Emotional Protection

Rose's Point of View:    I really can't explain what happened. One minute I'm Skylar Stonebreaker the online writer and the next I'm Rose Stonebreaker the motherly caretaker. I can't explain to you how weird it was for me to wake up, finding myself sprawled out next to a dead body.     I sprang to my feet in panic, staring bewilderingly at the lifeless body. That's when I noticed a small girl, not any older than three, staring at me with a shocked expression on her face. Her eyes were red from crying, her hair glued tightly on her cheeks. She was knelt down next to the teenage girl, mourning over her death.     I glanced back and fourth from the child to the teenager. Something about them looked quite familiar. They must have been related or something because their wild dark blue eyes and dotted faces were undeniably resembling to one another. Mother and daughter perhaps.     The young girl's eyes began watering once again and she turned, shoving her face into her mother's bosom. That's when it hit me. Why these two girls looked so familiar to me even though I was sure I've never met them before. It was an insane idea, but it was the only idea I had at the moment. Maybe because that was the most recent thing that I was thinking of. It was worth a shot.         "Lilith?" I asked, my voice barely audible. The girl pulled away from her mother and looked at me, her hands tightening around Starlet's flannel shirt. Ever so slowly, I inched my way closer to her and Lilith didn't make any efforts to move. Still unbelieving that she existed, I pulled her tightly into my chest, as though feeling if she was real.     'She's defiantly real,' I thought. "Dang it!" I cried, shoving my face into Lilith's back. "This is sooo not happening!" Lilith stayed silent as I felt the heat of tears quickly beginning to fill my eyes. I was so confused, so scared of what was going on right now.    I stayed like that for a moment before finally lifting my head, trying to wipe my eyes. My heart nearly dropped when I saw exactly what was on my middle finger. I pulled myself immediately away from Lilith, holding my hand in front of me, panicking.      "s**t, s**t, s**t!" I cried. "This is NOT happening!" The silver ring fit perfectly around my finger, the face of the skull smirking mockingly up at me. My stomach churned. "No, no, no!" I shouted, falling to the ground and trying to pull the ring off. But it wouldn't budge. My heartbeat quickened and my mind was reeling as I put two and two together. And I did not like my conclusion.      I was somehow sucked into my own story and I'm at the crime scene of Starlet's murder. Not only that, but I'M the one who yields the ring! Once Leo finds out, he won't stop until he kills me. I was in serious danger right now.     Lilith slowly waddled over to me and plopped herself right onto my lap, nuzzling her face into my shoulder. She let out a long yawn and allowed herself to gradually fall asleep. I stared at her in surprise. Was she comforting me or was she just trying to comfort herself? I was astonished how trusting she was even after seeing her mother die. Since when did I create such a sweet, innocent child?     Lilith shivered slightly from the cold breeze that escaped through the cracked door. I hesitantly wrapped both arms around her, trying to keep her warm. I rested my chin on her head and rested my eyes. This wasn't just gonna go away.     'I'm actually here and I'm being hunted down by a psychopathic murderer,' I thought, exasperated. 'I've got to at least try my best to blend in.' I opened my eyes and stared silently at Starlet. I sighed after a moment, removing my arms from Lilith.      "I've got to get YOU to a safe place as well," I whispered quietly, lightly lifting up the sleeping girl. I remembered the little nearby orphanage that I had placed in the closest town and decided that we should go there. 'Is this considered as kidnapping?' I thought, then shook off the unimportant question for now, deciding to deal with it later.     Lilith groggily wrapped bother arms around my neck, moaning something unintelligible. "It'll be okay," I said in a hushed voice. "I'll be with you throughout it all. I'll be your emotional protection if you'll be mine."
