Chapter 4

1082 Words
When my alarm goes off, all I can think about is what happened the day before. I can't believe how a random person on the street can ruin an entire day. I take a few deep breaths and head to my closet in search of an outfit that screams journalist. I pull out a suit Jimin gave me. I put it on, and looked in the mirror, and it was, as she said, a perfect fit. I take my bag with all of my belongings and look in the mirror. 'It'll be fine, today will be an amazing day,' I tell myself. I open my apartment door and hear some people talking in the hallway. I slowly opened my door to see who it was. 'Jia! Hello and good morning! 'How did your first night go?' the landlord says. I rolled my eyes and planned to leave as soon as possible. 'It was nice, thanks for asking.' I replied, trying to sound enthusiastic. As I approach the lift, I notice the landlord following me. 'Jia! 'Where are you going at such an early hour?' He questioned. I'm at a loss for words because he's so annoying. 'I'm going to work, sir,' I said as I stepped into the lift. He joins me in the lift. I stand in the lift, trying not to catch any eye contact. 'Did you try the cupcakes from the store beneath?' He questioned. 'No', I said. 'Great, then we can go together!' He asks. I exit the lift as soon as it opens. 'Nice talking with you, bye!' I say. I check my phone while standing in front of my apartment building to find the bus stop. Something or someone is following me. 'Hello, there!' said someone. When I turn around, it is the person I met in the supermarket the day before. In the sunlight, he looks even better. 'Hello, Chul,' I said. He took a look at my phone. 'Are you looking for a bus stop?' he questioned. I nodded and showed him which one it was. 'I'm going that way, so let's walk together,' he says. We walked to the bus stop together. He told me a lot about himself, such as how he used to live in the village and how since moving to the city, his life has completely changed and he is now working as a teacher. 'It was nice talking to you, Jia,' I smiled and reflected on the fact that we had planned to meet in the supermarket today. 'Oh, I tried the snack you recommended, I can't believe I've never tried something so delicious!' 'I told him.' He began to laugh. 'I warned you!' ' he made clear. I saw my bus approaching and said my goodbyes to Chul. I boarded the bus and waved to Chul once more. I almost feel like a school lover who anticipates my arrival before my bus arrives. I take a seat at the bus's window and gaze out the window. I pull out my laptop to fully prepare for my first day of work. I occasionally lose sight of the fact that I came to Seoul for work and not for fun. I double-checked everything, and I need to go to floor 13 and ask for someone named Binna. I believe Binna is my boss, so I'm looking forward to finding out. I've never had a boss. Jimin was the only person I worked for, and she was always so nice and kind to her employees. I'm almost at the K-news building after one more bus stop. I take out my camera to see if my makeup and hair are still in good condition. I get to my feet and wait for the bus to come to a stop. I get off the bus and see the building from afar; it's massive. As I walk toward the building, my heartbeat becomes increasingly rapid. When I arrived, the doors automatically opened, and two people welcomed me and asked who I was. 'My name is Jia, and I'm a new journalist at K-news,' I introduced myself, trying to sound professional. They point me in the direction of floor 13. Inside, it appears to be very modern, and there is even a restaurant. As I enter the lift, another woman enters and takes a place next to me. She appears to be my age, if not younger. She is dressed simply and cutely, which made me feel like I was overdressed. The woman looks nervous as she stares at me. 'I'm sorry, but I have never seen you here before, and I know everyone,' she asks. 'Are you new around here?' I smiled at her and introduce myself. 'My name is Jia, and I'm the new journalist at k-news,' I introduced myself. She smiled broadly. 'No no no, I mean yes yes I'm so happy!' she responds by saying happily. I look at her and smile; she gives me a sense of calm, and to be honest, I think this girl will become my friend here at k-news. 'I've finally met my best friend!' 'My name is Eunji, and it's a pleasure to meet you,' she said, smiling. I return a smile. 'Nice to meet you as well!' I smiled. 'Are we going to be coworkers?' I questioned. She gives me a wide smile and nods a couple of times. 'Of course! Binna, our boss, informed me that a new girl had arrived today; we both work in the south section of k-news. That means we're in charge of all the news in the south. While we were walking out of the lift, she explained everything. She tells me that our boss is literally the best and that she only recently started working at k-news. When I asked her for advice on how to make a good first impression, she simply said, "Be yourself." 'Look at me, I'm literally the most simple girl you'll ever meet in Seoul,' she laughed. I laughed with her and felt instantly less nervous on my first day. 'All right, here's our workplace,' Eunji said. We both enter the room, which has an incredible view and all modern facilities. It's quiet, and I don't see anyone. 'Binna! Where have you gone? ' Eunji yelled. She looks around, looking for our boss. I'm at a loss for what to do, so I look for her everywhere. When I open the door, I see a young woman playing with two kittens.
