I woke up and checked my phone. I realized the date. It had been three weeks since that night, and I was supposed to have gotten my period a week ago. Time had flown, and I had chalked the slight queasiness in the morning up to PMS.
Kayne and I hadn't had s*x again, but we were a lot more physical with affection now. We bonded over the fact that we felt unfaithful to our “lost” lovers. He hadn't been with anyone at all since his mate had died, and I had never expected to be with anyone other than Seth. We had kissed and cuddled, but still slept separately. It was more pleasant now that we had a better understanding of each other. I hadn't grasped why he was allowing me a chance to still be with Seth, even if it was limited. After our many talks that had occurred, I realized he was sympathetic to being separated from your true love and didn't want that for me.
Kayne was in his meeting room and I knocked on the door. He called for me to come in.
“Hello, are you alright?” He said.
“I'm not bleeding.” I said. I suddenly was feeling apprehensive about being pregnant now.
“Why would you be bleeding?” He asked and began inspecting me for injury.
“No. My blood. It's late. I'm not bleeding. It should have been here a week ago.” I explained quietly, embarrassed almost to be speaking about something so personal.
“Oh. I didn't realize how long it had been. Would you like me to go pick up a pregnancy test?” He asked, looking up from the papers he was writing on previously.
“Would you?”
“Absolutely. I'll be back shortly.”
“I'm nauseous.”
“I'll make you a cup of tea first.”
I followed him to the kitchen where he set me up on the couch with a blanket. He brought me a cup of mint tea and some crackers, promising that would help settle my stomach. I zoned out to a TV show while he was gone, finding he was write about this remedy for nausea.
He returned and handed me a back with a few tests in it.
“I'll be in the meeting room when you're ready.” He said. I nodded and went to the closest bathroom. I grabbed a small disposable cup from the dispenser and peed in it, using the dropper to put three drops onto the test as instructed. I disposed of everything and carried the test downstairs to the meeting room. Kayne's head popped up with excitement.
“Will you wait with me? For the results?” I asked sheepishly.
“Of course. Sit.” He said. He moved a chair close to his and I handed him the test with shaky hands. He set a piece of paper over it so we didn't stare at the results while we waited. After the full three minutes were up, he asked, “Are you ready?”
“No.”
“Let's look.” He said. He moved the paper and we stared down at the test with two clear lines. “You're pregnant.” He gasped. He reached over to place a hand on my stomach, which was not showing any signs of life that was apparently growing inside.
“I can't believe it.” I said.
“It's been three weeks... only six to go.” He said. Wolf pregnancies were only nine weeks.

The next morning I woke vomiting. The baby was working against me in full force, it seemed. Kayne came quickly into the room and began holding my hair and rubbing my back as I wretched into the bathtub.
“Okay, love, take it easy. Get back up in bed, I'll bring up something to help.” He said. He went downstairs and quickly returned with ice water and toast, and a bucket. He set the bucket next to the bed and I nibbled the toast while sipping the water. I started to feel slightly better.
Kayne had combat practice and left, telling me to call for him if I needed anything. I decided fresh air would feel good, and getting out and about might give me something to think about other than being sick. I pulled on leggings and a sweater and made my way to the field.
“You ready to join in?” Cameron called to me. I got excited and started to try to jump in.
“No.” Kayne barked. He met me before I could get too close to anyone. He leaned close to my ear and placed a hand on my belly. “You cant practice while pregnant, love. We can't risk harm to you, or the baby.”
“Alpha?” Cameron asked. As the Beta, he had two children already, and probably noticed Kayne's protectiveness right away.
“I wasn't going to announce right away.” Kayne said. “Bria is carrying our child. She's just a few weeks in.”
“Congratulations.” Cameron and James said together. As the second and third in command, it was their jobs now to take over extra tasks while Kayne focused on me.
Later that night, Brin came over with homemade sour candies.
“These are the only thing that helped the sickness when I was pregnant. Congratulations, Luna, how exciting to be carrying your first baby.” She said.
I thanked her, and asked all of the questions I could think of.
