CHAPTER SIX
Milan, the next morning
Remi had never liked Milan. Industrial and modern, it was the antithesis of the beautiful cities of Italy that she savored: Florence and Rome, Palermo and Turin. The northern city situated close to the French, Swiss, and Austrian borders, did not feel to her entirely Italian.
But she wasn’t here to sightsee. Daniel and Sergeant Esposito had come across a similar murder to that of Gareth Jaxx.
A Jesuit priest named Antonio Neri had been found with his neck broken at the base of a bridge in the old historical neighborhood just two days before Jaxx had been killed. And so they had flown up to Milan first thing the following morning and gone to visit the coroner’s office.
Remi had wanted to go up the previous evening, but Sergeant Esposito told her the
