“Seth. Kayne is willing to take on responsibility for the baby. He is Bria's husband, he will raise the child with her. However... there's a problem. I understand Makayla is pregnant as well. Your first born son will become Beta for Earth Moon regardless of where he is born. If Makayla gives birth to a boy first, or Bria has a girl, then there won't be any problem with passing the baby off as Kayne's. He can initiate the baby into Fire Moon and no one will know the difference. But, if Bria has your first son, whether it be that she gives birth before Makayla or Makayla has a girl, Bria's boy will be Earth Moon's Beta. That means once he is old enough, you would be responsible for training him as Beta.” Ben explained calmly.
“Yes. I'm willing to do all of the raising. I will treat the baby as my own, just like I treat Luka. I can't take your place, though, in raising your pack's next Beta, Seth.” Kayne said.
“Bria, you have to get rid of the baby. You're still early. You and Kayne can just try again right away. Makayla will birth my first son.” Seth said.
“She has made her mind up on the baby and we will mention no more about any other option.” Kayne said. Kayne grabbed my hand, reassuring me.
“You like to make a habit of ruining my life, don't you?” Seth asked me.
“No. We were taking the only precaution we could. I didn't want this to happen either.” I started saying.
“You will not disrespect my wife like that on my pack lands.” Kayne barked, standing.
“Nor my sister.” Ben said.
“I apologize, Alpha.” Seth said. “Bria, I need time to process this and speak with my wife. We will work out a schedule for each scenario.”
Everyone left except for Cameron and James.
“Crystal had our son before she met me.” James spoke up. As the Delta, I didn't see him quite as much as I did Cameron, but Crystal, his wife, had been kind to me and helped me a lot when Luka was smaller.
“She did?” We all asked.
“She did. She got pregnant by a human when she was seventeen. When we found each other as mates, she had the cutest tiny baby. He doesn't even know I'm not his father. I didn't consider that it will be difficult to explain to him why his younger brother gets the Delta position and not him.” James said.
“We can have the conversation when he's older.” Kayne assured him. “He's half-human?”
“Yes, half-human.”
“Can he shift?”
“No. The way I understand it, if a half-wolf, half-human is born to a wolf father and human mother, they can shift. Male wolf genes are more prominent. Of course, the risk is losing the mother. I apologize, Alpha.” James said, referring to bringing up a conversation about how Kayne's mate had died. “If they are born to a wolf mother and human father, they can't shift.”
“Interesting.” Kayne said.
“It is.” Cameron and I agreed.
“It doesn't bother you that he isn't yours?” I asked.
“No. I never think much of it. He's my boy, I love him like I love the rest.” He said.
We were interrupted by a group of warriors bursting in the door.
“Alpha – Air moon has warriors at our perimeter.” One of the boys said. “Spirit Moon as well. It looks like they've allied together. I'm not sure why, but they've been scouting us all day. No contact made.”
“We need to go.” Kayne said. Cameron and James nodded and they all started conversing with the warriors. “Bria, stay inside. You don't leave the house, do you understand? I'm leaving two warriors here to guard.”
“Kayne!” I yelled.
“What?”
“Luka!”
“He's safe. I promise you, nothing will happen to him while I'm still breathing.” Kayne assured.
“We'll send warriors with Crystal and Brin to take him to your mother in Earth Moon.” James suggested.
“Here.” I said, running to the fridge and throwing breastmilk in a cooler. “He needs his milk.”
They took the cooler and they left. I panicked and I worried for my son. I messaged my mom to tell me the moment she had him in her arms.
I paced for twenty minutes before I heard a crash. I was terrified and started running to the stairs.
I felt an arm around my waist.
“Sorry to have to grab ya like this, princess.” A gruff voice said behind me. His arm became painful.
“Please, I'm pregnant. Be careful, don't hurt my baby.” I pleaded.
“You and the baby will be safe. Here.” He held his hand up to my face and I fell asleep.
