Chapter 6On June twenty-ninth, I stepped off the plane at LaGuardia. Mistress Yuriko and Takeo were waiting at the gate. “Good day, Joō-sama,” I greeted her in Japanese. I bowed. “Ah! And good day to you, my future dorei.” She patted me on the shoulder. “A very good start.” Takeo took my bag off my shoulder. “You won’t need whatever’s in there,” Yuriko said. Takeo opened it and looked inside. He laughed as he held up the beginning Japanese book and dictionary to show her. “We can put those in the library.” Then he showed her the open bag which held the rest of the money I had and the papers about my health. “We’ll get that put away,” Yuriko said. “Let’s go home.” She turned and walked away. I followed her and Takeo back to the car and settled myself into the back seat. Takeo drove
