Chapter 12

-Ethan Owen- I looked at my parents' faces as I became speechless, seeing them peering at me coldly. "Fine. If that's what you and Mom want," I said, feeling my body start to perspire, and my mother smiled as her gaze softened. "Don't worry, Ethan. I know that you're scared of women, but Freya is a nice woman. She will not scam you or defraud you. She will make a good wife," Mom said, and my hold around my teacup clenched. Angelina chimed in with her excited voice as she said, "Yes, Brother. Freya is a good lady. You should take her seriously. She is my friend too." "Ugh. Fine. Can I go and see Grandma? I have some things to do, and I don't want to waste my entire day discussing about Freya," I said as I finished with my tea and set down my teacup to leave the dining room. Rising to my feet, my mother stopped me. "Not so fast, Ethan. You should call Freya right now and apologize to her for not making time for both of you." "Mom…" I groaned and peered at her face as I already stood up to leave the dining room. "Yes, Ethan. You should call Freya to apologize for not calling her throughout the week. Since we announced the arranged marriage to you, you haven't taken Freya out on a date or made her feel special. The least that you can do is to call her and ask her how she is doing. Make her feel loved," my father said. I stood speechless, watching my parents discuss calling Freya. "Fine. I will call Freya if that's what you want," I said, before taking out my phone. It was my private phone line that had most of my family and friends' contacts stored. Searching for Freya's contact, I called her to see if that would make my parents stop disturbing me. "Hello," I said as soon as Freya answered her call on the first ring, like she was waiting for me to call her. "Hello, is this Freya?" I asked her, as I rarely called her. My sister smiled, watching me speak to her friend. "Yes, Ethan. Good morning and happy weekend," Freya replied in her smooth feminine voice. She had a lovely voice, as she was a television broadcaster. My mind wandered off to the lady from the previous night who also had an alluring voice that made me aroused instantly. Clearing my voice as I tried not to think of Eva, I focused on my call with Freya and asked her, "How are you doing? I am sorry that I haven't made the time to call you. I hope that you're not pissed off with me." "No, Ethan. I am not pissed off. I understand that you're busy and you have a lot of workload to do. I am not pissed off at all," Freya said. "Alright. Good to hear from you. Are you free tomorrow? Let me make it up to you and take you out?" I asked calmly, to which Freya excitedly replied, "Of course, I am free. I will be looking forward to going out with you." "Alright. See you tomorrow then," I said, seeing my family watching me with a smile, and Freya happily replied, "You too, babe. Take care." As the call ended, I put my phone in my trouser pocket, and my mother happily squealed. "Now you made the right decision. You should call Freya often so that you can build the bond with her, and we will speed up the wedding arrangements." Hearing about my wedding with Freya made me unhappy, but I forced a tight smile and replied, "Alright, Mom. Let me go and check on Grandma." I looked away from my parents as I made my way toward the grand stairs and went upstairs to the second floor. Walking towards my grandmother's room, I knocked on the door and gently pushed it open. Grandma Anita sat on the bed, like she was just waking up. She was wearing an orange nightdress even though it was almost 11 AM. Seeing me walking into the room, she smiled and said, "Ethan, you're back." "Yes, Grandma. I am home. Dad said you refuse to take your medicine. What's wrong?" I asked her softly as I walked into the room to meet her. Grandma Anita smiled and shook her head as I approached. "I am worried about you," she said, and I frowned, finally approaching her. "Why are you worried, Grandma? I am fine," I replied, taking a seat next to her bed, and she shook her head. "Ethan, I know that you're fine. But you're still single. Your father was my only child, and your mother—she only birthed you and your sister. I want you both to get married to continue with our family legacy," Grandma Anita said, her voice broken like she was about to cry. I knew my father got married on time because he was her only child. "I will marry, Grandmother," I said, my voice lacking confidence, as I knew that I was wary of women. But I didn't avoid my grandma's touch as she took my hand in hers. "Ethan, promise me that you will marry this year." "Grandma," my eyes widened in shock, as she wanted me to swear with my life. "Grandma, I will marry. I just don't trust any woman," I said, and she laughed. "How about Freya? She is a good woman, and you both are engaged. Why not marry her and start living with her? I want her to get pregnant soon. I want to hold my grandchildren before I join your grandpa in heaven," Grandma Anita said, and my jaw dropped as I felt a pounding headache. "Grandma, relax. You're not dying anytime soon. What makes you think Grandpa is in heaven? What if he was always reborn into another family? You will be disappointed dying soon and not finding him in heaven," I said, and my grandma's eyes narrowed at me. "Shut up, Ethan. I know you don't trust anyone or understand what love means. But your grandpa loved me so much. If he wasn't attacked by our enemies then, he wouldn't have died so early and left me with only your father. I want you to marry this year. This is August. So before December, your wife will be pregnant, and by next year, I will carry my grandchild," my grandmother said, her eyes glinting with interest as she already calculated the date of expecting her grandchildren. "It's fine, Grandma. I see what you want is children. I will give you children. There are so many of them in the orphanage homes," I said as I rose to my feet. "Ethan!" Grandma Anita snapped at me and said, "I don't want orphanage kids. I am not stopping you from helping the poor, but no matter what you do to make them happy, they are not your family. They cannot be us. You need to have your own children and not the orphanage kids. Please…" "Fine. I will marry Freya. Are you going to take your medicine now?" I asked her to cheer her up, and her eyes widened with excitement. "Of course, but tell the maids to serve me food. I am famished." "Alright. I will send for them. Take care of yourself, Grandma. If you kill yourself and don't take your medicine, I will remain single for the rest of my life." I threatened her too, and her eyes widened in shock, knowing that I didn't like women. "Of course, Ethan. I will live for you. I will take my medication," Grandma Anita said with a smile, and I smiled and exited her room. Sighing as I walked into the corridor, I sent for a maid to go and serve my grandmother her breakfast before I went downstairs to meet my mother.
