The next day, I met with my lawyer, Leo.
"Summer, are you sure about this? Half of Warren's company was built on your effort. If you leave now, you're basically handing everything over." Leo's brows knitted together.
"So what? Stay and keep letting them make a fool of me?" I slid the asset statement across the desk. "I want what's mine transferred out. As for the rest, I'll take whatever I can get."
"Alright. I'll get the paperwork drafted as soon as I can," Leo replied.
After leaving the firm, I headed straight home.
The moment I pushed open the door, I spotted a pair of pink women's slippers by the entryway. Warren's coat was draped over the living room couch.
Water was running in the bathroom.
I walked over. The door was left slightly open.
"Warren, can you pass me my towel? I forgot to bring it in."
Lucy's voice floated out from inside.
Without saying a word, I turned and walked into the bedroom.
Warren was standing in front of the closet, holding my most expensive silk nightgown.
"What are you doing?"
He flinched, and the nightgown slipped from his hands.
"Summer? When did you get home?"
A flash of guilt crossed his face before it was quickly replaced by indignation.
"Why didn't you make any noise when you came in?"
"This is my house. Do I need permission to come back to my own home?"
I bent down, picked up the nightgown, and tossed it straight into the trash.
"What's your problem?" Warren's expression darkened. "Lucy stayed up all night taking care of her mom and got her clothes filthy. She just needed a place to shower. What's wrong with letting her borrow one of your dresses?"
"Borrow my clothes?" I scoffed. "What, does she not own any clothes? Or does she not have a home to go back to?"
"Her house is far away, and ours is the closest. Summer, can you stop reading bad intentions into everything? Lucy's just like one of my buddies. She's nowhere near as calculating as you make her out to be!"
Just then, Lucy emerged from the bathroom wrapped in a towel. Her hair was still dripping wet. The second she saw me, panic flashed across her face.
"Summer, please don't get the wrong idea! I only came here for a shower. Warren and I didn't do anything!"
As she spoke, she instinctively tucked herself behind Warren.
"Get the wrong idea about what?"
The sight of her performance made my stomach twist.
"Summer, stop intimidating her!" Warren immediately stepped in front of Lucy. "If you've got a problem, take it up with me!"
I stared at the man who was so busy protecting another woman and suddenly found the whole scene absurd.
"I'm not upset."
I walked to the dressing table and collected my passport, property certificates, and other important documents.
"What are you doing with those?" Warren asked, frowning.
"I have some things to handle at the office." I shoved everything into my purse and headed for the door.
"Summer!" Lucy called out behind me. "Are you angry with me? Maybe I should leave. I don't want to cause any problems between you and Warren."
"You don't need to go." I paused and glanced back at her. "If you like staying here, then stay."
With that, I pulled open the door and left.
Warren stood there, stunned.
He had probably expected the usual scene, me throwing Lucy out of the house and then starting a massive argument with him.
