chapter 6

Junior-

Not being able to see if she was ok was eating me up. There zombies in the world and she still left without me. In Anthony attempt to make me feel better he brings up that Mckenzie not alone. However I'm pretty sure if push comes to shove Angela will throw her under the bus.

A knock on the door echoes through the house. When I open it up and Angela runs into my arms. "My family dead Junior." She sobs. I look up and see Mckenzie looking around.

"What about yours kenzie?" I ask her.

"They weren't home. They packed their stuff and got out." Mckenzie says. She walks in and grabs Angela arm to bring her inside. After they get in I shut and lock the door.

"That good news right?" I ask her.

She shrugs, "I guess so. I wish I could see them so I know for sure." She looks down like she was holding a secret.

"Did anything else happen?" I go up to her and gently grab her hand. "You can tell me anything."

She looks up to me and smile. "I know, and I will if I need to."

I give her a hug and walk over to Angela. "I'm sorry about your parents."

Angela sits on the couch and tries to calm herself from crying. "It's ok, at least I have you guys." I nod at her and sit in a blue rocking chair.

"I've been avoiding my house for this reason. It's alot better to think my mom alive, than to see her dead body trying to eat me." Anthony states.

"I rather know their dead so I can grieve them and live my life." Mckenzie tells Anthony.

I rock my chair and close my eyes. Since losing R.J, I didn't want to see anyone else I loved like that. After hearing Angela situation, the feeling was only stronger. Eventually I would have to find out. so that way if their dead I can bury them.

"Maybe you don't want to see them because your a chicken." Mckenzie teases.

"If I was a chicken, I wouldn't have hooked up with your mom." Anthony says before he burst out laughing.

"How original. Using a your mom joke." She smirks at him. "Besides this is no way to talk to your step mom." She giggles.

Anthony gives a confused look and realization hits. He doubles over laughing. "Now I know why my dad left."

"Ya hes been with me." Mckenzie laughs.

I watch them laugh as they hold their stomach like it hurts. This was their friendship. Making fun of eachother and using their insecurities as jokes.

"Mckenzie wipes the tears from her eyes. "I'm going to go and see how Brandon and Emily are." She walks out of the room after that.

Jace-

Emily and I talked since she been here. We talked about her parents and our feelings. We even talked about her brother, how he might be alive.

"I'm happy to get to talk to you like this. Before the out break we never really got the chance." She says sweetly.

"Ya I feel the same way." I tell her. Emily was beautiful. We always had feelings for eachother but we never acted on them because her parents wasn't ok with it. Now I didn't think we would ever get the chance because how broken she looked. I heard what happened and I felt so bad for her. To see her mom like that and her dad laying on the ground was horrible.

Mckenzie walks in and gives Emily a hug. "How are you doing?" She asked sweetly.

Emily gave a smile, "I'm fine, I'll need time before I really feel well."

"I understand it takes time. Sometimes to much time." A flash of sadness crosses Mckenzie face.

"We're here for you Emily." I tell her. Mckenzie nod in agreement and we give Emily a group hug.

Mckenzie-

I shouldn't care that him and Emily look close, but I do. The way they looked at eachother made me feel empty. I knew I had a thing with Junior, I couldn't deny it. But I had said no to Junior for a reason. When I had saw Jace the feeling were pooling out of me. I didn't go for him though because Junior was hurting. I didn't want to cause any more pain.

"I wish you came with me K.B." I tell him after Emily left. She had went to the livingroom where she saw her brother headed.

"Why that?" He asked curiously.

"Because it would have felt easier. I would have felt more safe." I tell him.

"You didn't feel safe with angela?" He teases.

"Of course not." I laugh.

"Well the next time you and Angela go on an adventure. Just wake me up and I'll go with you." Jace smiles at me warmly.

"I promise you I will." A thought pops in my head that makes me worry. "Can you keep a secret if I ask you to?" I ask.

"Sure." He says casually.

"I found a note in my house. It said that my parents said yes." I say quietly.

"Do you think it's true?" He asks questionly.

"I wouldn't know unless I went to see for myself." I tell him.

"I don't trust it. It could be a trap." Jace says sternly.

"That why I haven't done anything about it. But it's my parents were talking about. I don't know what to do." Tears start to form in my eyes.

"If you go there, I'll go with you. But we won't stay. Jace says rubbing his forehead. He didn't trust it and he hated the thought of going in there.

"Ok I'll let you know what I decide." I say. I get up and give him a hug. "Thank you for being here for me K.B." After that we walk back to the living room together.

Anthony-

I watch Mckenzie swoon over Jace. I could have sworn that her and Junior was going to get together. Yet she looking at Jace like he was the most attractive man alive. Junior tries to avoid looking, but he can't stop the quick glances.

"We should go to the store at some point. I dying for some cheetos." I whisper."

"Your really worried about cheetos?" He asks.

"No I'm craving cheetos, I'm not worried about anything." That was a lie I hadn't seen my girlfriend since the morning before the world ended. And not knowing if she was alive was starting to get to me.

"I don't know, I don't want to leave everyone." Junior says sneaking another look to mckenzie.

"She will be fine." I tell him putting my hand on his shoulder.

"I know." He says looking back at me.

"Than don't worry about her. This is survival, put yourself first every once in a while." I say as I give him a smile.

"Ok fine we can go later." He says with a sigh. I get up and smile again.

I head to the kitchen to see what to eat. When I get there Angela walks in. "Did you hear about my family?" She asks.

"Ya, sorry to hear." I say grabbing a box of generic graham crackers.

"You'll always be here for me right?" She asks.

"I don't know." We didn't get along, and I didn't want to give her false hope while she was hurting.

She gives me a tight hug, "please be here for me I need you."

I sigh and hold her as she hugs me. I wasn't going to push her away after seeing her family the way they were. We stand there like that for a bit when Mckenzie walks in. She pauses glaring at me.

"Anthony can I talk to you in private?" She says.

"Why can't you talk to him while I'm here?" Angela says angerly.

"because it doesn't concern you." Mckenzie snaps. She looks back at me and walks out. I look at Angela and give her an I'm sorry look. Than I follow Mckenzie.

When we get to a room and shut the door she whispers, "Are you serious?"

"What did I do?" I whisper back.

She gets close to me glaring, "You was all over her!" She snaps.

"I was comforting her. She hugged me I wasn't going to push her away after what happened." I snapped back.

"She using it for sympathy, can't you see that." She says as she continues to glare at me.

"Her parents died rather she using it for sympathy or not there nothing wrong with me being there for her," I say. I was getting angry from this. Everyone know how I feel about Angela. But I give her one hug bc her parents died and I'm the bad guy.

"Since this whole thing happened, you haven't even thought of your girlfriend." She practically spits the last part at me.

"Until recently I didn't but that only because it painful to think about where she is." I say.

"That no excuse to be all over Angela." She says harshly.

"At least I'm not playing with anyone feelings. Can you say the same?" I say.

"Yes I can." Rage crosses her face. I hold back the urge to smile from pride. I had hit a nerve.

"What do you call what you did to Junior than?" I ask her. I cross my arms and wait for whatever excuse she makes.

"Nothing. We're friends, end of story." She says with a matter of fact tone.

"Not the way I seen it." I tell her.

"It doesn't matter because it not as bad as cheating." That was my final straw.

"I wasn't doing anything inappropriate with Angela. I love my girlfriend with my whole heart I won't move on unless I know she not alive. Your supposed to be my friend but you don't have faith in me. I'm done with this." I start to walk out.

"Wait," She calls. I pause not bothering to look back at her. "It's not that I don't trust you. I just don't trust Angela. I'm just looking out for you." She says quietly.

"I can look out for myself." With that I walk out.

Junior-

"Come on." Anthony says storming out one of the rooms. Mckenzie was behind him and they both look upset.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Nothing important." Anthony says angerly.

I stand up and walk toward him. "Why are you mad?" I ask.

"I'll tell you on the walk." "Anthony states.

We head to the door and Angela comes running up.

"I want to come with." She squeals.

"No." I say.

"Why not?" She gives us the puppy dog look.

"It's not safe." I tell her sternly.

"It's not safe for you either." A tear falls down her face.

"Yes you can come." Anthony cuts in. I look at him confused.

He leans close to me. "It could be a good distraction." he whispers.

I sigh and look back at her. she looked sad but hopeful. I nodded slowly and opened the door.

"Take this." Jace runs up and hands me a walkie talkie.

"Your not going to ask to join." Anthony ask.

"I prefer not to go." He responds casually. He turns and heads back to the living room. After that we head off.

Angela-

On the way to family dollar Anthony and Junior was in a deep conversation. I had tried to cut in countless times but Anthony made it clear he didn't want me apart of it. I kept looking at our surroundings seeing if I could find anyone. I really wanted someone who would talk and joke with me. Who would whisper to me and tell me secrets. Someone that wouldn't make me feel so alone.

We get to family dollar and look around. "I would expect to see at least one zombie." Junior says as he looks around. For a zombie apocalypse there wasn't any form of life or death around. The town was bare.

"Nothing can bother us than." I say. I walk into family dollar and look around. The place was almost bare.

"Looks like some fatties were hungry." Anthony says frustrated.

"I bet it was this new leader who claimed this town." Junior suggest as he looks around.

"Anthony sighs surveying the aisles. "If the leader took all the cheetos I'm going to kill him."

Junior laughs " so he can release zombie after us and your not worried. But he takes cheetos and it's war." He laughs harder after he says it.

"You know me so well." Anthony chuckles.

I look around and I find a small bag of cheez puffs. "How about these?" I ask.

Anthony runs up and snatches them out of my hands. "Perfect." He says smiling.

As we head out me and Anthony notice Junior heading to another store instead of back home.

"What are you doing?" Anthony calls.

"Looking for a*****e they haven't touched." Junior yells back.

We run up and walk next to Junior, if one of us goes, we all go.

Mckenzie-

I was fuming with rage. It hasn't been a full week and he already going for another girl. I get Angela having a hard time, but she wasn't the only one. I look over at Emily hugging Brandon as he cries for the second time today. Anthony hasn't even bothered to talk to him and see if he was ok. If he really cared like he claimed, he would be there for them two also.

I sigh and head to the room we argued in. I care about what best for him, more than I should. Why can't he just see that? Angela not someone he should move on to. He can do way better than her.

"You ok?" Jace peeks his head in and we make eye contact. I instantly feel my cheeks go red and I look down.

"I'm fine." I say avoiding eye contact.

He walks in and stand close to me. "You don't have to lie to me. I'm you K.B remember?"

I smile and look up at him, "I had a disagreement with Anthony. It's no big deal." I turn away, I don't want him to see the hurt I feel right now.

"What was it about." I hear him ask.

"I'm worried he moving on from his girlfriend." I say slowly turning back to him.

"and your surprised." Jace says casually.

"Yes." I tell him in frustration.

He moves to the bed and sits down. "Tell me all about it than." He says patting the spot next to him?

"Why?" I ask.

"I want to understand it from your point of veiw." He says giving me a welcoming smile. I blush and sit next to him. He felt warm beside me, before I knew what I was doing I was resting my head on his shoulder. He put his arms around me and scooted closer.

I went into detail about what I saw. I told him about our argument and about how I feel about it. "What worse is he took Angela with him. I heard Junior say no but Anthony said yes." I look up at him. He was looking at the wall and he looked like he was thinking.

"Anthony hasn't given her a second glance since we joined you guys. I haven't gotten any indication that he likes her." He says.

"I know, but I also know him." I say quietly.

"I'll keep an eye on him. I'll make sure he doesn't get with her." He says. He looks down at me and kisses my forehead. "I'm sorry." He says looking surprised by what he did.

"It's ok." I tell him blushing. I stand up and walk out to the living room. Jace follows and moves to the couch next to Emily. A hint of jealousy sparks in me. We just had a moment in there. I was sure of it. Yet he went to sit next to her.

A knock on the door echoes the house. I walk over and answer it.

"May I come in." Sawyer says with a smirk.

I frown at him "no." I say.

"Well I guess u don't want your friends." Sawyer says with a exaggerated sigh.

Logan walks into the living room and froze. "Sawyer?" He says sounding hopeful.

"Hey I came here for you." Sawyer says walking past me. I shut the door and try to hide my irritation. This was not the time for one of his visits.

"I heard something about our friends." Logan says.

"Ya I'll trade them for you." Sawyer says crossing his arms.

"Are you serious?" Jace says angerly.

"Dead serious." Sawyer says smirking at Jace.

"What if I don't want to go?" Logan ask.

"Than Mr. B kills them." Sawyer says sounding annoyed.

"Mr. B?" I ask.

"The leader." Sawyer states.

I look over at Logan "It could be a trick." I say.

Sawyer walks up until he was inches from my face. "It's not a trap, I would never hurt my brother." He spits out.

"With how crazy you are. I doubt it." I snap back.

"I'll go." Logan cuts in.

"Than I'm going too." I tell Sawyer. Logan wasn't going to that place without me. I didn't trust Sawyer or the leader.

"She not going without me."Jace states.

Sawyer smiles, "Well let's go."

Us four walk out, Emily and Brandon try to follow and I whisper at them, "Stay here we will be back I promise." I whisper. With that we shut the door and step into the black car.
