Lilly
I woke up this morning to find Damon, Stefan and Elena sat talking about the fight Damon compelled the dude to start with Tyler, which made me remember I never asked what happened between them. “They’re definitely something, Mason joined in with the fight, just like you thought he would, only thing is he used supernatural speed”
“That’s because they’re not human, the only question now is, what are they?” I spoke walking into the room taking a seat resting my feet on Damon’s knees. “We need to find out what that is before they figure out what we are”
“Y-you can’t hurt them” Elena stuttered making me look over at her. “Relax, I never said anything about killing them, all I said was we find out what they are. I’m sure you don’t want them to come and kill your boyfriend” I raised my eyebrows.
“Nobody will be kill or hurting anyone” Stefan reassured her making me roll my eyes. “For now” I mumbled. “Call Alaric, I’m sure he’ll know something, Isobel’s notes at the university is bound to have something about them” I added before standing up and heading upto my room to get changed since we have company and I’d no doubt be dragged out somewhere today.
Once I was ready I went down to the basement grabbing myself a bloodbag before joining the others, which now included Rico. “So now that Lillys joined us with her presence, let’s get down to business. We were hoping you could shed some light on the Lockwood family” Stefan spoke up sending me a look.
I sighed as I got comfortable in my seat starting to drink the bloodbag, ignoring the looks I was getting from the 2 humans and Stefan. “What makes you think I know anything about the Lockwood’s?” Rico asked confused making me chuckle. “Well not you per say, but your dead, not dead vampire wife might” I spoke up making him look at me.
I knew for a fact Isobel would have something on them, she was obsessed with the supernatural, so I’m 100% sure she’d have something on them somewhere. “Isobel’s research from when you guys were at Duke together” Elena added.
“You said that she spent years researching this town” Stefan added trying to get him to help, but if he didn’t I would just kill him again and again until he agrees, he does have a nifty ‘bring you back to life’ ring.
“Isobel’s research here… Mystic Falls was rooted in folklore and legend. At the time I thought most of it was fiction” I chuckled. “Like that amazing vampire story?”
“Aside from vampires, what else?” Elena asked him, sending me a look. “Lycanthrope” I shared a look with Damon and Stefan before looking at Alaric. “Wait, Lycanthrope, as in werewolves?” Elena asked.
“No way, impossible, way too Lon Chaney” I spoke up shaking my head not believing him. “Is it?” Stefan asked making me look at him. “I’ve been on this planet 160 some odd years and I’ve never come across one” Damon spoke up. “If werewolves exist, where the hell are they?” I asked looking at them all before going back to my bloodbag.
“Why do you suspect the Lockwood’s?” Alaric asked curiously, Damon told him how the Gilbert device affected them but the vervain didn’t, Stefan adding how Mason had some sort of supernatural strength when he fought the carnival worker that Damon compelled to start a fight with Tyler.
“Now we just need Isobel’s research to find out what they are” I told him standing up and throwing the empty bloodbag in the bin before sitting back down. He didn’t look like he was gonna let us go and look through her research. “We need to know what we’re dealing with, if this werewolf thing is true, well let’s just say I’ve seen enough movies to know it’s not good”
“It means that Mason Lockwood is a real-life Lon Chaney and that little Tyler punk may just very well be Lon Chaney Junior, which means Bella Lugosi, meaning me, is totally screwed” Damon added.
Thankfully he agreed so while Stefan stayed in Mystic Falls to help Caroline through the whole transition thing, myself, Rico, Elena and Damon went to Duke to see what we could find.
I just hope that whatever we find doesn’t tell us that the Lockwood’s could actually be a danger to us, because I will be killing the Lockwood line.
“Excuse me, hi, I’m Alaric Saltzman, I called earlier” Alaric spoke to a woman as we stood inside Duke university. “Yes of course, I’m Vanessa Monroe, research assistant, comparative folklore… Uh, let me just grab Isobel’s keys” She introduced herself flicking her eyes over to me, Damon and Elena.
“I’m sorry, these are my friends Lilly, Damon and Elena, I hope this isn’t too much of an imposition” I chuckled to myself as he called me a friend, I don’t think I’ll ever be his friend.
“Oh please, Isobel’s office is just this way. Isobel was one of my first professors, I’m a grad student she was brilliant, one of the reasons I went into folklore. I have to ask, has there been any news?” Vanessa asked Rico. “No, I’m afraid not”
“It’s right this way” She told us leading us into a room. I looked around the room while Vanessa went to turn on the light which was taking a long time to flick a switch. “Huh, where she go?” I asked just as she walked into the room with a crossbow aiming it at Elena, a human.
I rushed over to stand in front of Elena as she shot the arrow, and instead of hitting Elena, the arrow was shot into my back making me groan. “Ugh!”
Since I couldn’t reach it and the damn thing was covered in vervain it was left to Elena to pull it out while Alaric took the b***h into another room. “Just pull the damn thing out Elena, it hurts!” I snapped and thankfully she listened to me and pulled it out of my back.
“That b***h is dead” I gritted as I went to walk out of the room to where Alaric had Vanessa. “I thought you were good now Lilly?” I quickly span around to look at Elena who was stood with her arms crossed. “Yeah, well that was before the b***h shot me, so now I’m vengeful… You should be happy, I saved your useless, human life”
I turned on my heels and carried on heading to the room where Rico and Vanessa was, Damon and Lilly behind me. “Please! I freaked out, okay? You would have done the same thing, it’s not possible! Katherine Pierce can’t be alive and Damon and Lilly Marie Salvatore died in 1865. Okay? I ready Isobel’s research” I could hear Vanessa cry making me smirk. “Well then, you should know how possible this is”
I smirked as I walked into the room, my eyes landing on the human who thought it was a good idea to try and kill a vampire. Elena introduced us before asking to look through Isobel’s research on Mystic Falls. Lucky for her she agreed to help us, if not I would have killed her and looked for the research myself.
I knew there was something about the Lockwood’s, but I needed to know what it was, because if they are werewolves then that means I’m screwed. “This box tracks Katherine’s arrival to Mystic Falls in 1864” Vanessa told us as she grabbed a box placing it on a table in front of Elena. “Is that all there is about her?” Elena asked, obviously wanting to know why she looked like her. “All that I’m aware of”
I sighed before going through a box myself hoping to find something on the Lockwood’s. “Hey, guys, check this out” I looked over at Rico before joining him. “There’s no record of werewolf mythology in Mystic Falls, but here are some records of some of the lesser known legends. Everything from Scandinavian skin-walkers to Maréchal de Retz” Vanessa told us as she handed Damon a book that held a weird drawing of something. “Tonartsliitsii Metslii, which roughly translates into the ‘curse of the sun and the moon’”
“It’s Native American” Rico spoke looking at the book. “Aztec. It explains one origin of the werewolf curse traced though Virginia. The short story: 600 years ago, the Aztecs were plagued by werewolves and vampires. They terrorized the countryside, made farming and hunting impossible until an Aztec shaman cursed them, making vampires slaves to the sun and werewolves servants of the moon. As a result vampires could only prowl at night and werewolves could only turn on a full moon. When the full moon crests in the sky, who’s ever unlucky enough to fall under the werewolf curse turns into a wolf”
I stared at Vanessa not believing what I was actually hearing, the spirits used to tell me stories about werewolves but I never really listened to them, everything they said was a load of nonsense anyway. “Can they control the transformation?” Damon asked making me shake my head. “If they would, it wouldn’t be called a curse” I pointed out.
“Werewolves will attack humans, but instincts and centuries of rivalry have hardwired them to hunt their prey of choice, vampires” I sighed of course the Lockwood’s had to be something that could be potenitially dangerous to us.
Well if werewolves were hunting vampires, we would know about it" Damon added, but I shook my head. "I remember hearing stories from the other witches about a curse that was placed onto the vampires and werewolves, but I never believed it, so I never really listened... So maybe they are real" I shrugged.
"If they were real Lilly, we would have seen one by now" Damon reminded me. "Not necessarily. Not if there aren't many of them left. Hundreds of years ago, vampires hunted them almost to extinction" Vanessa added. “Why would they do that?” Elena asked confused, but I remembered a part of the story that the spirits spoke of.
“For protection” They all looked over at me. “The story is that a werewolf bite is deadly to a vampire, so if other vampires knew this they would have gone and killed them, I knew I would have”
"Oh" Damon whispered staring at me. "Yeah. So that means if the Lockwood's are werewolves, we are totally screwed, unless we kill them" I flicked my eyes over to Elena, to see she wasn't happy about the killing part. "Tonight's a full moon. Stefan and Caroline are still in Mystic Falls" Elena spoke sounding worried. "If the story is true, then someone needs to call him" Alaric reminded us.
Elena offered to call Stefan to warn him, and to make sure he's careful. When she walked back into the room she walked back over to a box looking through it. "Do you know anything about doppelgängers?" Elena asked Vanessa.
“Well the word means a lot of different thing to different cultures, but typically a doppelganger is a living, breathing double of oneself” Vanessa explained to her. “And more things we already know, just… I just wanna know why we look alike” Elena complained.
“Head scratcher isn’t it” Damon smirked over at Elena who looked over at him raising her eyebrows. “Do you know something, or are you just being yourself?” Elena questioned. “If I knew something, I’m not gonna tell you, not with that attitude” Damon gave her his famous Damon Salvatore smirk.
“That’s good Damon and this coming from someone who wants to be my friend, but you know what? Friends don’t manipulate friends, they help eachother” Elena glared at him while I rolled my eyes, anyone would think they were in a relationship and not Elena and Stefan.
Out of the corner of my I spotted something that would come in useful for Elena. “Alright, that’s enough, put your claws away people, I think we’ve found everything we needed. Let’s go” I told them my eyes flickering between Damon Elena and Rico who was being quiet the whole time before turning my attention to Vanessa. “Tell anyone about this and I will kill, and I keep my promises, sweetheart”
I looked at them all again before walking out and making my way outside to Rico’s car, grabbing the book I spotted on my way out. I sat in the back of the car a couple of seconds before Elena joined me, Damon and Rico nowhere in sight making this the perfect time to give her the book. “Here” I held it out towards her. “Petrova?” She asked reading the spine of the book. “What is it?” She asked looking down at it.
“Katherine originally came from Europe, Petrova was her real name, Katerina Petrova to be exact” I smirked at her. “How did you know that?” She asked making me tap my nose. “I have my ways Elena” I smirked, I wasn’t gonna tell her how I knew, that’s a conversation I didn’t want to start.
“Thank you” She whispered as she covered it with her jacket as Damon and Rico came walking over to the car.
