Midnight Love

Chapter 5

'I can explain!' says the woman with the three kittens. I go straight to the kittens and begin petting them because they are so adorable. Eunji enters the room and exhales deeply. 'Binna! 'What are you up to?' She questioned. Eunji and Binna both stared at me. 'I'm Jia, the new journalist at k-news,' They both burst out laughing. For a brief moment, I was unsure whether I had said something incorrectly. 'I must apologize! 'My name is Binna, and I'm in charge of the K-news south section,' she explained politely.

While petting the kittens, Eunji begins to laugh. 'You'll get used to it,' she assured me. I'm not sure what she means, but I think I know what she means. Binna appears to be a young woman, not the typical boss. 'Eunji! 'Could you show me Jia's office?' Binna stated. Eunji nods and takes my hand in hers. 'All right, so you just met our boss. Not what you expected, was it?' She questioned. I nodded and laughed. 'Actually, you're right, I had other expectations,' I admitted. Eunji begins to laugh. 'Binna is actually the daughter of the k-news boss. And after she graduated, she was offered the job of being in charge of the south section,'

'Wow! That's really cool! 'I wasn't expecting a boss my age,' I explained. Eunji escorted me to my office and explained everything to me. I have a lovely office with a lovely view. 'My office is right next to yours, so we can talk all day,' Eunji joked. I chuckled and sit in my chair. I pull out my laptop and sit down. Eunji tells me she's going to the bathroom and then walks away. I take a deep breath and gaze out the window at the breathtaking scenery.

I can't believe this is my life now, working for my dream company. I close my eyes and reopen them to ensure that this is not a dream. When I open my eyes, I see Eunji standing in front of me. 'You are already sleeping,' she laughed. I nodded and looked at her. 'No, I'm just speechless; it all feels like a dream to me,' I say. Eunji laughed as he looked at me. 'You know, working at k-news is definitely exciting! But, I can't lie, it's also a very stressful job,' Eunji stated. She is correct; K-news is the largest news organization in South Korea, so we must keep up with the latest news.

'So, I was thinking about going on a day trip with Binna to get to know you better,' Eunji says as she checks her makeup in a small pocket mirror. 'Yes! 'I'd love to, but would Binna agree?' I questioned. She began to laugh at herself in the mirror. 'Actually, Binna would suggest it if she sees you; she is an outgoing person as well,' Eunji explained. I smiled as we both looked around Seoul. We decided to dine at a fancy restaurant in the heart of the city.

'This weekend, correct?' Eunji questioned. I smiled and nodded at her. To be honest, I can't believe how well everything is turning out. I have my dream job, and wonderful coworkers, and I live in the city. Binna and Eunji gave me a tour of k-news; it's incredible that they even have a restaurant that serves my favourite dish, Bulgogi. They showed me around k-news, West, North, East, and South, including the department where I work. There is also a private department for private investigators. The WDES is a private department that combines all departments. They showed me around and introduced me to some people, and let me tell you, the men who work there are k-drama lead roles worth watching.

'I hope you enjoyed the walkthrough we provided?' Binna says. I laughed and smiled at her. 'Of course! I described it as more fun than a walkthrough. Binna smiled and handed me a greeting card. It's a card with my name, a picture of myself, and the department where I work. 'You should always wear this card when entering the building, or you won't be able to get in,' Binna explained. I put on the card, and it looked so professional with my outfit that made me look like a CEO. 'It was great meeting you, Jia, but I have to go,' Binna says. Eunji gave her a puzzled look.

'What's the rush?' Eunji mentioned. Binna grabs her coat and scarf and puts them on. 'All right, I have a date,' Binna spoke quietly. Eunji begins to laugh. 'Who is the fortunate girl?' She questioned. 'Binna grabs her bag and rushes to the door. 'Her name is Ari, but I'm not going to tell you anything else,' she said as she walked out of the office.

'You'll get used to her soon,' Eunji assured me. It was getting late, and it was very dark outside. 'Thank you for being so kind to me today,' I tell Eunji. She hugged me and smiled. 'No need to thank me; I have a good vibe and believe we will get along well,' she says. I returned her smile and we decided to walk together to our destinations. Eunji lives a few streets behind me.

We had some interesting conversations while walking; I only met her today but already know a lot about her. She's a party animal, loves to cook, and attends sewing workshops every Wednesday, as I discovered. We arrived at my building and said our final goodbyes. When I walk into my apartment, the first thing I do is lie down on my bed and grab a small snack. I watch the most recent episodes of the k-drama I'm watching and go through all of the messages I've received. Binna, Shiwoo, and Jimin all sent me messages. The first message I read is from Jimin.

Jimin: Hello, little sis! I hope you had a great day at work today. Tell me everything you know! We miss you at the restaurant, but everything is fine. I adore you x

As I read the message, I start to smile, realizing that this is exactly what I needed to end the day. Everything seems to be going well for me right now. To be honest, I only feel like one thing is missing as the puzzle pieces fall into place, and that is love. I replied to Jimin with a lengthy message in which I detailed my day. The next message is from Shiwoo, and I hesitate to open it because I feel bad for abandoning him so that I can finish the puzzle and live my life with Shiwoo, my first love. But I have a feeling he's not the one.

Shiwoo: Hello, Jia. I hope your first day was a success. Please keep us in mind. Do you really want to leave everything we've built behind? Shiwoo.

I despise the way he speaks; he is always pushing. I know he loves me and wants me back, but it feels like a chore; it no longer feels like love. I'm at a loss for words and have decided not to respond. Binna sends the final message.

Binna: Hey! Did Eunji hand over the card code and papers to you? I asked her to give it to you because I had forgotten. Please let me know if you have it or not, as it is critical. Binna

Eunji didn't give me a code, and it is already midnight, but I decide to call Eunji because the situation was critical. Eunji, on the other hand, was still awake and had been watching k-dramas since she got home from work. We decided to meet a couple of streets away so that we could walk the same distance. When I looked outside, it was raining, so I grabbed my umbrella and began walking through the streets. Even when it's raining, Seoul is still beautiful.

Eunji appears further down the street in her adorable pink pyjamas. 'Eunji!' I call to let her know I was there. She returns my wave, as do I. 'I'm sorry, I completely forgot about it,' Eunji stated. She handed me the documents and my personal code. 'This is your code to access certain areas of the building, so you'll need your card and code to enter,' Eunji explained. I can tell she's tired and exhausted. 'Thank you, Eunji. 'Get some rest and sleep well,' I advise. She tucks her hands into her jacket to keep warm. 'I was the one who forgot, thanks Jia, see you tomorrow,' Eunji says.

We both said our goodbyes and left. It was getting late, and being in an unknown location at midnight made me nervous. I start walking faster because it's getting windy and my umbrella is almost flying away. I arrive at my street while walking and saw the same man who had run into me the day before. He walks in the middle of the road without even thinking about moving to let someone pass. He's dressed entirely in black this time, with a hat, mask, and sunglasses. Despite the fact that the road is so narrow, he still ran into me without apologizing. He's quite tall, and you can tell he goes to the gym in his spare time.
