I took a deep breath. “Dad, I have no intention of drinking, but I promise if I turn into a belligerent drunk, I’ll call you to drive my drunken butt home, okay?” I said, walking over to hug them and kiss them both good-bye.  “Happy New Year’s, honey,” my dad said, kissing me on the cheek. My mom smiled as I stepped over to hug her. “You look beautiful, but you need to start eating more; you look like you’re losing some weight, and you don’t want to lose that awesome butt you inherited from me,” she said, laughing. “Ugh, Mom, trust me—I haven’t lost even close to enough weight, and thanks for the compliment, but you know you don’t count because you’re a parental unit,” I said.
