CHAPTER 8 A Miracle

646 Words
Selena waited at the kitchen table when Elara came home from her shift at the diner looking worse than ever, she had sandwiches already prepared for them. “Hey, how was work?” “A joyride, like every day.” They both chuckled at Elara answer. “The manager only tried to grab my butt once today. So it was a good day.” Elara placed herself exhaustedly on the chair next to her. “I made us sandwiches. Also, I have some good news.” “Really?” “I found a way to see Olivia’s brother again so I can reject him and be done with this problem.” Elara looked at her with an utterly sad face. “I’m so sorry for you, Seli.” “Why?” Selena tried to pretend that it didn’t bother her that she was about to reject her mate. “I really hoped for you to meet a wonderful man one day who would sweep you of your feet. The one who would make you feel at home. The one who would stick with you through everything.” Elara’s face stared at the distance, it seemed like she watched a film of memories. “How was it with you and Alex?” Elara had to smile immediately when she heard that question. “He was a dream. Always smiling. But you know that. And the confidence he had. He knew exactly what he wanted and when he met me, I was what he wanted, and I wanted him. I met him at the lake outside the woods on the northside. You remember? It was a hot day. I spent the whole day the with Christina and Anni. The whole time I had the most beautiful smell tingling my nose. It smelled like forest, winter and sunshine. I don’t know how else to describe it. Then when I went into the water to cool myself, that’s where I saw him. The sun was glittering on the water and shone on his face. He looked so unearthly handsome.” Elara’s eyes sparkled and then a tear ran down her cheek. She wiped it off with her hand, looked at Selena and smiled. “When he finally saw me, he had the biggest most beautiful smirk on his face. I just had to smile back. We just stayed like this in the water, staring and smiling at each other. Then finally he swam over to me, still not saying a single word. He just kissed me. It felt like I had never been kissed before. This experience was on another level. And because he was my mate, it would be like this for the rest of our lives together. I didn’t want him to stop. You just cannot imagine the sparkles, every single time we touched each other. Then after a while he stopped kissing me and looked at me, just saying ‘you will come home with me for dinner tonight’. That was him. He didn’t even know my name yet.” For a brief moment both of them felt as if Elara’s mate was with them again, and they stayed quiet too scared to lose this feeling. Elara suddenly put up her hand to cover her mouth, she got up and ran to the bathroom. Selena just heard her throwing up. The moment was gone. When Elara came back, Selena looked at her full of sorrows. “Maybe you should see a doctor?” “That won’t be necessary.” Selena was surprised. “Why not?” “I already know I’m pregnant.” Elara looked up from her untouched sandwich into Selena’s baffled face. For a moment there was silence. Then Selena sprung up to hug her. “No way. This is amazing. Unbelievable. How long did you know already? “They both chuckled. “Not long. I know, it’s a miracle. I have something left of Alex.” Elara touched her belly and smiled. For the first time in a very long time they felt something they thought they had lost forever. It was hope.
