The lap of the moon

Darian opened his eyes as a pair of blue eyes hovered over his. His face was covered with something sticky and his head was against something pointy. "Is that you, Darian? " A very familiar voice rang in his ears ,quivering, as he toiled to open his eyes. There was a sharp pain pinning at his spine. His eyes felt like they weighed tons. His hands and legs, too, were almost paralyzed. " Is it really you? " That voice now rang closer to his ears as a pair of hands caressed his cheeks and head. Darian didn't need to see them to know who it was. He knew her every touch, every breath. He could tell her presence even from miles apart. " I thought I would never see you again. But you came... " The distress in her voice was becoming more and more clear. " You have no idea how I have missed you. " Darian could not respond. He could not tell her how he yearned for her. He could not tell her how much he wanted to hold her in his arms, like nothing was lost, like they were before. " Dont worry. It's just a temporary state of paralysis. Butter didnt know. I will take you to the facility. You will come around in an hour or two. " She must have looked around because her reassurance followed with some momentary silence. " Were there other's with you? " There were. Darian needed to tell her. " I think so. Let me take you to the facility first. I will come back with some help and look for your friends. Does that work? " Darian felt himself being heaved and his body hung over her shoulders. Then they slid like a serpent at full speed, but Darian was sure they were hovering in mid-air. " Have you been doing well? Ahh! Of course. You came here as an official representative. Ahhh! Darian. Will this truce work out? Do you think things will ever get back to what they used to be? " Darian could only listen. But it felt nice nevertheless to listen to her gibberish. His mind floated away to that fateful day, when fate took them apart- "Are you getting old? " Hazal had teased Darian when he slipped as they climbed the slope. They were out in the mountain forest, quenching Hazal's never-ending wonder lust. " Why did you have to come here? Don't you know how bad things are now outside? " Though Darian had tried warning her, she didn't even seem to pay any heed. " Exactly my point. The world is being turned upside down. Who knows how long we are even going to be alive. So this was a must do on my list. How could I possibly leave this world without tasting the Inebriation Leaves? " It was a wild herb that grew in the underwater cave deep inside the mountain forest. As they were supernatural beings, normal intoxicants didn't have any long-lasting effects on them. Ever since Hazal had known about the wild herb from her friend, she was hell bent on trying it herself. Her friends had given her a detailed road map when she had come around after being in her dope state for a few days at a stretch. As usual, Darian was her one and only partner in crime. It had taken them the entirety of the day just to reach the location and pluck the vines. " Lets camp here. We won't be able to leave anyway after a few gulps. " Hazal had chirped as she rubbed her hands with that mischievous twinkle in her eyes. The next few minutes she had meticulously spent brewing and serving. And she was very particular. Darian, too, had to have the tea. Ahh! It was so much work trying to deceive her into thinking he was drinking as well. But luckily Darian was able to manage to throw every single cup away. Lucky it was. Of course. How else would he have remembered all that had happened after that? " Stay still, boy. Don't you see me as a woman? You are always busy paying all the girls attention in the Pack. When you are with them you seem to have so much fun. " Hazal's sudden jealous confession wasn't the only pleasant surprise he had got that day. She had ripped his clothes as she had pounced on him, licking his bare skin with her tongue and brushing him with her hair. Darian could never forget the thrill it had sent about his spine, groin and core. It had taken him to harness all his strength to stop her from continuing because he, himself, wanted more. It had been the toughest job he had ever done in his entire life, to dress her undressed body and help her to lie. He had to get away from her as she slept sound like a baby. He had to get away to stop himself from doing anything she would regret later when she wasn't her true being. He had covered her with his jacket and when out in the cold to calm his mind. Had he known it would be the last time they would have been together, he would have given everything he had just to revisit that night. Darian never got to come back to her. When he did everything , the world, as they knew, was already gone. But he had tried hard to find her but nowhere could she be found. Now that she had suddenly appeared in person in front of him, Darian couldn't react. He couldn't even see. It has been decades. Nothing is as it used to be. Would she still be his Hazal or was she a different being? Questions lurked in his mind as the Moon around him resonated with a strange frequency. How would these strange terrains treat him? How about his team? He had a mission he was responsible for. He could not be on his knees. Darian tried to bring in all his scattered thoughts and tie them up in his mind. He needed to focus. He needed a little time. Things would naturally unwind and he needed to do what needed to be done.
