So I was an elder. The head of the council at that. I eyed the necklace as I ran my fingers along the intricate patterns and then the glowing ruby.
The door was thrown open and my mate stood there taking me in. He took large steps and was standing before me.
"What did she say?"
"To wear this. It'll protect me"
"That is an elders necklace"
"So she said. She says it'll keep me safe"
"You don't need a goddamned necklace to keep you safe. Not when I am here"
"What of when you are not" he cupped my face.
"I will always be here. But If for any reason I am not available, my family will lay their lives down to protect you"
"I would rather be able to protect myself. Look at it as something that amplifies my powers" he grunted but did not say any other thing.
"She says she will return" he
