Cora's POV
After fleeing the halls and going to my hiding spot back in Madam Equisite's shop. My mind recollected what happened repeatedly. And each time, I was overwhelmed by fear as to what the consequences might be.
It was the following morning and I didn't plan on stepping out of my secret bunker until I was sure I could handle the heat of the situation .
“Cora, get out of there!” Madam Equisite yelled from outside the closet.
Curious to know how she knew about my secret spot, I stretched out my head to respond.
“How did you know about my secret closet?”
“Child, I built this place, and besides, that was where your mother hid back in the day,” She said as she sat down beside me.
“That's us, generations of Omega. Born to live our life like peasants and die like one,” I uttered weakly with my hand on my cheek to support my head.
*Yeah, you are your mother's child. Troublesome but also smart, she helped me bring life to my shop,” She spoke with a heavy voice. Her eyes looked teary as she smiled at me.
“Does that mean you don't hate me?” I asked with a smirk.
“Oh, I hate you with my soul Cora. You are the worst I have ever had, emphasis on the worst,” She replied.
Her response mademe chuckle as I relaxed my back on the wall, “Madam Equisite, what am I going to do? I am scared that the Gerrards would come for me and I won't be able to defend myself because I have nothing,”
“Don't be silly, child,” She said with a warm smile.
“The Goddess planned all of this. You might think things are bad, but you're favored.”
“Favorite? I am to be a target to a vicious pack. I don't see that as a favor,” I opposed her statement.
“Do you know where I found you? In your mother's house,” She confessed with her head lowered to avoid my gaze.
“What? I thought you said someone brought me outside before the fire,”
“No one did. I came too late, and I found you beside her burnt corpse. Alive and well,” She responded.
“What? I was in the house during the fire. How is that possible?”
“I don't know, and I couldn't explain it either; that's why I lied to you. I always thought you would be able to find your mate early enough so that you can build a life for yourself. But since you don't have a wolf, I have no clue how to start helping you,” She exhaled deeply.
“So, I am truly weird; everyone gets their wolf when they are eighteen, but not me. I am twenty-one and still haven't had my wolf yet,” I blurted out.
“The children with royal blood turn twenty-two before they exhibit their wolf. Are they weird? No mija, they are special and you might just be too,” She tried to make me feel better.
“Now enough talking, go out there and do your chores,”
“Please don't let me go out there, I will do them at night when everyone is asleep,” I pleaded with my knees on the floor.
“We are wolves, not f*****g vampires; go out there and do your chores. Now!” She growled and pulled on my hand.
For an old lady, she did have a lot of strength. She succeeded in pulling me to the kitchen where the others had already started their chores.
“Cora!” Lily called out loudly and ran to hug me. “I looked everywhere for you, you had me worried,”
“I'm sorry I had to leave, I couldn't stay,”
Lily and I were one of the oldest in the omega shop. She stayed that long by choice because she kept turning down every suitor that came her way, claiming it was because she was waiting for the perfect one.
“Cassie! Take over, I will be back,” she commanded a younger girl as she held my hand and pulled me into Madam Equisite's garden.
“How are you holding up?” She asked as her grip around me tightened softly. “I am really worried about you, and it's all that Prince’s fault. You see that’s my problem with men, always finding a way to f**k things up,”
“Its okay, Lily. I will be fine. It's just that I have so many things bothering me, and I have no idea how to start handling them,” I confessed and exhaled heavily to lighten the weight on my chest.
“Like what? Share them and maybe I might be able to help with some,” She moved closer to me with a smile on her face.
“I am tired of this shop!” I exclaimed loudly with pain in my heart.
“I need to go out there and stand on my own two feet. Bless the Goddess that the Madame put us through high school, we would have been illiterate by now,”
“Am I not enough for you?” she asked with a look and a voice that almost made me feel that she asked a serious question.
“What?” I remarked as I backed away from her.
“Relax, I am just messing with you,” Her countenance changed, and she drew me closer to her again.
“So what is the plan?”
“I don't know and I am in a huge mess. Tiara would come for my head and I have no power to fight her,” I shared.
I knew talking about it wouldn’t help but I just needed a way to reduce the pressure I was feeling.
“It's going to be okay, Cora. I will be by your side always,” Lily cooed softly as she leaned towards me.
I didn’t notice what she was trying to do until she had already done it. Her lips collided with mine as she kissed me.
My eyes widened with shock and I had no idea how to react. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to push her away or go with it.
I was still thinking when the sound of someone approaching made her stop. I stood up in panic and moved away from her, as I stared at her with in uttered confusion.
“Cora, let me explain,” she tried reaching me but I didn’t let her. I turned to walk away but I was faced with another problem that I had planned to avoid.
“Hi, Cora,” Darius whispered with deep, soothing voice.
“Can we talk?” He asked.
“Yeah, we can, Prince Darius,”
“Not here, come with me to the mansion,” He demanded with a smile.
My heart leaped in shock as I found myself heading back to the den I was supposed to be running from.
