''You're here to unwind. Don't stress yourself too much. I will handle this.'' As if she was talking to a kid. Agnes was Yanka's cousin. She let her manage the resort since it was built. Sometimes Yanka visit the resort to take some fresh air, to esape from crowded and pollution.
Yanka just nodded. A noticeable gleam in her eyes warned. Agnes didn't know how she felt. She didn't even know Lewis.
Before Agnes went out, she asked Yanka if she wanted something to eat or to drink, but Yanka refused.
Agnes was right! She badly needed rest. She trusted her with the resort, ever since. And besides, still, not yet ready to speak with Lewis....she wanted to gain strength.
Thankful and contented for her abundant blessings. For the woman came from nothing, this is more than she had asked for. But why, in a sudden and unexpected appearance of Lewis, the pain, bitternes and anger came back.
Once again, the wound from the past refreshed in her heart.
The anger in Lewis gaze, threw into her before leaving, was still in her mind.
Accusing....treathening.
She wanted to dissappear in front of him together with the pain in her heart. Thank God she managed to compose herself.
Probably, distracted by the presence of Lewis's. She vaguely noticed his wife's physical appearance. She's taller than Yanka, with thin and pale face. She looked ill. Maybe, because she was anxious of what had happened to the kid. If she was not mistaken, the woman looked older than him.
She never forget the time she had confronted Lewis about the rumour....about the girl got pregnant, by him....
''Yanka, I'm sorry.... I didn't mean to hurt you!'' Lewis didn't directly answered the question. ''I made a big mistake! Promise I'm gonna fix this''.
She didn't get a clear response from him but for Yanka, it's a confirmation.....
Abruptly, feel the pain in her chest. As if being stabbed in gazillion times, untill it broke into smaller fragments. Her body freezed.....paralyzed. Her mind went blank. She couldn't understand some of the words he said.
That was the last time she saw him. Without asking any explanation and without any words, she decided to let him go....to set him free.....for the sake of the child.
She shook her head, tried pushing it out from her mind. Ah...whatever happened.....she made the best decision, without any regret. She did those things for everyone's peace of mind.
Her mind was occupied of many things when her phone rang. It's Agnes!
''It's about the missing kid,'' Agnes started the conversation.''The slippers of the kid found by Leo next to the bushes, at the back part of the resort.''
As Agnes reported, her voice shivered. A sign of fear. Leo was one of the roomboys. According to Agnes, the parents of the kid identified their son's slippers.
