Chapter 5 Emily

I ran and ran, heading to a direction I knew all to well. I'm not sure how long or how far I ran, I just knew I didn't tire from running. Maybe that's the vampire in me.

The only person I knew that didn't have a part in all this, or the person I hope didn't have a part in this, my best friend Emily, she must know what I should do next. She always knows what to do. She lives in the next town over and it's amazing to me I can run there so easily and yet, by car it takes over an hour to get to where she lived. I needed to see her, I know she'll help me.

As I ran I felt the wind breeze so nicely on my face. It was sunset and I can see where I was going so perfectly. I felt so light and did not even trip over anything or hesitate when I saw tree limbs hanging down or Fallen trees, I ducked and jumped gracefully with speed when needed to. Oh, I love this, maybe being a vampire isn't all that bad at all.

Finally I made it to the town where my friend lived, she lived near the outskirts and I had to walk from here because there were no longer trees to cover me. It was a short walk, like 10 minutes to her place. I know by now she be home from school or work.

As I walk down her dirt road driveway, I saw her 06 Chevy Malibu parked out front and the lights inside her house were on. She had a nice 3 bedroom bungalow to herself. She grew up rich but never showed it off. She didn't want to be defined in money but with intelligence instead. I know she'll be shocked when I show up like this, I look down at myself and saw mud splashes all over my legs and shoes, even my long hair came undone and had small twigs and tangles in it. I cringe. I'm a mess.

I quickly knocked on the door and tried unsuccessfully to fix my hair as she opened the door and dropped her smile when she saw me, "Oh my god, what happened? Come in, I'll get you something to drink." She grabbed me and pulled me in so fast.

She gestured for me to sit down at the table while she got the tea kettle going. "Davina, ate you okay? Wait stupid question. I know your not, but I'll pour us a cup and you can tell me what's up."

I fiddled with my finger nails as I watched her getting our teas ready, I'm glad she's making tea right now, it'll keep her calm on what I'm about to tell her. She sat down and handed me my cup and I take a small sip letting the warmth flow through

my body, I opened my eyes looking her in her green eyes I said, "Do you believe in Vampires and Werewolves?" I just blurted out, thinking I'd just come out and just say it.

She frowned and took a sip of her tea, she said, "A few days ago, I would have said no, but I was going to tell you my experience I just had couple days ago."

I leaned in, "What happened couple days ago?" I asked curious.

"I went to this psychic, I know what your going to say, they like to scam people money just to tell them what they want to hear." she stops to take another sip, "Anyway, I went in and was going to ask her if I'll ever meet my prince charming. She grabbed my hand to read my palm but our hands glowed purple. Like bright purple. I couldn't believe it, even when I let go of her hands both of my hands glowed purple and then she tells me then and there that I'm a witch. I told her not to play around, she shook her head and showed me her coven and they also did magic, like real magic. They then told me they are not the only beings out there, they told me vampires exist, and werewolves, even Fairies but they're well hidden." she paused looking at me squinting her eyes, "Your not surprised." She didn't say it as a question.

"Its kind of why I'm here." I tell her taking a sip of tea, I love this tea, "What is this by the way? it's real good."

"Chamomile tea, so spill." she leans in curiously. "I'm so excited we're learning about this otherworld stuff nearly the same time."

I half smile at her response, because I'm relieved she has no idea what I'm about to tell her, plus I'd be really upset if she already knew, so I went on telling her everything I learnt and told her about Hardin and Jake, I told her what my sister told me, basically everything up until now. As I was telling her I began shaking and crying. At one point she came and gave me a hug.

I sat there finishing off my tea while she boiled more water for more tea, "Oh my gosh. I'm so very sorry you went through all that, I wish I could have been there with you."

"Your here now, well. I'm here now and I feel so much better being here with you. I have no idea what I'm going to do now." I sighed, "Also knowing I'm not even real blood with Alley, that really hurts."

She gave my second cup of tea, and said, "Yeah but, has Alley ever treated you different all your life?"

I shook my head taking a sip.

"See? You have nothing to worry about with your relationship with your sister, she's still your sister and I know she loves you." Emily said as she sat down.

"I know but, she lied to me. More like, she refused to tell me the truth." I told her.

"True, well you can take your time to forgive her and you can stay here with me as long as you want. Or until you figure out what your going to do." she paused tapping her chin, "Wait, what are you going to do about Hardin and Jake?" she asked.

I sighed again, "I have no idea. I know if Jake didn't bother me, I'd probably be with Hardin again."

She smiled, "But Jake?"

I rolled my eyes, "Well Jake is sweet, kind, and so sexy, and has that mysterious look about him that drives me wild. Hardin on the other hand, makes me feel alive and free and also gets under my skin all the time, he's always been my best friend first over my boyfriend and he knows me well and he always tells me as it is, even when I don't ask him to and you know him too."

She smiled, "Yeah I do, it's Jake I don't know at all."

"Well, before me, he was in this serious relationship with this girl who was madly in love with him, but he wasn't in love with her and he didn't realize it until he was talking about it with me, then he just decided to break up with her, the next day or was that the same day.. I can't remember, anyway, I got attacked by that bear and he stayed close to me and never leaving my side until I was better but even then, he couldn't help but be by my side. To be honest, I loved having him near me, but I can't help but feel that, I needed him near me because of the missing piece I felt when Hardin disappeared and now I'm so confused. I like Jake a lot and he's a good kisser." I smiled thinking about it.

She Squealed and clapped her hands, "You didn't tell me you guys kissed!"

Then I shyly told her what we did in the room when he lifted me making out with me until Zack interrupted us and ruined our moment.

"So, you cake close to almost doing it!" she clapped again laughing.

I blushed knowing she ment s*x, "Nooo."

"Oh come on! If Zack hadn't busted in on you both, I believe you would have gave him everything you have." she did a little wiggle in her seat sticking out her tongue. I slapped her arm and laughed with her.

After laughing hysterically, She cleared her throat, "Get some sleep, I'll give you clothes for a shower."

"Alright." I said and followed her to where her bathroom wad down the hall to the left. She pointed to a room on the far left and said, "That'll be your room while your here, Mine is on the other side of the livingroom." I went out to the livingroom and saw another door to the side by the couch. That must be her room. I went back to the hallway where she was getting me towels, "Here, and you'll have this bathroom" she opened the door for us and the light, "to yourself while your here, I have my own bathroom beside my room." she smiled at me then, and I saw just the basic Bathroom shower in one. and sink and toilet to the side. Small and simple.

She handed me clothes and said, "I gotta get up around 5 am to get ready for my exercises then at 7 am I head out to work. I'll be back around lunch and then head to the school by 12:30 and I'll be back around 4:30 or 5 ish. depending on traffic."

I nodded, "Awesome, I know when to make lunch for ya and when to cook supper for you."

she smiled and hugged me, "See I knew you staying here will be good for me." she giggled.

Which made me giggle I hugged her back, "You nerd, good night."

"Joking, really happy your here, good night Davina." She said and walked away and into her room.

I quickly jumped in the shower to wash off all the mud I ran in on the way here. I got out to brush my very tangled long black hair. My eyes blue eyes looked dull and sad and also puffy from all the crying I did. After I brushed my hair I put on the shorts and tank top that Emily gave me, they were a little tight being that Emily is more smaller and more slim than I am. While I am a bit taller and have bit more of a curve.

I go straight to bed and had a dreamless sleep.

I woke up deep in thought. Hmm I had no idea vampires can still sleep. I gotta try learn more about them, the only way I can learn is if I talk to Hardin. Maybe he should be the one I should at least call. He did tell me the truth, but he also had his reason for not telling me right away was because he recently just got free and he came to me right away. As for Jake, he literally promised to never lie to me which was a lie the moment he said it. As for my own sister, she lied to me or kept the truth from me all my life. It's going to take a little longer to trust either of them. The fact that Jake is a Werewolf also surprised me and that he hid it from me, but I can take a wild guess that Alley and Zack must have told him to do it.

I made up my mind to call Hardin, but I know there's no phone at that cabin. I didn't even ask if he had a cellphone. I groaned and laid back down. I gotta call home.

I get out of the room when it was 8:00am. So, Emily must be gone to her morning shift. I'll make lunch around 11:20.

I grabbed the cordless phone from the windowsill and head to my bedroom and dialed the number to home. Jake answered the phone immediately, "Davina?" he asked into the phone.

I cringe, "Hi Jake, is Hardin around?"

He sighed, "Yes, but I wanted to explain to you-"

I clenched my fists, "Now you want to explain?! Where's Hardin!" I yelled and I cringed again, I didn't mean to yell, "Sorry, I only want to speak to Hardin."

"Give me the damn phone already Wolf boy." I heard Hardin's voice. "Hi baby."

I rolled my eyes, I know he's just saying that to get Jake jealous, "Hi."

"Where are you Davina? You have us all worried for you, Alley was freaking out and thought I had something to do with you being gone." he said.

I nodded, "Well you kind of did Hardin. If you didn't tell me about my sister, I wouldn't have known."

"I'm sorry for that, I didn't know all this. Alley told me everything about the past.. I got angry with her and Zack and the new guy right away. I told them to leave you be when they got the pack together to go sniff to get you back and follow your trail. I told them you'd call."

I smiled, "You know me too well, thank you for that."

"So, when ya coming home, we got training." he said.

"Actually, I don't want to go home yet, I was calling to ask if you can come here to train me here. Your the only one whose been honest with me, I don't feel right going home just yet. I need time to process what I am and what I'm not." I hugged myself, feeling lonely for my parents and then I felt sad again, knowing they weren't really mine hurt so much. I sniffed and wiped my eyes quickly.

"Of course I'll come, baby, don't cry, just tell me where and I'll be there right away."

I told him where and I told him not to tell everyone else where I was. I blocked the number before I called home anyway.

I went to the washroom and washed up brush my teeth, brushed my hair and didn't bother fixing it at all. I went to the room and put on the skirt she lent me, only to find out that too was to short on me just barely covering my butt and a Spaghetti strap sunflower blouse that just showed a lot of my cleavage. I put my hand to my forehead, of course her chest area is a lot smaller than mine. I'm dressed as a skank. I need my own clothes.

I heard a knock on the door and I felt flutters in my stomach and my heart was pounding. I quickly answered the door and Hardin was standing there with a duffle bag in hand and a backpack attached to his back. He gave me his cocky smile which showed a small simple on his left cheek, his Brown hair a mess and his golden eyes looking me up and down.

I closed my legs and blocked my chest right away, "Huh, her clothes don't fit me and I have nothing else, my other clothes were damaged from the run here." I say awkwardly trying to hide myself but failing as I walked back inside with me.

He kept looking at me and he handed me the duffle bag and said, "I brought these for you, Jake lent me his bag for your stuff, your backpack was too small to fit everything else."

I grabbed the bag from him and ran to the room and pulled out my jeans and favourite black T shirt and hugged them. I immediately took off the skirt and blouse, panties and bra that I couldn't even fit in the first place.

Hardin cleared his throat, I turned around and screamed, I grabbed the blanket to cover up right away, "Hardin!!"

He laughed and said, "What? I was coming in to give you this." He put a piece of paper on the nightstand, "I had no idea you were going to strip off all your clothes right away, usually when that happens people shut the door." he smirked at me.

I blushed holding the blanket close to me, "Okay well, be a gentlemen and give me some privacy please."

"As you wish" he bowed to me and grabbed the door to leave, but before he can leave, he said, "You look good by the way, very beautiful."

"Hardin!" I yelled.

I can hear him laughing at my reaction. This time I ran to the door and locked it. I put on my panties, bra, Jeans and T-shirt. I didn't want to wear socks so I wore my flipflops he brought in the bag.

I walked out fully clothed and folded my arms staring at him, while he was sitting on the couch waiting for me. "You jerk."

He smirked at me, "You knew I was there."

I gasped, "No I did not!"

He rolled his eyes, "Right, you know that body of yours was mine the moment we met."

I opened and closed my mouth, "No it was not. And still isn't yours, it's mine and I'll give it to whoever is worthy." I sat down beside him then.

He held my hand, "I know, I was just teasing, good to know my girl can still stand her ground."

I smiled at him, "So? what happened after I left?"

"After you left, Alley came to me and asked, well demanded to see you, I told her to check out the house and told her you weren't there, then she told me you ran away because you found out you were adopted. She was trying to send a search party for you but I told her you'd make up your own mind and come home whenever your ready. After arguing with her for awhile to get her to call it off she agreed. All we did was sit around near the phone waiting for you. I was a little annoyed that Jake kept the phone on him the whole time." He smiled at me.

"So, Alley has no idea what you are?" I asked him.

He shook his head, "No and I'm guessing you didn't tell her about yourself?"

I looked down and said, "No, I didn't bother, she told me they were all Werewolves."

"Wow, I knew it was something like that, they have a huge pack." he said.

"Yeah, do you know anything about wolves?" I asked him.

"No much, just that, some usually tend to get their wolf between ages 18 to 21 years of age, and most of their abilities are almost like a vampires except they need to be wolves to do them." he shrugged. "But I could be wrong."

"Yeah, Alley was saying that because I didn't have a wolf, she thought maybe I was human, I wouldn't know till my birthday 3 weeks from now."

"Davina, your Birthday is tomorrow." he corrected me.

I sat up straighter, "What? tomorrow? how?" I asked.

"Well today is April 20th, tomorrow is the 21 your birthday." he said.

"Huh, I completely lost track of the days, so much has happened in such short time." I half say to myself.

"Well, we should start your training." he got up still holding my hand.

I looked at the clock it was 11:22 am. I shook my head at him, "I gotta cook for Emily, she'll be home for lunch soon."

"Alright, I'll help." he says while leading the way to the kitchen.

"You think Emily will allow me to stay here for awhile to train you? I'd like to start early." he asks.

"Yeah, you can ask her." I shrugged.

"Why do I gotta she's your friend." he whines.

"She was yours too remember." I stick out my tongue at him while I digged in the fridge for ingredients.

He laughed, "Fine, I'll ask."

We made Ham & Cheese Sandwiches with Romain lettuce, and Grill Chicken Ceasar Salad. By the time we were done, Emily walked in wearing a nursing uniform, she says, "Mmm, smells delicious in here." She saw Hardin and stopped in her tracks, then she smiled at him and gave him a big hug, "Hi stranger!"

"Nice to see you Emily." he said to her.

"Nice to see you too, and nice to see a smile on Davina's face." she commented.

"Yeah, I love her smile." he winks at me, "Emily, I know Davina probably told you about me, and I'm here to help train her, so she doesn't suck the life out of you in your sleep." he chuckled.

Emily's eyes grew wide and so did mine, we looked at eachother right away and Hardin burst out laughing, "I'm kidding guys, But Davina, it's best you feed soon." he said the last part in a more serious tone.

"Would I go hungry crazy and attack anyone?" I asked him.

"Well no. You'd simply fall over and get weak, over time, you'll basically be a starving skeleton unable to move at all untill magically blood drips down your throat." he says this time more seriously.

"Your joking right?" Emily asks.

"No. She'll get weak. She won't die of course, but also the moment there's a small hint of blood in the air, you'll attack whoever it is. So better safe than sorry." He sat down at the already set table and gestured for Me and Emily to do the same, while continuing, "Emily, it's why I am here but also, can I stay a few nights? She really needs the training."

She waved him off, "That's no problem, of course you can stay. By the way what kind of training?" She asked.

He took a bite of his food, "we'll be starting as soon as sun comes up, around 4 am, She has to learn proper Vamp speed, we'll be doing it out in the yard, I already checked the area, no one will see us, you have a nice quiet place here Emily." he says.

"What else can vampires do except for speed and drinking blood?" I asked.

"You'll have strength, and we'll test that out too then, you have to learn to use both strength and speed, can come in handy for a fight." he said and filled him mouth with food.

"Fight? Why would I need to fight?" I said frowning.

He held up a finger, gesturing me to wait while he finishes chewing his food, "Every supernatural creature should learn to defend themselves properly, never know when you might need it and it's important to start training right away after transition, because it'll be harder the longer you let it slide, think of it as having new ice skates.. the longer you don't use them, they stay new and they're harder to use when needed because they're not broken in properly yet, but if you use them right away and just keep wearing them everyday you'll break them in and then they'll perform good on the ice. Plus you still have to know your own strengths and weakness and to work on them equally, make sense?"

I took a deep breath frowning, "That seems a lot. Yeah, I'll do it."

"Anyway that I can help?" Emily asks.

Hardin rubs his chin for a moment thinking, "Yeah, we could use your help with the speed. We need someone normal to Kait stand there and tell me if you see her or hear her, she has to work on stealth."

Emily smiled, "I can do that." then she sat up straighter and faced Hardin who was sitting across from her, "By the way, I'm not fully normal."

He raised and eyebrow, "Oh?"

She smiled and said, "I'm a witch."

His eyes widened, "Wow, I never would have guessed, when did you find out? Can you do anything cool?" He was way too excited now hearing that. I giggled at him.

"I just found out a few days before Davina got here, I still have no idea what I can do, but maybe the training your doing with her will help open something up for me as well." She smiled, looking hopeful.

"I think your right, okay, training time for both of you at 4 am." he smiled at me and I cringed, "What?" he asked.

"Why does it have to be so early?" I whined.

They laughed at me, "Still lazy in the mornings huh?" Hardin teased.

"Yup." I said and took a sip of my orange juice. Then I made a face, it tasted wrong. "This is gross, tastes expired. I spit it back in my cup and took it to the sink to dump it.

"Can't be, I just bought it." Emily grabbed the carton to read it, "Nope it's good till next week."

"You need to feed, you won't be fully Vamp until you fees, your still mostly human." Hardin announced.

"Mostly human? what do you mean?" I asked him.

"Well, when you go through transition when everything in your DNA changes, you get a sick feeling in your stomach and get a massive headache that doesn't last, that's your body changing, also it'll take a break and slow the change, until you drink human blood then the rest will kick in, but before you drink you may get some vampire abilities but they won't show full potential until you drink blood."

"Well, I did run all the way here, it took me 15 minutes." I shrugged.

He raised his eyebrows, "Wow, that's fast, even for a newborn, it took me 10 minutes to get here on foot, You'll be faster than that after the full change."

"Cool." I said.

"Do you know anything about witches Hardin?" Emily asks ad she was putting away her dish.

"Not very much, except witches are strongest on full moons, the same as werewolves. Also some have unique gifts that stand out out of the rest of the magic they can do. I can look up ways to test you?" Says quickly getting up and cleaning the rest of the stuff with his vampire speed.

"Whoa." Emily says, "You can stay as long as you want if you can clean that fast."

I was able to see almost every movement he did, "Were you able to tell what he was grabbing?" I asked Emily.

She shook her head, "No."

"Okay, Good to know." Hardin nods. then looks at me, "Were you able to see?"

I looked at him and smiled, "Yes, you grabbed our plates first, then cups, then-"

"Okay yeah you saw." he interrupted and kissed my nose. I pushed him away.

"You know I hate that!" I shouted at him wiping my nose.

He just laughed.

"Well I gotta get to class and I'm going to take a few days off work and I won't have class again until next week Thursday anyway." She gets up and goes to her room.

Well that's all set now I thought to myself. I'm more excited to train now that Emily is joining us. It feels like old times and I'm loving every moment I spend with them. "I really missed this." I tell Hardin.

"Me too." he takes my hand in his, Let's go talk in the room.

"Okay." I say to him. "But first, I want to see Emily before she leaves." He nodded as I go to her room, I knock on the door but I didn't hear an answer. Frowning, "Em, I wanted to talk to you about something, can I come in?"

I look at Hardin who was frowning, he came beside me, and I knocked again, "Emily?"

I looked at Hardin again worried about her, she always answers, maybe something is wrong. He nodded for me to go ahead. I turned the nob and pushed the door wide open only to find Emily laying on the floor, not moving at all and her eyes were open and they were glowing white.

"Emily!" I shouted and ran towards her, before I can touch her, Hardin grabbed me and pulled me to him, holding me in place. "What are you doing?! she needs my help! We gotta wake her up!" I screamed at him and tried prying myself away from him but it was no use, he was too strong.

"You can't touch her!" he shouted.

"Why not! We gotta help her!" I shouted back.

"She's going through something magical and we can't touch her until it runs its course, take a good look at around her body and you will see. Concentrate Davina. See all the more reason to get you to feed." He argued while holding me tight to him.

I turned my head to him behind me and glared at him and then looked back at Emily and concentrated on seeing what I didn't see. I slowed my breath and stared at her unmoving body in front of me. Her entire body was glowing white, not just her eyes, and I see little electric shocks all around her body moving as if protecting her body from intruders.

I began to relax into Hardin, letting him hold me, his arms around my waist keeping me steady while I stared at her and waited. I have no idea how long we were there watching her, we stayed still, "I've never seen anything like this before. Something definitely happening." Hardin whispered.

Finally Emily opened her eyes and stood up and the electricity around her slowly disappeared but her glow was still there. She looked at us both and then smiled, "I just been accepted into a new coven, my spirit was called to them, I also had a vision and Something is coming for us all." she said.

I put my hand on her shoulder and asked her "What is it? Emily?"
