Cora's POV
I stood speechless, I didn't know if I was to apologize or go down on my knees and cry. He looked at me with a smile that made me even more afraid.
“Prince Darius, they are waiting,” The man voiced.
“I will be right there,” He responded.
He turned to look at me and with a smile, he uttered, “I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts Cora,”
“Thank…thank you…Prince Darius,” I stuttered. He just smiled as he walked away. My body fidgeted and my legs became numb.
“There you are!” Lily exclaimed loudly as she grabbed hold of my hand.
“Madam Equisite is going to kill you for abandoning chores. She had screaming her eyes out, let's go!”
I walked thoughtlessly behind her as I recalled my experience with the Prince.
“Lily, I have to tell you something,” I murmured as we counted the dish wares.
“Wrong timing, Cora; if we are incorrect with the figures with even one, we are going to receive hell from the old hag,” Lily replied with her focus on the glass plate she was counting.
“I met Prince Darius,”
My words made her freeze, she turned to me slowly with her jaw dropped and eyes widened.
“Are you sure you didn't just meet a gardener? I was told the gardeners are really hot in the mansion,”
“Yes, I am sure. It was him, we talked and then he left,”
“Wait! Hold your paws, you talked to the Prince? Prince Darius of this Pack? And you conversed with him? Like with words?” She questioned with a shocked expression on her face.
“Yes! That's what I am saying.” I blurted out.
“I have known you for seventeen years, and not once have you lied to me. You better not be f*****g with me right now,” She growled.
So what did you guys talk about? Did you touch him?” Her curiosity made us stop our chores as we began to chat.
“No, I didn't touch him. As for what we talked about, that's where it got a little dicey. I might have called him out as a rich brat,” I whispered with a voice filled with guilt.
“You insulted him!” She yelled, drawing the attention of everyone around us.
“You met the golden boy of Silver Pack and the first thing that came out of your lips were insults! Are you cursed?!”
I held her mouth shut and then tried to explain myself, “Relax Lily, I didn't know he was the Prince at first. He was moving furniture like a handyman. So, I took a look and saw that he was hot, then I proceeded to make a conversation,”
“Get your cursed hand away from me. Your excuse is bull, why will you even use that to start a conversation with a hot guy?”
“I didn't know…”
“You two are miscreants, insignificant little fools that I just don't know how to get rid of!” Madam Equisite seethed.
“I told you to have those wares counted and what did you do? You sat there with your ugly-looking faces and decided to gossip,”
“I am sorry madam, we will be on it as soon as we can,” I apologized and pulled on Lily to continue counting.
“You better!” She exclaimed angrily.
The mansion was getting crowded as dignitaries and wealthy families flocked in. We were instructed to hand over glasses of champagne to the people and also make sure those glasses never ran dry.
It was a stressful job but we didn't dare complain because it's the only thing that will secure a roof over our heads.
“There they are, the Gerrards,” one of the omegas pointed at the people who walked in. “You wouldn’t want to be caught in their trap, they are the deadliest werewolves alive,”
Alpha Curtis Gerrard was the alpha of the Golden Moon pack and was also the most terrifying alpha to had ever walked the earth. And beside him was someone just as terrifying, his daughter Princess Tiara.
Everyone was aware of the relationship she had with Prince Darius and we had no doubt in mind that she was going to be picked that day.
“Alpha Curtis, old friend!” Alpha Damien exclaimed loudly as he walked up to greet his guest.
“What a lovely party you have here, Damien; it's nice.” Alpha Curtis remarked with a smile on his face.
“It's lovely to see you again Princess Tiara,” Alpha Damien acknowledged with a gentle bow.
“It is lovely to be seen, Alpha Damien. So please, where is my lovely Darius?” She asked with pride in her voice.
I stared at them between the champagne glasses in my tray. I knew it was rude but I couldn't help myself.
I decided to move closer, but my eyes quickly met his frightening gaze and before I could escape, Alpha Curtis gripped my hand firmly.
“Do I know you, child?” He asked with a deep voice that made chills run through me.
“No…no…sir, Alpha,” I stuttered in fear as I felt their gazes on me. I had never felt so embarrassed in my life and I couldn't stop shivering.
“Relax child, you just look really familiar,”
“Daddy, let go of the peasant, and you get me a drink,” Princess Tiara commanded, and I nodded in response.
“Here you go,” I handed a drink to Princess Tiara and left hurriedly but I still noticed him staring at me.
“Come here,” Lily pulled me to a corner.
“Did you cast a spell or something? I know you are beautiful but how are you doing it?”
“Doing what?” I inquired.
“How are you scoring them? First a prince, now an alpha. How are you doing it?” She responded with more questions that made me incoherent.
I was about to respond when someone patted me on my shoulder. I turned to the direction, only to be met with a figure that had me spilling the drinks in my hand.
With fright, I fell to my knees to wipe the floor and his shoes.
“I am sorry Prince Darius, I lost myself,”
“Cora! What did you do?” Lily muttered as she handed a napkin to me.
“Darius, baby! Is this peasant bothering you?” Princess Tiara asked.
“Will you clean up this mess at once!” She yelled, causing a scene that made everyone look in our direction.
“Is something the matter princess?” Madam Equisite walked towards us. Her voice made my fear worsen because I figured she might finally kick me out of the Omega shelter for my mistake and I had no place to go, omegas don’t get paying jobs.
“Yes, your slave does not know how to behave around nobles. She spilled a drink on my baby,”
“Tiara, that's enough!” Darius exclaimed before walking away.
“See what she caused,” Tiara pointed at Darius who walked to the great table.
“Now my baby is pissed at me,”
“I am so sorry she will…”
Tiara stopped Madam Equisite's apology with a wave of her hand as she walked past us.
“You are going to ruin my livelihood. You are lucky I knew your mother, I would have thrown you out right now!” My madam growled at me angrily.
I couldn't stand up, I felt too ashamed to raise my head. My body wouldn't stop shivering as tears escaped my eyes.
“Okay, everyone, settle down,” Alpha Damien ordered and immediately silence fell in the room.
“It is time for my son to announce his future Luna,”
“Thank you, Father, I want to say thank you all for coming today. It's with great pleasure that I introduce my bride,”
Tension filled the room as families who knew that there was no hope for their daughters to be called held their breath and crossed their fingers for a miracle.
“Cora,” His voice echoed in the hall.
At first, I was stunned that he chose someone that had a similar name to me. But my shock turned to panic when I looked up and saw him pointing at me.
