Chapter Thirty-Three The sudden jolt of hitting the ground snapped Wolk back to consciousness. The first thing he knew was how cold he felt, though he had no idea why. Having lain on the ground all night in the cool air only exasperated the loss of body temperature from his wound. As he lay there shivering, the pain in his head grew, and he reached up and touched his temple. His hand came away with sticky, drying blood. Sitting up, he was amazed to find he was still wearing his helmet. Gingerly removing it, he began prodding his head where the pain was worst. Though nothing seemed soft—an indication the bone underneath was damaged—his investigation caused the wound to start bleeding again.
