Friends and Enemies

That was the best sleep I’ve ever experienced. It was the first time I had slept on a furnishing and not the floor of the warehouse at Blood Lake. I decided not to tell Axel that, he may seem timidly controlled around me, but to be an Alpha of a wolf pack, one had to be fierce and protective, and I had no doubt with the way he looked at me that he would be just that. I’m sure that news alone would have him breaking the peace agreement and going for Daxs throat. I stretched my arms up and arched my back. Glancing around the room, I noticed Axel was not here. I was about to go look for him when my eye caught a note on the side table where my tea had gone cold, it read : Good morning, my beautiful Luna, I had some business to attend to with the pack council, forgive me for not being here when you rise. The fridge is fully stocked, and there are towels in the main bathroom cabinets. Get yourself fed, and relax with a shower. Lycan and his mate Ilyda will be by at one to pick you up so you can go shopping for new clothes and essentials. The credit card is on the entryway table, and the pin is zero two one six. Have fun. Money is no concern. I’ll be back before dinner. Love always, Axel. I sat on the edge of the bed and reread the letter to myself. I’d never been shopping before…let alone had money. I usually got my clothes the way all of us had, from older pack members as they had outgrown them. I can’t deny I was excited for my first shopping experience, but also a little nervous to go alone with the beta and his mate. I had only met Lycan once, and though he was kind, I was still hesitant to spend the day with him and Ilyda, whom I had yet to meet. After a quick bowl of frosted cheerios and a luxurious shower, I stood waiting nervously at the front door for my escorts. A silver DeLorean looking right out of ‘Back to the Future’ pulled up and honked the horn twice. Wow. As it turned out, my nerves were for nothing, after all. Ilyda was awesome, and I could easily see us becoming fast friends. “Virgin or not, everyone needs a G string Ivy!” she said way louder than I’d have liked. “Shhh! Oh my God you’re embarrassing me!” I whisper shouted at her. (She'd practically pried my virgin status from me after I refuted having slept with Axel last night) She simply snickered, and sling shot the string underwear at my face. I caught it midair, looking around self-consciously while she doubled over in laughter. My face broke open into a grin as well, and I rolled my eyes. “Uh. Are we done yet, ladies? My arms are seriously going numb.” Lycan whined, standing like a Christmas tree covered in shopping bag ornaments. We wrapped up the expedition and drove back to the pack village, making it in record time. Lycan was a crazy man behind the wheel, and i practically kissed the ground when my feet were back on it. “See ya at the mess hall for dinner!” I waved at them while running into the house. I was looking over all my new purchases when a slinky black string caught my attention. Lifting up the g string thong, I shook my head, laughing. How she snuck that purchase in was beyond me, but I silently thanked her. I had no idea how to be sexy for Axel, but I’m sure when the time came, this would help. After a good sleep and the day spent among new friends, I was beginning to convince myself I could be happy here mated to Axel. It's true we were strangers, but fate leaves no room for errors, and when the moon goddess decides, well...wolves move fast in response. There was still an hour before dinner, and Axel had yet to return, so I decided to go for a walk around the village, check things out, and maybe even connect with some pack members. I had only made it about fifteen minutes down the trail when I ran face first into none other than the irrate intruder herself. “Oh...hi Chelsea.” I said, my face paling nervously. She looked at me like I had grown horns. “Are you actually trying to drop pleasantries right now with me? Where is Axel?” She demanded, looking behind me towards the house. “Um. He’s out. Do you want to leave a message with me for him? I’ll be sure he gets it.” I tried again with a weak smile. Even though I was technically her Luna, it had been less than forty-eight hours, and I was nervous to assert any dominance over members of the pack. “Look here, omega. You may think you’re Luna now, but you’re just a cheap f**k to him. Axel doesn’t know what he wants. I didn’t work this hard to get him in love with me for a piece of trash like you to come in and steal the show. Watch your f*****g back. I mean it.” She said, venom dripping from her tone. Banging hard into my shoulder, she shoved past me, and sashayed toward the village square whistling as she went. “ She did WHAT?!” Axel roared, when I told him about my run in with Chelsea earlier. “Say the word and she’s banished Ivy, threatening a wolf of rank, nome other than her Luna Is a banishing offense!” My insides contracted at the feral look in his eyes. “No Axel. Look, I’ve been here less than two days. The pack needs time adjusting to this as much as I do. She’s hurting, and I understand that. I don’t think she needs banishment though for being a woman with wounded feelings.” I told him pleading with sympathy in my eyes. He let out a hard breath and glanced down at me. His hand caressed the side of my cheek, and he looked at me with adoration. “You’ll make a strong Luna. You have the patience and understanding an Alpha doesn’t always possess." Something in the way he looked at me solidified all my unprocessed feelings. I shoved my nerves and reservations done below the surface, and before I could convince myself otherwise I responded “It's my job as your Luna...your mate.” The blindsided grin that split his face was utterly breathtaking. (Chelsea’s POV) I don’t care if she thinks she’s the stupid f*****g Luna! I thought, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill over. It’s been six years that I’ve loved Axel, SIX YEARS, and one year since I gave him my body... We had something, I know we did. There was a reason he never found his mate, and it’s because it was supposed to be me ! I don’t believe that goodie good b***h was really a rogue, or even his mate for that matter. I think she was sent to infiltrate Silver Falls from an enemy pack. How she ever tricked him into thinking she was his mate I still don’t understand, but I’d bet my life she had help from a dark witch. Witches and werewolves are natural enemies, but you know the saying. An enemy of an enemy is my friend. I wouldn’t put it past that slut to do just that. Not only a traitor to her Alpha, but a traitor to her species. The moon goddess is probably seething with betrayal. I had hoped that burning a death threat into the field would be enough to scare her away, but from where I had been watching in the trees, only Lycan and Axel had seen it. Axel actually tried interrogating me about it earlier today, but I had a solid alibi and an even greater poker face. To tell Ivy about the field threat would be to admit my crime. I’ll just have to think of another way to rid her of Axels life… (Axels POV) We ate dinner at the front of the mess hall, accompanied by Ilyda and Lycan. My mother Joyce, and two younger sisters Sheena and Taryn, sat at an adjoining table. The conversation was flowing and though I knew she was nervous, Ivy held her own chatting away and laughing with my family, looking the perfect picture of a Luna. I could tell my mom and sisters loved her already, and I smiled inwardly with pride. I wish my father was still alive ... After dinner I had to stop Ivy from trying to clear the plates, I guess old habits really are hard to break. I caught Chelsea’s eye watching us and she simply shook her head, and turned. I still haven’t told Ivy about the field, and I don’t intend to. The only way she’ll find out is if whoever did it assumes she already knows, and approaches her about it. That’s what I’ve been banking on happening...but nothing of yet. At first Lycan suggested it may have been Chelsea, but after a half hour of interrogation she had a water tight alibi and we were no further ahead. Besides, she’s stupid, but not stupid enough to do something like that. "Axel?” Ivy broke into my thoughts. “Yes love?” I asked her feigning a normal face. “I’ll be right back I’m going to run back to the house and change into something less nice. I thought maybe our wolves could go for a run tonight? It’s been a few days, and mines dying to stretch her legs.” She said with excitement. “Sounds good babe, I’ll be here when you get back, don’t keep me waiting” I smirked. I'd dropped a few 'babes' and 'sweethearts' here and there to test the waters, and so far she hadn't rescinded her words and run for the hills. I wanted to take her body and claim every bit of her as mine, but for now, her agreement to be my Luna was more than I needed, and I'd wait until she let me know she needed more too. (Ivys POV) As I jogged back up the trail I had to keep myself from shifting in excitement. Tonight would be the first time I would see Axel in his animal form, and my wolf was whining in anticipation. Maybe tonight would be the first of other things for us as well... The moon was up high and the sky was black as obsidian when I rounded the last bend to the house. It was just coming into view and I slowed down my pace to a hopping jog. I reached out for the door handle and that’s when I felt the stinging crack of something blunt hitting me forcefully in the head. I stumbled backwards off the porch, and landed rough on the dirt trail. My eyes were swimming in and out of focus and everything was blurry. AXEL! I tried to mind link him, but without a complete mating the connection was impossible to make. I fought through the pain and heaviness to remain conscious, but the shadow of assault won over. That last thing I remember was being dragged to a car, and placed roughly in the trunk before it slammed shut.
