Chapter 4

Junior-

"What are we going to do?" Angela squeals she runs up and holds me tightly. "I know you'll protect us Junior."

I pat her head and slowly push her from me. Anthony in the back snickering and I get a wicked idea. "If your really scared maybe Anthony will be sweet enough to share a room with you. So your not alone." Anthony quits snickering and glares at me.

"You really think so?" She says excitedly jumping up and down.

"Hell no." Anthony cuts in, "If anything you would be better off in Junior room."

"He already got a roommate." Mckenzie says crossing her arms.

"So Anthony it is." I say.

"How about we quit being childish and just sleep in our own room." Jace looks at us annoyed before heading to the school.

"Where are you going?" Anthony calls over to him. "To get my mom body and bury her." Jace yells back.

Anthony looks at us and says, "I'm going to help him." Than he takes off.

"Same." Angela says before running next to anthony. In the distance we see Angela wrap her arms around Anthony. He looks at her before he hits her arms away.

"Someone desperate for a boyfriend." Mckenzie huff.

"Now we know even the end of the world couldn't change her." I say as I sigh.

She laughs and starts walking to the school. "Let's go help Jace." She grabs my hand and we walk to the school together.

Jace-

I walk in to two zombies in the hallway. They notice me and run towards me. Anthony walks up from behind me and hands me a knife.

"Go for the head." He charges at one and stabs his head. "fu*k." He says desperately trying to pull out the knife from the skull. The other grabs him and I run up and punch in in the jaw. He lunges at me and I shove my knife in its eyeball and push the blade up so it goes into the brain. I look over at Anthony who just got the blade out.

"You welcome." I tell him.

He Jumps up and down in a mocking way. "I knew You'll protect us. My hero."

I laugh and turn to see Angela glaring at Anthony.

"I don't talk like that." She says storming past me and Anthony.

We follow her to the room I was in.

"Why didn't you tell me this was you mom?" she asks.

"It wasn't your business." I respond. I pick up my mom feet and anthony picks up her shoulders.

"I can help." Junior says walking in.

"Dig the hole than." Anthony says. we walk out of the room carrying my mom. Despite the look Junior had he didn't respond to Anthony. Instead Mckenze whispers in his ear and they walk off hand in hand back to the house.

"So are they together?" I ask. I still had feelings for her but before the sickness happened, we never worked out. I wasn't expecting us to now but seeing her with Junior made my heart ache.

"No, one of them would've mentioned it if they was." Anthony says.

"How would you feel if they did?" I ask him. I wasn't sure if he liked her, but I wanted to know.

"As long as they treat eachother right. Who cares." He states. we get outside and carry her to where Junior had just started digging.

"I found a spare." Mckenzie says coming outside holding a extra shovel. I walk up to her and put my hand out.

"I can do it jace. You can go inside and relax. Carrying her here must feel bad." She was right. It did feel bad. But it wouldn't help me until I know her body was in the ground and she was at peace.

"I want to do this." I say putting my hand farther out. she slowly hands me the shovel.

"Do you want help?" She asks me looking at Junior.

"Ya I could use Junior help." I say walking over and digging dirt out of the hole.

"Ok I'll see you both inside than." We both look at her and nod. she walks back into the house with Anthony and Angela following her. This was the perfect time to talk to Junior about him and Mckenzie.

Emily-

I miss people so much. I miss my little brother too. My older brother Brandon and I ran home after the incident at the school. We tried to look for Brian but we couldn't find him. I was so worried about him. He was always a trouble maker but he a had a good heart and he was protective of me.

When we got home our mom and dad wasn't home. We would've went to look for them but the sick was outside. They would come home eventually I was sure of it.

"Hey if there not back by tomorrow we should head over to our aunts to see if their there." Brandon said. Me and my brother looked alike we had curly black hair and brown eyes. Plus our skin was a beautiful mocha color. He was in football and was starting to get muscles. Going to school with him everyday I had to witness different girls flirting with him. It grossed me out.

"I'm tempted to go today." I say with irritation. Where could they be? Were they dead?

"I'm not going till tomorrow. So if you go I'll pray for you." He walks back to his room.

I sigh, why was he always complicated. "Fine I'll wait till tomorrow." With that the conversation ended.

Junior-

As we dig, Jace keeps making small talk. I could tell there was something on his mind and I was waiting for him to ask.

"So I was wanting to ask you..." Here it is. "What going on with you and Mckenzie?" Jace pauses his digging and looks at me.

"Nothing." I say. I feel like there is, but when I asked her out; she said she wasn't ready.

"Oh so she single?" He asked me with curiosity.

"Ya I guess so." I wanted to tell him we had something going on. I was so tempted to say that we have a connection he wouldn't understand.

"Ok." That was it; the rest of the time we dug in silence.

After it was done we picked up her body and put her in the hole. We added the dirt back in it and started walking towards the house.

A semi with a trailer pulls up and a guy that looked familiar jumps out.

"Hey Junior I heard alot about you." He grins at me. He Has dirty blonde and straight hair. His eyes are brown and he's tan. Plus a few inchs shorter than me.

"Sawyer. What a way to make a entrance. Didn't know you knew how to drive a semi." The way Jace talks he doesn't trust him.

"Jace I wouldn't be me without a good entrance. Plus I brought your group a gift." Sawyer pats the the trailer. I hear growls and my eyes go wide.

"Sawyer this isn't funny." Jace says. He looks worried.

Sawyer laughs and walks up to us. "Go get your pals. I'll wait for 5 minutes.".

I walk over to jace. "You know him better so you stay here with him." I hurry off to the house.

Mckenzie-

Junior rushes In, "I want you guys to come outside but get ready to run."

"Why?" Anthony asked.

"Sawyer here and he got zombies in a trailer." Junior says.

"I've seen inside a trailer that can't be alot." Angela says in a matter-of-fact tone.

"It's a semi trailer." Junior states. "Plus we should go, like now."

We all head out and Sawyer smiles at us. "Welcome guys. I was waiting for you."

He walks up to me and gently grabs alittle of my hair. I move my head away from him and he laughs.

"I was admiring your hair. The color looks good on you." He walks towards Junior who glaring at him. "I promise you I wasn't making a move on your girl."

"Can you tell us what you want?" I say trying to hide the irritation in my voice.

"I have a group. We have alot of people, doctors, and cooks. We're cleaning the town out of those things and than we're going to build a wall. The leader invited you to join us." Sawyer preaches like the place was going to be magical. But considering what he brought us. I would say he not really offering. He telling us to join him, or else.

"Anyone from school?" Angela ask.

"Yes any that survived." Sawyer says. Angela looks at us with hope in her eyes.

"Can we go guys please?" She walks over to Junior and waits for his answer.

"I'm not going until I hear the catch to this paradise." Junior says looking at Sawyer.

"You just follow the rules and do as your told." Sawyers says crossing his arms. "So what do you say?"

"No." Juniors glares at him.

"Are you serious? I'm giving you the chance of a lifetime." Sawyer says shocked. I swear I was mistaken but I swore I saw a hint of fear.

"I'm not going. If the others want to; they can." Junior crosses his arms and looks at us.

"Me either. If you didn't bring that trailer here maybe I would say yes." Jace states.

"I'm not leaving because I don't trust you enough." I say.

Anthony thinks for a bit and sighs, "Junior and Jace might be a pain but I'm not ditching them." Anthony says. He walks over to Junior and gives him a fist bump.

We all look at angela who sighs dramatically. "I could never leave my friends. Who knows what they will do without me.'

Sawyer sighs, "If that the case I would start running if I was you." He walks over to the trailer and opens it. A mob of zombies come pooling out and towards us. We all start running not looking back.

We get past the park run by some houses and hide in a small white one.

We sit there listening to them hurry past the house.

"That wasn't nice." Angela says out of breath.

"I don't think he intended it to be." Jace says.

Junior sits next to me and puts his arm around me. "You ok?"

I snuggle into him and nod. My eyes were feeling heavy and I close them. I just need to rest my eyes for 5 minutes.

Anthony-

Jace had asked me if Junior and Mckenzie was dating. I told him no because I assumed they would tell me if they was. However it seemed I was wrong. Junior and Mckenzie was on the couch sleeping. Mckenzie had fallen asleep first and Junior did a little after.

"I can't believe he falls for her over me." Angela whispers. She was watching them. Judging the look she has on her face. She was fighting the urge to get between them.

"Believe it or not. Your not the hottest girl alive." Jace tells her.

"I might as well be" Angela rolls her eyes and goes to the kitchen. She looks around and settles for a can of of ravioli.

I walk in and grab one myself. "You realize Junior doesn't like you like that. Right?"

"Of course I do. Everytime I make a move he rejects me." She huffs annoyed by my question.

"You have to understand why he would go for someone else than." I tell her. "None of us want you the way you want us. You will find someone though."

She nods taking a bite of her food. "I hope he's hot." She tells me.

We all Make sure the curtain closed for the night. Junior and Mckenzie still cuddled up and asleep. I head off to the room, me and Jace decide to share a room and the other room would go to angela.

"Do not go on my side." Jace says putting some pillows in the middle of the bed.

I lay down and instantly feel the drowsiness weighing on me. Whatever Sawyer has planned I wanted my strength to be ready. I close my eyes; relax my body; and go to sleep.
