Death Wish

Rose's Point of View:       It's just a theory, but I'm guessing that whenever I don't describe a character completely in my stories, they somehow create their own personality for themselves. Because the owner of the Bethany Orphanage, Mrs. Stein, is a complete b***h when it came to the little things!    Because of my promise to Lilith, I spent the week at the orphanage with her clinging desperately to me as I volunteered. I would spend half of my day helping her with things like changing, bathing, and eating. And the other half of my day I would spend as a nanny, cleaning up after the other kids.     Don't get me wrong, there wasn't a lot of kids living at the orphanage. Maybe only four or five. I'm surprised that the orphanage was still running with that small amount. But there the building stood, filling with dust and gaining more broken windows. It was a rundown building, needing someone to fix it up.     Stein always found things to keep me busy and never did any work herself. I hardly ever saw her leave her office unless she had a new idea of work to keep me occupied. That is, until that dreadful rainy morning that Leo Thomas showed up at the orphanage.     It was weird seeing my favorite character face to face. He looked exactly how I imagined him to be. Down from his fiery green eyes to his sexy aura that poured off of him. Like any other naive girl, Stein fell for his charm straight away. She came flying out of her office, almost tripping over her long, fancy dress with excitement. The children giggled at the bizarre scene and she shot them a dirty look.     Stein pushed what little hair she had hanging free from her bun behind her ear and said something softly to Leo with a sweet look on her face. Leo's dark eyes slowly searched around the room, uninterested in anything Stein had to say. They stopped on me and I instinctively hid Lilith behind me, glaring at him. What did he want? Did he come to finish Lilith off as well? I saw a slight smile form on his face before he turned back to Stein to speak.      I couldn't exactly hear what the two of them were saying but I watched quietly as Stein smiled brightly and walked over towards my direction.      "Rose," Stein said, raising her voice in a patronizing tone, how she usually does when she talks to me. "This young man is looking to adopt Lili-"     "No!" I snapped, then cleared my throat, and NICELY pointed out that I didn't want Lilith, who just got her to go off to live with someone she didn't know. Stein seemed to understand that and nodded. That's when Leo took a step closer, speaking up.     "I understand that her mother had recently died," he said in a sweet, Australian accent. My muscles relaxed for a second, hearing his calming voice for the first time. Everything about this guy made me want to unwind and let go, even the sound of his voice.     'Damn it!' I thought angrily, tensing back up again. 'Why did I have to make this guy so perfect?'     "But that's why I'm here..." Leo said, taking another step closer. "Because I'm the girl's father." I froze, sending him a killer glare. He stopped, almost looking like he wanted to take a step back. HELL no he wasn't Lilith's father!     "Prove it," I said, feeling as Lilith peered out from behind me. Leo's gorgeous face wrinkled up, confused.      "Excuse me?" he asked. I crossed my arms to my chest, giving him a challenging look.      "Birthday and time of birth," I told him. He stuttered to say something but couldn't seem to find any words.     "That's what I thought," I snapped, taking hold of Lilith's arm. "I can't stop you from spending time here at the orphanage, but I WON'T allow you to get anywhere CLOSE to Lilith. Do you understand me?" And with that, I stormed out of the room, leading Lilith with me.     I wasn't thinking when I said that. I was just too angry, too confused, too afraid to realize that I just challenged the boy that wanted me dead.
