Chapter 2: The Chase Begins Part 1: Teeth in the Shadows The growl came again—closer this time. Low, guttural, and hungry. Axel's shoulders hunched, muscles stretching as he shifted halfway, claws emerging, eyes glowing. He shoved Liam and me behind the couch with one hand while reaching for the blade tucked in his boot with the other. “Stay down. Don’t move. Don’t speak,” he growled. Liam whimpered quietly. My heart felt like it might tear through my ribs. I peeked over the armrest, pulse racing. The window fogged slightly—and then… Crash! The glass shattered inward. Shards flew like knives. Axel moved like lightning, grabbing the rogue by the throat mid-leap and slamming it into the wall. Wood cracked. Drywall splintered. Blood sprayed. “Two more!” he barked, nostrils flaring. “They’re surrounding the building.” I scrambled for the emergency backpack, yanking Liam’s small hoodie over his head and clutching him tightly. “I’m getting you out the back!” I cried. “No. You’ll never outrun them alone.” Axel turned, bleeding down his side, eyes blazing gold. “We go together. Now.” Part 2: Run for Blood We bolted down the stairwell, the building trembling with each thud above us. Axel led, barefoot and half-shifted, a trail of blood dotting his side. Liam was in my arms, clutching my neck like a lifeline. The emergency exit opened with a screech. Cold night air hit us. Then howls. One rogue lunged from the alley. Axel turned on him mid-air, claws slashing. Flesh tore. The rogue howled, then fell, motionless. “They’re coordinated,” Axel hissed. “This wasn’t random.” “What does that mean?” “It means someone sent them. And they knew about Liam.” A chill ran down my spine that had nothing to do with the night air. Liam buried his face into my shoulder. “Mommy, I’m scared…” “I know, baby. Just hold on.” We sprinted into the street, ducking behind cars, dumpsters, anything we could. I didn’t know where we were going. Just away. Axel’s body blocked every threat with brutal precision. He was fighting like something precious had been stolen. Because it had. Part 3: The Warehouse and the Truth We crashed through the rusted door of an abandoned warehouse on 13th and Madison. Axel slammed it shut, bolting it with a metal pipe. Silence. We were safe. For now. I dropped to my knees, clutching Liam close as his tiny body trembled. My cheeks were wet—I didn’t even remember crying. Axel stood at the entrance, back to us, chest heaving, blood soaking his shirt. “Thank you,” I whispered. He didn’t turn around. “Are you hurt?” Still nothing. Then he said, voice hoarse, “They didn’t just come for the boy. They came for you too.” I stiffened. “Why?” He turned then—face haunted, eyes not just glowing, but darkened with something deeper. “I think someone knows who he is. What he is.” “What is he?” I whispered. Axel hesitated. “Liam is… rare. Mixed blood. Born of Alpha and Luna, outside a mated bond. The power in him—his wolf—is unstable. That kind of child? To the wrong hands… he’s a weapon.” My breath caught. And just like that, the world tilted again. Part 4: Bait and Bloodlines Axel was pacing now, like a caged beast. His aura burned through the air. “We need to leave the city. Tonight.” “I have a job. A life—” “You don’t anymore,” he snapped. “The moment they scented him, it was over.” I flinched, but he softened immediately. “I didn’t mean that. I’m just... I failed you once. I’m not letting them take my son.” Liam was curled up now, sleeping in exhaustion against my lap. I smoothed his hair, trying to hold myself together. “You left me, Axel. You let me suffer alone.” “I thought I was protecting you.” I looked at him, eyes full of fire. “You were running.” Silence. Then—a phone buzz. Loud in the stillness. Axel grabbed it from his pocket. His eyes scanned the screen. And then, his face went cold. “They’ve got your address. All of it. Photos of Liam. Our names. Everything.” I froze. “How?” “There’s a mole. In my old pack.” I stood slowly, fear curling up my spine. “Then we’re not running anymore,” I said. “We fight.” Axel nodded grimly. And outside, the night howled again. Chapter 3: Blood and Bond With the city no longer safe and a target on their backs, Aurora is forced to step back into a world she swore she’d left behind—the dangerous underbelly of the supernatural, where secrets are currency and loyalty is often just a weapon in disguise. As they flee into the shadows, Axel must confront the ghosts of his past and the mistake that cost him the only woman he ever loved. But love is no longer a simple emotion—it’s a liability. And Liam, their son, is at the center of a prophecy neither of them fully understands. His bloodline carries ancient power, and it’s beginning to awaken in terrifying ways. Packs are stirring. Old enemies are hunting. And somewhere in the darkness, a name is whispered—a traitor from Axel’s past who wants Liam not just silenced… but used. With each step forward, Aurora and Axel are pulled deeper into a web of lies, blood oaths, and forbidden truths. Can a bond once severed be reforged in time? Or will fate demand a sacrifice too great to survive? And the bond they once rejected… Is the only thing that might save them. Secrets will be revealed. Powers will awaken. And love? It might hurt more than rejection ever did. Stay tuned for chapter 3
