Chapter 2

The corridor was long and eerily silent, the thick carpet swallowing every sound of footsteps whole. Kai walked slowly, almost stumbling at times, one hand braced against the wall while his mind continued to spin. By the time he reached the elevator, he had nearly exhausted the last traces of his remaining clarity. “Ding.” The elevator doors slid open. Kai stepped inside, fumbling for the metal handrail to support himself, barely managing to stay upright. It wasn’t because he lacked strength. Rather, his body seemed to have fallen into a state of unbearable exhilaration, as though even his limbs wanted to break free from him and dance wildly on their own. The elevator descended several floors before letting out another soft ding as the doors slid open once more. A tall figure stepped inside. In an instant, the already narrow space seemed completely filled by his presence. The man wore a perfectly tailored black suit that accentuated his imposing six-foot-three frame. Broad shoulders, a lean waist, and every step he took was steady and commanding. His face was almost flawless. Well-defined features, a high straight nose, and cold, sharp contours that looked as though they had been sculpted by the hands of God Himself. The elevator lights reflected against his skin, making his extraordinary handsomeness even more striking. Under normal circumstances, Kai would never dare stare directly at someone with such an overwhelming presence. But right now, his mind was thoroughly clouded by desire. And so, the only thought that surfaced in his head was: Holy s**t, he’s ridiculously handsome! That height, that body, those eyes, that nose, those lips… how can someone look this perfect? Isn’t this exactly my ideal boyfriend? Why the hell would I still go to the hospital? Meeting a top-tier hottie like this and not making a move would be such a waste! Edward Grayson naturally had no idea what was going through Kai’s mind. To him, Kai merely looked like a young man shrinking helplessly into the corner of the elevator, so disheveled that he appeared almost pitiful. His cheeks were flushed red, though it was unclear whether from alcohol or something else entirely. His clothes were slightly rumpled, his hair somewhat messy, yet none of it could conceal the vibrant beauty of his youth. When Kai lifted his head, those large, deep blue eyes - shimmering with moisture and dazzling beneath the lights - looked straight at him. His eyes were so wet they seemed caught between tears and silent grievance, like a lost little deer begging for someone to save him. And in that instant, Edward felt as though something had struck directly against his heart, making it miss a beat. He had never been the type to meddle in other people’s business. Under normal circumstances, he would have pretended not to notice, turned around, and walked away without a second thought. Yet for some reason, Edward Grayson found himself asking, “Do you need any help?” Inside, Kai Mercer was screaming, “Yes! Of course I do!” But the tiny shred of reason he still possessed barely managed to keep his mouth under control. He wasn’t the kind of person who would interfere in someone else’s relationship. No matter the situation, there were certain things he absolutely had to confirm first before making a move. His voice had already gone hoarse, but he still tried to sound serious. “Hey… gorgeous, do you have a boyfriend?” “No,” Edward answered immediately. Even he himself had no idea why his mouth had moved so quickly this time. “Free right now? Let me buy you a drink.” Kai immediately continued, not giving the man even a second to think. “Where?” Edward Grayson raised a brow. “Where are we drinking?” “The hotel room,” Kai answered without hesitation. He was desperate enough to lose his mind already, there was no way he had the patience to go through the normal steps anymore. Edward looked at the young man’s flustered state and the way he swayed unsteadily, as though he might collapse at any moment. His gaze gradually darkened. He remained silent for several seconds before finally saying, “The place you need to go is a hospital.” Edward had seen far too much in his life. One glance was enough for him to understand this kind of situation. Kai’s condition was definitely not drunkenness, nor did it look like an ordinary illness. He had clearly consumed something he never should have touched. His gaze swept across the other man’s flushed face and disordered breathing, further confirming the suspicion in his mind. If there was no partner around to help him “deal with it,” then the safest option was obviously the hospital. “With you standing right here, why would I need a hospital? I can’t afford an ambulance anyway, so help me out a little, gorgeous,” Kai Mercer shot back immediately. Edward frowned slightly. He had never been someone who enjoyed one-night stands. A man like him had always preferred fixed bed partners. Even though his last relationship had ended two months ago, no matter how “starved” he might be, he would never casually sleep around. Too troublesome, and far too unsafe. But before Edward could respond, Kai had already lost patience and cut in first. “So, can you do it or not? Damn it, I’m giving you my first time here, you’re obviously the one getting the better deal.” He stared straight at Edward, his gaze wet and burning hot, desire laid completely bare without the slightest attempt to hide it. “We’re both single. We have fun for one night, and that’s it. Tomorrow morning we wake up and go our separate ways. Isn’t that simple?” A face so pure it looked almost harmless, yet the words coming out of Kai’s mouth were shamelessly seductive. The intense contrast stirred something wild deep inside Edward. For a moment, he found himself unable to look away from Kai at all. “How old are you?” he asked. Kai instantly caught the meaning behind that question. Without the slightest hesitation, he stepped forward until he was nearly pressed against Edward’s body, both arms looping around the man’s neck. “Twenty.” His voice brushed right beside Edward’s ear, carrying heat and hurried breaths. “Relax. I’m not gonna get you thrown in jail.” The distance between them vanished in an instant. Kai’s scorching breath swept across Edward’s neck. Edward clenched his jaw as a faint numbness spread down his spine, igniting a level of excitement he hadn’t felt in a long time. At last, he wrapped an arm around Kai’s waist and pulled him close, lowering his head as he asked in a husky voice, “Which room?” “Any room is fine. As long as it’s you.” Even now, Kai’s mind remained strangely clear about one thing. Only this man fit his taste. If he wasn’t spending tonight with Edward, then he wouldn’t spend it with anyone else. Then, tilting his head up, Kai captured Edward’s lips in a hurried kiss overflowing with desperate desire.
