-Eva Brooks-
Mom looked at me in shock and asked, "Are you sure that you do not know who that man is?"
Seeing my mother and older brother gazing at me, I replied, "I don't know who he is."
"Mmm," Cruz sighed and said, "A man cannot help a woman without any strings attached. Eva, are you sure that he's not the man who you spent the night with at the Owen's Luxury five-star hotel?"
Shaking my head, I replied firmly, "He's not the man. I don't know him."
"Alright. That's enough questions, Cruz. Eva just got out of the police station, and I am sure that she is famished. I will take her home, while you go back to your wife," Mom said, as she walked up to meet me and crossed her arms with mine.
"Come on, Eva. Let's go home," Mom said, as she linked her hand in mine and took me to her black car waiting. It was a black Toyota Corolla.
"Mom, are you sure that you are taking me home and not taking me over to that man to sell me off?" I asked her confusedly, seeing her smiling face.
"Oh, Eva, why would I do that? I am taking you home," Mom replied, laughing, and I sighed.
"Alright. Take care, brother!" I waved at my brother as he hopped into his red car and drove off.
Sighing, I sat in my mother's car, watching her fasten her seatbelt as she drove out of the police station, taking me home to my father's house.
"Eva, are you sure that you have no idea who the man was who sent us money?" Mom asked softly, her eyes fixed on the road.
"No. I don't know," I replied, watching her drive the car along the expressway as she headed to my father's house.
"Mmm. I wish that you knew him. If he comes to meet you and asks you out, I think you should move on with him and not get back with Jacob. The Stone Group has humiliated us enough," Mom said, her voice cold, as her fist clenched around the steering wheel.
"It's okay, Mom. I hold no grudge against you," I said, to which she replied, "Alright."
A few minutes later, after taking a turn into the neighborhood where we live in Dominic City, my mother's car arrived at the black gate. I watched Tom pull the gate open as Mom waited for him to unlock it before she navigated her car and drove into the residence and parked.
Sighing, I got out of the car and walked up slowly to the front of the house to meet my father.
"Eva," my father, Mr. Antonio Brooks, stood at the front of the house as he welcomed me heartily, like I had just returned from a trip abroad.
"Dad, good evening," I greeted him with a smile, and he replied happily, as he stood at the front of the house, dressed in a yellow top and black slacks with a pair of black slipper shoes.
"Welcome, Eva, my lovely daughter," Dad said, his voice full of praise for me, and I smiled at his hype.
"Eva, I am sorry that I wasn't able to come to the police station to get you out. You can ask your mother; we have been running around trying to raise the money to pay off the Stone Group. After Jacob Stone withdrew his funding from our loan company, we had to run around to ask other partners for help, but none of them agreed to help us. They were asking me to sell off my company to them, until a man called your mother and asked her for her bank details. Just like that, he wired a bank transfer of five million into her account, and we are still in shock, looking forward to meeting him. But he told us to forgive you for your sins and not hold it against you or disown you. Who is this man, Eva? You need to invite him over so that we can thank him appropriately. Also, Stone Group has apologized to us online as they withdrew all the ridiculous posts that they made about you online. I don't want you to go back to Jacob Stone. No matter what you did, publishing you like that and asking for a refund was out of line. He went too far!" My father was seething with anger, and I understood his pain.
"It's okay, Dad. I am sorry, but I don't know who the man is," I lied, as there was no way that I would mention Ethan Owen to my father. Dad could have a heart attack if he heard that I had s*x with Dominic City's richest bachelor.
"Eva, are you sure that you do not know the man?" Dad inquired, his voice full of doubt as he peered at me seriously.
"Dad, why would I lie to you? I do not know the man, and I am serious," I replied, and my father sighed.
"Alright. Come inside the house first. We can talk about that later. And don't hold any grudge against your mother. She was only annoyed with you and didn't mean it when we said we would disown you. About the post that we made, it was only to make the public not drag us into your scandalous affair. Someone recorded you on the hotel bed, plastered with hickeys all over your neck, before they uploaded it online. Do you know who did that?"
Dad peered at me seriously, and my fist clenched. Layla had gone too far. I didn't see that she was jealous of my affair with Jacob Stone. She could have snapped at me when Jacob was blaming me at the hotel. As I recalled, I saw Layla holding her phone.
"Dad, it's all settled. Let's go inside the house first. I am famished," I said, to which my father sighed and replied, "Alright. Let's go in."
Dad and Mom led me into the beautiful bungalow house. The house wasn't big, but it was homely and well-furnished. A nostalgic feeling washed over me as I smiled at my mother and said, "I will go and use the bathroom now. I will join you both for dinner."
"Alright, Eva. We will wait," Mom replied with a smile, and I nodded before making my way to my room.
As I got into my room, I sighed and moved over to my bed to sit down. My hand trembled over my phone as I pulled it out and peered at it, wondering if I could call Ethan and thank him for his help. But how could I be sure that Ethan was the man who had bailed me out? If he was the one, then he ought to have called me on the phone after hearing of my release from the police station.
Shaking my head, I thought against calling Ethan as I kept my phone on my dresser and stripped off my green dress, before I went into the bathroom to have my bath.
