Saved Him
“s**t,” Ellie muttered under her breath as she watched the man chained to the wall in the next room. Every time she managed to slip into the examination room, she was depressed by the view, but Ellie could not help herself.
Ellie knew the man couldn't see her through the double-sided glass, and yet he seemed to be looking right at her. She glanced at his bare chest and the tight muscles of his well-built body. The man's large biceps stood out sharply as he pulled on the chains, and when he began to wrestle with them, his features betrayed clear rage.
Ellie's heart ached with sympathy and compassion for this man. Despite the fact that he was deprived of freedom and dignity, the man showed determination. He knew the futility of his actions but still continued to fight.
Ellie raised her hand to touch the wooden frame under the glass. She would like to calm the man, showing that someone is worried about him. But most of all Ellie wanted to get him out of the damn prison they kept him in. This man deserves freedom.
A movement in the corner of the room caught her attention, and Ellie looked away from the man who occupied her thoughts day and night. When she saw that one of the technical staff had entered the room, her heart began to race.
Jacob Alter was one of the soulless and emotionless monsters working for Mercil Industries. The asshole just took pleasure in hurting the test subjects.
He was especially cruel to room 416. A month ago, when this big man was not yet chained to the wall, he broke Jacob's nose when he came close to the elbow of a calculating test subject. Ellie knew the technician deserved it.
Jacob's face is still bruised. He gave his intended victim a wicked grin. The technician planned to put even more painful experiments on him.
“Hello, number 416.” Jacob chuckled. This sound was unpleasant. “I heard you pissed off Dr. Trent. You understand what that means, don't you?" Jacob placed a suitcase the size of a bowling bag on the examination table in the corner of the room with a loud thud. "This means that I can do what I really wanted for a long time. Today you will have to suffer." Jacob raised his hand to the security camera in the corner and slashed his hand across his throat.
“s**t, s**t, s**t,” Ellie repeated softly as she panicked. She heard that the prisoners were tortured when they managed to piss off one of the doctors. Obviously, Jacob didn't want to write down all the horror he planned to do with number 416. It must have been a really bad sight.
Jacob lifted his head, continuing to stare into the corner, then smiled and turned to room 416.
The camera is off. Nothing that happens now will be recorded. Dr Trent doesn't know you're going to have a terrible accident, freak. You shouldn't have pissed me off. I warned you what I would do to you. He grabbed the suitcase he had brought.
“No one dares to break my nose and live after that. I knew that not much time would pass, and I would punish you. I just waited. Jacob pulled out a syringe. "Bastard, you're going to die today!"
"No, this will not happen," Ellie thought. For two months she struggled with a nightmare life every day, not to now lose number 416.
She lived in constant fear that her espionage would be discovered, but watching 416's constant determination gave her the strength to meet every day. For his sake, she took dangerous risks in order to obtain enough evidence to release him and the rest of the prisoners.
In fact, she half expected the guards to break in at any second. Ellie was so desperate to gather evidence of what was going on in the research lab that she did something completely crazy half an hour ago.
She stole one of the doctors' badges in order to break into the women's office and download files from the computer. If the guards review the CCTV footage, they'll definitely get caught.
She would be immediately arrested and made life as miserable as Subject 416's. Then by the end of the day, they would both be dead. Ellie oscillated between wanting to do something truly stupid to try and save the man and orders from her real boss not to get involved.
She's finally gathered enough damn evidence, which is probably enough to free all the test subjects. She would be able to take something secretly at the end of her shift if she kept her head down, kept her mouth shut, and didn't attract anyone's attention. And that meant just watching Jacob kill a man chained to the wall.
Ellie's gaze was fixed on Prisoner 416. Of all the test subjects, she wanted to free him the most. This prisoner supported her at night since those Since Ellie was transferred to Mercil Industries' Illicit Drug Research Unit. Number 416 is the last image she sees before she falls asleep every night.
Sometimes she would admit that this prisoner was the main character in her dreams. Ellie made her decision quickly. It is unacceptable for her to watch what is about to happen. This will break her heart. She couldn't live knowing she didn't try to save him.
“This time you are unable to fight me. You are defenceless. I want you to know that you're going to die.” Jacob's voice grew sterner. “But not before I hurt you, animal."
Ellie turned around, with no plan, but desperate to save Subject 416. She ran out of the room, but was forced to slow down when she was in the hallway, aware of the large number of security cameras, and stopped at the back room to get a test kit.
If she had just entered the cell without a valid reason, it would have aroused suspicion.
