Chapter One: The Beginning

1928 Words
I was startled awake by a loud crackling sound, and sat upright, looking around the seemingly empty room. The air felt electrified, and I felt as though my hair was standing on end. The room smelled fried, as though food had been cooking, except I was in my darkened bedroom. Suddenly, there was a loud popping sound, and I jerked backwards under the blankets I was wrapped in, trying to hide. A form began to take shape in the shadows right before my eyes and I was afraid. As the shapeless mass began to resemble a human form, I shrank even further within the warm cocoon. A voice filled the room and I stopped breathing. "Be not afraid. I am Pharaoh, an Anunnaki king from a world far from yours. I have come to collect you. You are to be my mate." I thought to myself "I'm dreaming, right? This isn't real, is it? Is someone playing a joke on me with a hidden projector or something just as weird?" Yet, I didn't have friends who would go this far just to mess with me. As a matter of fact, I didn't have very many close friends as I had always been a loner, not so trusting of others. My entire childhood wasn't available to me. I had never understood why I couldn't remember my younger years, but it was a complete blank. Being well versed in psychology and trauma, I figured that, one day, it would all come flooding back in a wave of remembrance. Was this to be that day, I wondered? I saw the solid form of a huge man stand erect for the first time and my first thought was, "Wow, he's gorgeous!" When the figure before me chuckled deep in his throat, i realized I had spoken aloud. The room began to spin, and the air grew too warm, and my last thought was, Is this what dying is like? AM I dying? Immediately, a response came back to me from the center of the room. "No, my dove, you're not dying. You're about to be reborn." And, then, I knew nothing more as darkness swirled before m eyes and I crumbled to the bed beneath me. My final memory was the haunting sound of music and the faint smell of lavender...then, the swirling blackness swallowed me. ************************************ I woke to the sound of birds singing. Wait. Birds? Ummm, hmmm, I must be dreaming, I thought, but then I heard the sound of trickling water. Okay, now THAT'S weird! I took a deep breath, peeked out from underneath my eyelashes and gasped out loud, bolting upright. What the..? I gazed around me in astonishment.... The first thing to catch my eyes was the lighting. Gone were the muted colors I had associated with all my life, to be replaced with vivid ones in various shades of turquoise, purple and gold. The air was sweet and full of purity. Breathing made me giddy as I allowed my gaze to wander around the room. There were bowls filled with the most beautiful flowers I had ever seen, vines wrapping their tendrils around a gorgeous, ornate chair that sat on a round platform in the center of the room I found myself in. A gently flowing crystal clear stream wandered lazily nearby. It was breathtaking! But...where in the world was I? A soft, musical laugh came from behind me and I swung around, only to stare in awe at the beautiful creature that stood nearby. A woman stood before me with hair the color of night and eyes that took your breath away, so bottomless were they. I had never seen eyes that color before, and I thought an angel stood there. Again came the sound of gentle laughter...except the full-lips didn't utter a sound, instead, it came from inside my head. Had I lost her mind, I asked myself. No, came that tinkling voice again. You're perfectly fine, it said. Don't be afraid, no one will harm you here. You're home, came the thought. "But this is NOT my home," I said out loud. "I must be dreaming, or I have hit my head or...", I let my voice trail away because I knew better. I was definitely awake. The sounds, the smells...EVERYTHING was too vivid to not be real. The woman before me wore a dress that left nothing to the imagination, yet it showed nothing...except for the fabric which clung to her like a second skin. It was shimmering in the light and if you looked at this vision too long, your eyes wanted to stray. She was lovely! "I am Selexa, keeper of the realm you are currently in. Come. Sit with me, Zefreya." Zefreya? Who's that, I thought. "It's your birth name," came the reply. I shook my head. "No, my name is..." I couldn't remember my name? Wow, that was strange. It seemed as if a veil had dropped over my brain and I was lost deep in that thought when Selexa spoke. "Soon, your memory will return to you, and you will know to which world you truly belong." She paused, as if choosing her words carefully. "You are not from the planet you call Earth. You are only half human. But, you are, also, Anunnaki. " She looked right at me when she spoke, so there was no mistaking what she said. "Do you understand me, Zefreya?" I laughed out loud. "That's impossible," I said. "I'm human. Nothing special about me, " I whispered. The glowing figure smiled sadly at me. "You're more special than you think. You were spirited away from the ones who would do you harm and fostered with parents who were childless, to protect you." Again, she paused. "You are of royal bloodlines, Zefreya. You are meant to be a queen. You are meant to rule beside your chosen, bonded mate, Pharaoh." "Chosen? Bonded...mate?" I shook my head. "No. No way this is real." I closed my eyes as everything began to swim before me. My ears suddenly filled with the sound of ringing, and I felt my body grow heavy. The soft voice filled the corners of my mind. "When next you awaken, your memory will be more complete. It will take time to restore all you can't remember. Patience. I will return you to your world. Sleep." I closed my eyes and fell into a deep sleep. My mind was full of the possibilities of life on other planets and what that life might look like. There are places on earth that have baffled scientists and the average individual for thousands of years, and many are outside of our understanding as to how they were constructed. Puma Punku, Nan Madol, Teotihuacán, Machu Picchu, and the Nazca Lines are just a few. There are many more special sites across the planet that defy explanation. And more are being discovered as I write this. What was their purpose? Who built them? Was it human beings or was it, potentially, another more advanced race from another world? Are we a race of people who have forgotten our ancient ties to, not only this planet, but others who traveled here to connect with us? The possibilities are endless. These were the questions that filled my head when I awoke fully. I sat there mesmerized by the images that flooded my head, wondering what had me in such a state of confusion. These weren't the things I normally pondered upon waking. It was confusing and I put it aside as I began to prepare for the day ahead. I was facing a long day of meetings and needed to be clear headed. As I stepped under the hot water, a wave of memories assaulted me and I stood there transfixed as the night before suddenly came center stage in my mind. I gasped and staggered back against the shower wall. "No", I said out loud, " that's not possible!" My imagination was running wild and I thought for sure it was a dream. But, something inside me knew better. It was too real, too vivid to have just been a dream. Was I going crazy? No,that wasn't it. I'm more rational than that. Ok...so what happened last night, I asked myself. It had to have been profound, deeply upsetting me or I would have not entertained the idea that it actually happened. Wow! "Aliens? Really, come on, now. You've watched too many sci-fi movies. Just finish getting ready for work," and dismissed the whole thing. It was almost time to leave and I couldn't be late. Onwards and upwards! No matter how much I pushed these thoughts away, they kept coming back to haunt me. No matter how much I pushed these thoughts away, they kept coming back to haunt me throughout my day. When I was getting ready to go home, I heard a commotion coming from outside my office door so I went to investigate. As I reached out for the handle, it suddenly became very quiet and I paused. The air felt heavy and I was having a hard time breathing. Was there a fire in the building? I shook my head, trying to clear it. I heard a loud popping sound and I froze, my hand inches away from the knob. I went back to my desk and sat down, waiting to see what was going to happen. Minutes passed as I sat there quietly, thinking. The air finally became normal again, not heavy and cloying. I decided it was safe and gathered my bag and, once again, reached for the knob, opening the door. What I saw stunned me and I stepped back. Instead of the office, I saw that place I had met Selexa and my brain couldn’t accept it. I closed my eyes but opened them when I heard her voice. “Come in, Zefreya. I’ve been waiting for you,” she said out loud. “No, you’re not dreaming. This is very real.” The lovely creature beckoned to me and I found myself obeying without pause. I looked closer at the room, only then realizing it was an outdoor area and not a room at all. The air was, once more pure and clean, allowing me to breathe without effort. I had had trouble breathing all my life due to asthma and the loss of a lung from cancer. Yet, in this place it was easy for me to breathe. I pondered it as I gazed around. “You find it difficult to breathe on earth because you are half Anunnaki. The air is different here.” I looked at her and my head was, all of a sudden, full of images I had no explanation for. Playing on a beach with a little boy and the sky was an amazing shade of purples and oranges. Building a sandcastle out of the whitest sand I’d ever seen. Hearing music that came from nowhere, soft and mysterious. A few years older, now, not a small child. Walking along the shore, holding hands with the same boy, now older. Feeling happy and safe in his presence. Walking through places I’d never seen, always with this boy/man. Ancient places more beautiful than anything I could imagine. And that music…it was always playing. Soft, ethereal and calming. This was madness, surely, I thought to myself. Selexa’s laughter filled the corners of my mind. No, her voice said. You’re perfectly fine. Can you hear me, Zefreya? “Yes,” I said out loud.
