Maya had a wine glass held in her grip when Allison walks in. She had just dropped the kids off at school with her grandfather’s old trunk. The house they were in was her late grandparents house, her mother had told them to move into there when she got pregnant even though Maya hated to be back in her childhood town.
She wondered what the occasion was when she sights the other glass of wine placed on the table.
“Is there something going on I’m not aware of” Allison said while curiously staring at her mother, expecting her mother to talk to her about Larry.
“There’s nothing Allison, come sit, I just wanted to have a mother daughter moment with you, it’s been long since we’ve had that you know” Maya said. Allison walks to an empty seat and draws the wine closer to her.
“Why did you get this from, you said buying wines and alcohol is a waste of money” Allison looks at her mother questioningly. Maya had gotten the wine from Larry as a gift because Maya actually liked drinking wines but doesn’t buy them because she thought she could use the money to pay off their expenses, she deprived herself of a lot of things just to make sure Allison lacked nothing.
“From a friend” Maya lied. Allison knew right away it was from Larry with the way Maya looked. She felt upsetted that the conversation her mother wanted to have wasn’t about telling her the truth but she doesn’t want to bring it up first, she wanted her mother to tell her any time she felt like.
“Okay” Allison simply responded and took the glass to take a sip out of the wine.
“I have something to say” Maya said and Allison yet hoped it was what she wanted to hear.
“What is that” Allison said sounding less curious. Maya hesitates but knew she needed to speak as she couldn’t keep it in anymore.
“It’s about you Allison” Maya said and Allison raised her brow questioningly.
“Me, did I do something wrong” Allison said.
“Not at all, I just thought as your mother, I shouldn’t keep things away from you and facts you should get used to” Maya said and Allison’s interest arose again.
“I’m not patient with your elocution mother” Allison said while she pressed her body on the table.
“I’m sorry about that” Maya said and cleared her throat before moving on to saying what she had wanted to talk about.
“Look daughter, you are way more precious to me than you could ever think, I love you so much and I want the best for you so I won’t hesitate anymore In making you realizing the fact” Maya paused and continues. “I want you to move back to New York with Jaden and Jason”.
Allison’s brows furrowed as she wondered why her mother would have ask such a thing from her when she knows how difficult it was for her to be in that particular city. There, she lost her father, and there she lost herself. She was speechless for a while as she tried to chose words to say.
“Yes I know it’s hard for you Allison, you had too many bad memories there, you wish to escape there the rest of your life but baby….” Tears had wailed Maya’s eyes as she was hurt by reminding herself of what they had both gone through.
“You need to stand back on your foot, I want you to”Maya said.
“Why are you asking this of me, you know I could never go back there, I can’t run into him” Allison referred to Dante. She couldn’t imagine herself, running into Dante or him finding out about her sons.
Ten years ago when Allison got pregnant, she had told her mum about everything that happened. Maya had been furious as she couldn’t imagine the pain her little girl must have felt being molested. Allison had hidden it from her because she wanted her mother not to worry. But she doesn’t have anymore choice when she couldn’t see herself getting rid of the child growing in her. Allison begged her mother to not take any step because she knew of how rich and powerful the Andersons were and how their life could completely get ruined if they involve themselves in them. Maya, as a mother attempted to fight for her daughter. She had often gone to the front of the Andersons enterprises, she would stay rooted, hesitating on going into the company. When she couldn’t take it anymore, she suggested they moved back to her old town. Both of them had a very hard time, Allison was devastated because she could no longer graduate middle school while Maya blamed herself for being an irresponsible mother.
“You won’t run into him Allison and even if you did, he doesn’t have to know anything about you, he deserves not to know, I just want you to live your life right” Maya said and continues “Look Allison, the kid’s competition is actually going to take place in New York, I didn’t want to speak of it because you would be against it and it would hurt your feelings but you need to get yourself unleashed, this isn’t how you wished your life could be, you didn’t want to be bottled up in some old town with a old folk like me, and I personally don’t want that for my only daughter”
“But I can’t…..”Tears had starting dropping from the corners of her eyes as she couldn’t find words to say.
“I know it’s hard baby, but you need to go through it, you need to regain your life rather than being depressed living for your children” Maya said and Allison’s heart broke. Instantly, she regretted being upset with her mother about her secret affair. She knew her mother only lived for her but now she wanted to live for herself and she was upset, she loathed herself for it. She bowed her head, crying quietly. Maya stood up from her seat and walks over to comfort her daughter.
“It’s okay baby, you will be okay” Maya said as she petted Allison on the back.
Allison’s mind was filled with different thoughts of Dante. She wondered if she would ever truly run into him, She wondered if he would still recognize her because of the time that had passed since her departure, She wondered if she could ever stand seeing him, living well when he had won in making her life miserable.
