Chapter 3: Blood and Bond Part 1: A Morning That Shouldn’t Be Quiet The warehouse was too still. Sunlight filtered through broken windows, catching the dust in the air like frozen ash. Liam slept beside me, curled against a rolled-up jacket. His cheeks were red from crying. His thumb still rested near his lips. But peace was a lie. Axel stood at the far end of the room, shirtless, wrapped in gauze where he’d been clawed. His back was to me again, just like the night before. We hadn’t spoken much since the phone call. The one that said we were being watched. I moved slowly, careful not to wake Liam, and crossed the floor. “Did you sleep?” I asked softly. “No.” “You need to rest—” “I can’t rest when my son’s being hunted,” he snapped. The words were harsh, but his voice cracked at the end. And when he turned, I saw the guilt in his eyes. “I should’ve known,” he whispered. “Someone in my pack… they’ve been working with the rogues. Feeding them intel. Waiting for Liam to surface.” “How long do we have before they find us again?” Axel clenched his jaw. “Not long.” Chapter 3: Blood and Bond Part 2: A Luna’s Threat We didn’t talk about the way Axel watched Liam that morning. Like he was trying to memorize every detail. Like he was falling apart inside. He wasn’t just grieving lost time. He was scared. Liam stirred, yawning and blinking up at us. “Are we going home now?” “No, baby,” I said, kneeling beside him. “We’re going somewhere safe.” Axel stepped forward, crouched. “Hey, little guy. You remember me?” Liam studied him carefully. “You’re the man from the dream,” he said. Axel went still. “What?” “I saw you before. In my dreams. You used to look sad… but then you smiled when I ran to you.” My breath caught in my throat. Axel reached out, and Liam didn’t flinch this time. He placed his tiny hand in Axel’s palm. A light shimmered in the air—brief, silver. The bond was forming. Axel looked at me. “He’s starting to feel the bloodline. He’s stronger than I thought.” “We have to hide him.” “No,” Axel said. “We need to train him.” Chapter 3: Blood and Bond Part 3: Enemies with Familiar Faces We left the warehouse before the sun rose fully. Axel took us through the side roads—avoiding cameras, pack patrols, even old allies. He trusted no one now. And I couldn’t blame him. His motorcycle rumbled beneath us. Liam sat in front of me, nestled in a baby sling and thick coat. Axel drove like the shadows themselves were chasing us. We arrived in a small town near Silver Ridge—neutral territory. But we weren’t alone. Two wolves were already waiting at the cottage Axel had stashed under an alias. One I recognized. Leila. His former Luna. She looked me over with venomous eyes, then stared down at Liam. Her lips curled into a cruel smile. “Well, well. Looks like the bastard had a bastard.” “Watch your mouth,” Axel snapped. Leila laughed coldly. “Relax, Alpha. I’m not here to fight.” She stepped closer to me, lowering her voice. “But you should know… someone put a bounty on your son’s head. And it wasn’t the rogues.” “What are you saying?” I demanded. Leila leaned in, her words like poison. “Your real enemy… is inside your own bloodline.” Chapter 3: Blood and Bond Part 4: The Bond Breaks Again Axel didn’t speak as Leila disappeared into the trees, leaving only tension and suspicion behind. I could feel him unraveling. He stared into the forest long after she was gone. His breathing shallow. His thoughts elsewhere. “Talk to me,” I said gently. He finally turned. “She’s not lying. I always suspected someone in my family had plans to overthrow me, but I didn’t think they’d go this far.” “You think… they want Liam?” “Not just want. They need him. For power. For legitimacy. For leverage.” My chest tightened. “He’s just a child.” “To them, he’s a throne.” Suddenly, Liam let out a sharp gasp. His little body trembled. His eyes snapped open—glowing faintly gold. “Mommy…” he whimpered, holding his head. “I hear... growling. Inside.” Axel was at his side instantly. “It’s starting. His wolf is waking up.” “But he’s only four—” “That’s too early. They’ve triggered it.” I reached for Liam, but his skin was hot. And that’s when it hit me. They weren’t just hunting us. They were pushing him. Awakening him too soon. And if we didn’t stop it… We’d lose him to the bond before we even got the chance to truly know him. Chapter 4: The Awakening Liam’s wolf is surfacing—and it’s too early. Too raw. Too unstable. As his tiny body trembles under the weight of power no child should carry, Aurora faces the terrifying truth: their son was never meant to live a normal life. But as old blood feuds reignite and truths claw their way to the surface, Axel must confront the one thing he buried long ago—his own past. In the shadows, enemies are no longer hiding. They’re watching. Waiting. Planning. And one of them… has a mark that matches Liam’s. As the boy’s awakening begins to tear the veil between instinct and innocence, the question isn’t whether Liam will survive. It’s whether they’ll survive what he becomes. Chapter 4: The Awakening His first howl might not be one of strength… But of pain.
