Chapter Thirty-SevenBrian Hockley was standing by the lift as Agnes walked out of the drawing room. “Hello, Mrs Lockwood,” he gestured towards the lift. “Going up?” Though he sounded bright enough, Agnes felt there was something not quite right about his tone. Had he seen her and Peter talking together in the drawing room and was wondering what was going on? Peter had made it clear to her that he and Brian weren't the best of friends. “No, not yet, thank you,” she replied. “I want to have a few words with the reception staff, and then I think I might go out for a breath of fresh air.” “No problem,” he replied. “I don't blame you. It's a lovely day.” Agnes kept her voice low when she reached the desk. She didn't want everyone to know about her talking with the manager. Especially Brian
