“I love you not only for what you are but for what I am when I am with you. I love you not only for what you have made of yourself but for what you are making of me. I love you for the part of me that you bring out.” – Elizabeth Barrett Browning
You know when people say they are attached to a place or a country and can’t leave it, it doesn’t mean they are in love with the place it just means they are in love with the memories and the times they have spent with people there. There was nothing for Lisa to cherish about New York, she was here in her loneliest times and every time she comes back the same feeling comes riding back.
"Don’t give that look here, people will think I kidn*pped you," Xavier whispered behind her tugging his bag along with him.
"And didn’t you?" She questioned getting annoyed with everything.
"No, you got yourself kidn*pped" He answered taking hold of her hand and walking out of the airport.
"Well, that’s one way to put it." She answered almost mumbling to herself.
"Mia! Hey girl!!" She heard the familiar voice of her assistant. Before Mia knew she was taken into a bone-crushing hug.
"Emily, hey," how did she know she was coming back?
"You missed so much! We sold so many new of your designer dressers and we got so many new orders, thank God you are here! We have got so much work to do." She exclaimed happily. Emily was always like this, a fun and outgoing person. Almost like she was Mia's twin sister.
"And you must be Xavier, right? Nice to meet you, I am Emily." She introduced herself shaking his hand.
"Yes, Emily of course. You sound even sweeter than on phone" he flirted taking hold of her hand and placed a kiss on her hand. Sweet? How does she sound even more sweet? And how did they knew each other?
"That’s really sweet of you Xavier when you told me on the phone how Mia wanted to be back and spend some time here with you alone, I had to do my best. A couple deserves a good time together. And I am so mad at you Mia, you didn’t even tell me about your new boyfriend." She exclaimed shoving on Mia's shoulder a bit.
"Well, Mia likes to keep me like her dirty secret" Xavier said passing his charming smile to Emily who obviously was too dumb to understand any of it. Mia was too confused by everything. She looked at Xavier and he gave her the look to follow along. He spoke everything like it was really true.
"But you could have told me, Mia, last time I thought you were with C-"
"Yeah yeah, that’s okay, I should have told you. I am sorry." Mia quickly spoke up, it was too early for anyone to speak about it and she knew if Xavier knew she would be in greater trouble.
"Ah.. Okay so come on, I will drive you guys home." Emily said not sure of what was happening or what else should she say. As Mia clearly looked like she didn’t want to share any of this right now.
"I will take the bags" Xavier announced and looked at Mia with the same dark and dangerous look in his eyes. He knew she was hiding something and she could feel he wouldn’t just leave it there. He could go to any depth to find something to use against her.
Soon they reached Mia's apartment. There was nothing she missed about this place except for the silence and peace sometimes. She could think here, but now she was not really sure because a living problem was hanging around her like a moth.
"Are you coming back to the boutique Mia?" Emily suddenly asked helping with pulling out the bags from the car. It was too soon to be back at work for her, but she could do anything to stay away from Xavier.
"Yeah, I think so. I would like to see what’s going on around." She answered nervously putting her hands in the back pocket of her jeans.
"Great! I will let everyone know, the boss is back!" Emily exclaimed happily pulling out the last bag from the car and handing it to Xavier, who was awfully quiet during the whole conversation.
"Yeah, I will see you tomorrow" Mia answered passing her a small smile. She could see them approaching her house, the house she had spent two years thinking about how can she get everything to get back to normal and now that everything was normal she was not there with her family.
"Classy" She heard Xavier say behind her "I was not expecting this from you" he answered placing down the bags again and glancing around the place.
"Then what did you expect?" She asked meekly picking up her bag from the floor and trying to get hold of the second one which obviously was too heavier to carry along.
"Some pink barbie s**t" He announced with his hands placed on his waist.
"I am 23, not 7" she answered mockingly as one bag on her shoulder fell off on the floor "Dammit!" She snickered tightly.
"Don’t bother princess, your arms are not too strong." He mocked her picking up the fallen bag from the floor. "Show me your room." He asked while he carried both hers and his bag along.
"You drop that, my arms are perfectly capable of carrying my things." She snapped trying to pull her bag off his shoulder. "Drop it" she exclaimed forcefully trying to snap the bag which he was now tugging in his hand. He dropped the other two bags and got hold of the bag Mia was trying to snatch.
"I said I will take it for you," he said pulling the bag with his hands towards him.
"No, I will do it" Mia answered forcefully trying to take the bag again.
"Leave it, princess"
"No, you leave i***t"
"I am not an i***t"
"Sure you are! Fighting for a God damn bag!"
"You seem to be doing the same."
"Hand me the bag Mia" exclaimed one last time with all her force, as she thought his grip was getting loose. A smile of victory started to take place on her face as she saw his fingers moving always from the bag but before that, his grip tightened as he tugged the bag closer to him pulling Mia towards him.
One of his hands landed on her waist while she placed one of her hands on his shoulder. Her breathe got hitched as soon as she realised how close they both were. His bright green eyes looked straight into hers as his hand gently lay around her waist. She could feel him getting closer as his face came down and his breathe matched on her cheeks. Her heartbeat took a roll when lips came closer to her.
"Maybe you should consider painting the house pink, it suits you" he whispered in her ear putting her hands on her hips and carrying her in bridal style.
"What pink? And put me down please!" Mia shouted as he carried her upstairs towards God knows where. He just chuckled showing his charming smile.
"Maybe next time, pull up your jeans a bit up. Catchy colours catch eyes quick." He winked as he continued to walk upstairs.
"Oh god! You are such a p*****t! I am-"
"Tell me where your room is princess otherwise I am going to carry you like this all around the house until I find your room. And for most of the way maybe just shut up." He asked still chuckling making her cheeks flush with redness. She decided not to say anything and just pointed him to her room.
She didn’t know where she was headed, but she sure felt like she liked the path.
