Letting Go

The single-family European-style villa on the hillside was originally attached to the Kirin Sanatorium, with a large garden and double parking spaces, but when the soie company developed this wooded area, it reserved the one with the best view for the CEO's only daughter. With eighty percent green coverage, a balcony overlooking the entire golf course in the sanatorium and a large ginkgo and fir forest in the back of the mountain, the city can be reached in twenty-five minutes by normal driving, and it takes only five minutes to drive to the airport. Jennifer half-lounged on the set of stressless sofas, which were soft as ocean waves and held her body from sinking in completely. She stared at the briefcase on the coffee table for a moment, roughly yanking it over and ripping the zipper open. The bag contained some documents, wallet. When Lauren had left, he'd only brought his car keys and some cash inside. Jennifer looked through Lauren's text messages and communication records as she had done in the past. She got tired of looking at them before throwing them back into Lauren's bag. She opened his wallet, and on the right side was a row of credit cards, and on the left side was a photo of the two of them together. In the photo she kissed Lauren's face, Lauren smiled, nothing unusual. Jennifer looked at it a few more times, and on a whim, reached out and took out that group photo. She realized that behind the photo there was a small photo, all yellowed. It was cut from some class photo. In the photo Lauren and Ella standing side by side, smiled happily. Dr.Cuis made a strong cup of coffee in his office. The head nurse sat across from him. Dr.Cuis said, "Jennifer is a high-minded, the only daughter of the CEO of SOIE, I didn't realize that the old phase has such a big temper."The head nurse sat on the boss chair, "Don't mention your Jennifer. It's none of our business." But just as he finished speaking, Jennifer twisted the office door open. "I want to see Lauren."Dr.Cuis sighed, picked up the white coat he'd taken off and flung it over his shoulder, hugging Yan shi's shoulder to quiet him down. When they got to the lawn, Lauren and Ella were standing in the corner, so close together that they seemed to be catching adultery. Dr.Cuis whistled, striding over. Jennifer was faster, she running and tugging to turn Lauren's shoulder to turn him around, both froze.Lauren with a slap mark on the right side of his face, expressionless, smiling only when he saw Jennifer. "What's wrong." "Nothing." Lauren reached up and touched the right side of his face. "I said something about us." Suddenly, Jennifer laughed out loud, pushed Lauren hard and hugged him again. She couldn't stop laughing, "Haha, look at you silly." She kept kissing Lauren's chin, greenish-colored scruff, personally shaved for him in the morning. Lauren froze, "Is it that funny?" Dr.Cuis was a bit squirmy in his heart and just laughed along. Instead, it was a few nurses who covered their mouths in the back, an extra slap mark on that serious face would have been an exceptionally comical thing. "Does it hurt? I'll rub the medicine for you later ......" Dr.Cuis was barely smiling when he suddenly saw Ella's expression.Everyone was laughing, image-less hugging together, but she was standing in the corner. She spine straightened, her body trembling. He subconsciously turned his face sideways.Ella is like a needle, stabbed you for a moment, you think that this small pain for a moment will pass, until it is pierced through the time. The wheelchair did not come in handy when he went back and was idle. Ella walked in the forefront, and the sick suit looked wider and wider from behind. She walked unsteadily, but took big steps. Dr Cuis followed closely behind her by a meter, fearing that she might have made a mistake. Two of them followed their front feet into the elevator, Lauren stood outside the elevator and said, "I'll come back up later." The doors slowly closed from both sides, and Ella's line of sight swooped out from the only remaining gap and aimed at Lauren. The red floor numbers climbed upward, but the person seemed to be plummeting downward. After a tense ten-minute wait, Jennifer and Lauren entered the room. Without hesitation, Jennifer knelt beside Ella, her voice trembling yet determined. "Please, let me be with Lauren." Lauren moved to intervene, but Jennifer held onto him, tears streaming down her cheeks. "We fought so hard to be together. You can't imagine what I went through with my family, how much I sacrificed. I've been by his side, caring for him all these years. I can't bear to lose him." She straightened up defiantly. "I know you care for Lauren too, but for me, he's everything. I can't live without him." Ella sat rigidly on the bed, her gaze fixed on the floor. Lauren frowned slightly, standing beside Jennifer. "The past... I haven't forgotten, but it's behind us now." Ella spoke softly, her voice cutting through the tension. "Lauren, come closer." Lauren hesitated, then took a few steps toward her. "What is it?" he asked quietly. Suddenly, without warning, Ella seized the glass fruit bowl and hurled it at him with all her strength. It shattered against the wall with a violent crash. "Do you think I wanted any of this? Was it my fault? I looked forward to seeing you every day. I couldn't bear the thought of being apart from you. Do you think I wanted this accident?" The hospital room fell into a stunned silence, broken only by the steady drip of an IV. Ella gasped, sinking back against the pillows. "I didn't want to die. When I woke up, I realized... you regret saving me." "Tell me the truth, Lauren. Did you wish I hadn't woken up?" Lauren's expression faltered, a crack appearing in his stoic facade. Ella lunged at him, intent on hitting him, but Jennifer and the nurse intervened, chaos erupting in the room. Glass shards littered the floor, reflecting the harsh hospital lighting. Outside, the air conditioning hummed softly, a contrast to the emotional turmoil within. "Jennifer, perhaps we should talk in my office," Dr. Cuis suggested, attempting to steer the situation away from further confrontation. Jennifer nodded reluctantly, torn between wanting answers and sensing the need to handle the situation delicately. She glanced at Lauren, who was avoiding Ella's stare with a sense of unease. "I'll be back," Lauren murmured as the elevator doors opened onto the corridor of the sanatorium. He followed Jennifer and Dr. Cuis to the doctor's office, where they settled into a tense discussion about what had transpired. Meanwhile, Ella remained on the upper floor, her thoughts racing. She knew something had changed between her and Lauren since Jennifer's arrival. Gripping the railing, she fought back tears, trying to understand the implications of what she had seen. Back in the office, Dr. Cuis listened attentively as Jennifer recounted her discovery and her confrontation with Lauren. He offered reassurance and guidance, aware of the delicate balance between personal and professional boundaries in such a close-knit environment. After they left, Dr. Cuis sat back in his chair, taking a sip of tea as the head nurse sighed beside him. "It's been years," she murmured. Dr. Cuis nodded solemnly. "Yes, it has. I remember when I was just a young intern here. Lauren came rushing in, carrying Ella in his arms, covered in blood and tears. It's been many years, but some things never fade."
