Chapter Thirty-FiveAgnes had been a little surprised that Alan had risen and left the hotel before even having breakfast. When she had mentioned it, he had tried to reassure her by saying that he simply wanted to get an early start. But, though she hadn't said anything, she hadn't been convinced. She hadn't failed to notice that Alan hadn't slept well. How could she? He had tossed and turned all night, occasionally banging his fist against his pillow.
