Prologue
Foxglove
The table is full of supernatural strangers. A wolf, a bear, a witch, a siren, a dragon, and a vampire. I stared at the chosen few, sensing something of discomfort and anger in the group, but it didn't matter.
They all signed. They were all here for one thing or another. Vengeance, a brother in prison, false promises of inclusivity, blackmail, and much more. I smile as I hold my hands out and pace in front of the table in the conference room of my office.
"Welcome, everyone. I am very happy to introduce myself today. I'm Foxglove and you will report to me throughout the experiment."
Some people move with discomfort but no one says a word. "We have decided to open our doors to explore new horizons. Our Fae bloodlines are pure and have remained that way since the beginning of time. It pleases me to know that we will be trying out new pairings to see what comes of them and open our doors to more supernatural beings."
The Siren smiles, a brilliant smile with white teeth. The bear glares at me with a sullen expression and the rest remain stoic.
"This experiment will span over years. We want to observe and report. The wives we have chosen for each of you come with considerable powers of their own and are beautiful as well. You will be required to care for them, but they belong to you. We will not enforce the rules of the Fae while they are under your care. You may do with them what you like as long as the contract is fulfilled."
The bear shifts and his nose wrinkles but he says nothing. The witch smirks and the dragon glares at me with all of the hate in the world. My hands are clenched, but I'm ready in case any of these men decide to attack me. It wouldn't be a surprise if they did.
Some of these men were forced. I remember the day we announced the experiment and asked for volunteers. The bear had been one of the first, his motive exactly what we needed to reel him in. The vampire came, his motive unsure, but we were happy to take him anyway. The witch wanted Fae's blood which was an argument when we spoke about whether we should allow him to participate or not. But in the end, we didn't care much what he did to the woman as long as we got what we wanted.
The wolf was a rogue. He wanted power and a Fae bride would give him just that. We knew some things about his kind mixed with ours, but seeing as the male didn't want to be experimented on and broke his contract, we had to make do with the rogue wolf.
The Siren was one we had to talk into. There aren't many Siren men to begin with and he was unsure if he liked the thought of being tied down to one woman, namely a Fae one, because his kind needed to breed to get their numbers up. So we promised him he could take other women as long as he followed through with his contract.
And the Dragon...We had to blackmail to get him to do this. He had a lot to lose if he didn't participate and it made us very happy to make sure he knew it.
I grin widely and clap my hands. "We will get you married in as little as three days to your new brides and pay for everything including the honeymoon we have planned for each of you. Our women are trained to be subservient and will not fight you but if they do, we will provide each of you with a pair of magicuffs to ensure they can't attack you."
I lift the box next to the table and hand out the cuffs, watching as some of them take them quickly while others keep their hands balled in fists in front of them. The bear, dragon, and siren, namely.
I watch the others as they study their cuffs with interest.
"The cuffs will burn anyone else who it is not attached to once they are latched to someone. Only we can take them off once they are on. If you put them on yourself, we are not responsible for any odd side effects."
"Odd side effects?" The Siren asks.
"Yes, the cuffs are meant to harness the power of the wearer. Long term, the cuff will rob the wearer of their magic permanently. The cuffs will dispel the magic as soon as it is taken off so that no one can steal the power, just in case any of you get any ideas."
No one says a thing. It's like crickets in this place and it's music to my ears. I smile and clap my hands.
"Are there any questions?"
"Why do we have to marry them?" The Dragon speaks, his voice low and gravelly. My c*ck stirs as I face him, and keep my smile on my face. Of course, these heathens wouldn't care about the sanctity of marriage. The one wolf already showed that he preferred multiple partners. I just didn't think that the Fae were the only race that believed in having one partner for their entire life.
"Our women, just like every Fae, believe in being married to the male they are going to be with. They will not just open their pretty little legs for just anyone."
The Bear scowled and the Dragon's scowl deepened. The Siren frowned and the rest looked bored.
"Anything else?"
"Can we divorce them after the contract is finished?"
"As long as we have what we need from the contract, you can do whatever you like with your wife. She is yours."
The Bear shook his head and a low growl built in his chest. The Dragon had smoke billowing out of his nose. The vampire snickered and the witch grinned. It was sinister and it had me rethinking the rules of the contract. But what was done was done.
"Each of you have your fittings for your suits today and your weddings will be held in the territory your wives hail from. Your wives will habitate your own home and you will be responsible for their well-being with a little compensation from us monthly."
"What if we don't want your money?"
The vampire laughs at the Bear's question and the witch snickers. The wolf nods and the Dragon turns his gorgeous nose to like he's better than that.
"Then set it aside for the future. Either way, you will be compensated for your time and willingness to participate in our first stage of the experiment."
The Dragon huffs and the rest nod. After asking if anyone had any other questions, and no one had anything else to say, I dismissed the bunch and grinned to myself as I made my way to my office.
After Cerulean found out the crucial detail of Ronan Jones' wolf and his powers, we knew we needed to branch out and try to gain some more power for ourselves. If we could infiltrate every supernatural habitat with our half-breeds, we could possibly bend them to our will and become the most powerful of the supernaturals.
It was my idea. I thought it all through and began circulating the information through the black markets throughout the United States and to the poorer families of the Fae with powerful daughters. We offered a handsome sum to the Fae families to sell their daughters to us for an experiment that would benefit all of Fae kind.
We had only six families take the generous offer. And what stunned me was that two out of the six were already wealthy to begin with. We hadn't even reached out to them but word must have gotten out. It made no matter. We took them anyway and now we were going to begin the biggest experiment to Fae kind ever. And it was all because of me.
