Chapter 10

Ava’s Point of View I gasp softly as I wake up. My heart is racing in my chest, my skin feels hot and my breathing is uneven. For a few seconds I just lie there staring up at the ceiling, trying to figure out what the hell just happened. Or rather… What the hell I just dreamed. I press the back of my hand against my forehead. “Oh my God…” I whisper and the dream replays in my mind before I can stop it. I’m back in that motel room, the same room from that night. The light is dim, the smell of whiskey and his cologne surrounds me. His dark eyes watching me, his tongue all over my body... The slow, amlost predatory smile on his face. My hands sliding up his chest and his muscles tensing under my touch... The way he kissed me, his hand gripping my waist, the other tangled in my hair... I groan and bury my face in my pillow. “Seriously?” I mutter to myself. My heart is still racing, my body is still warm, and my brain refuses to stop replaying that stupid dream. “That’s just great...” I mutter again as I stare up at the ceiling. I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself down, trying to slow my breathing. “Get it together Ava.” I mutter again, taking another breath but it doesn't seem to help. I sigh loudly before sitting up. “I need water.” I murmur as I swing my legs off the bed and stand. As I walk past Luna’s bed, something catches my attention and I stop, staring at her bed that is indeed empty. I frown. “That’s weird.” I murmur again, glancing at the clock on my nightstand. 2:45 AM. What the hell… Maybe she’s in the bathroom. I glance at the bathroom door is open and it is dark inside. I look back at her bed again, and I notice something else. Her phone, is still sitting on her nightstand. My frown deepens. Okay… that’s weird... Where would she go without her phone? I shake my head and walk towards the small kitchen. I grab a glass and fill it with water. As I take a long sip, my gaze drifts back yo her bed and my mind starts wondering again. Did she go somewhere? At almost three in the morning? I ask myself as I take another sip of water. Maybe she couldn’t sleep... But why would she leave her phone? I wonder, leaning against the counter and my brain keeps spinning. Did she go meet someone? I shake my head as soon as the thought enters my head. No… she would have said something. Right? I’m still staring at the glass in my hand when the door suddenly opens and shuts. I freeze before I slowly turn around. Relief fills me when I see Luna standing in the doorway, but it doesn’t last long and I frown again as I stare at her. Her hair is messy. Her clothes looks rumpled, and I swear I see mud on her clothes. She freezes misstep when she sees me. “Oh… you’re up.” She says nervously. I stare at her for a few seconds before I fold my arms in front of my chest. “Really? That’s all you’re going to say?” I ask her with a raised eyebrow. She raises her eyebrow at me as well before she shrugs slightly. “What do you want me to say?” She asks and I frown. “It’s almost three in the morning. Where were you?” I ask her as she walks past me towards her bed. “I couldn’t sleep, so I decided to go for a run.” She says casually and I arch my brow at her again. “At three in the morning?” I asks and she shrugs again. “Yeah.” “Why would you go running around outside at this hour? Alone?” I ask and she frowns at me. “I told you. I couldn’t sleep. So I went for a run.” “That’s crazy Luna!” I say, but she jusr rolls her eyes at me. “It’s really not.” "Yes, it was amd dangerous!" I snap at her. She stops and turns to look at me. “I was perfectly safe, and I know how to take care of myself.” She says, her voice tight, which makes my frown deepen. “Luna…” She sighs. “What Ava?” She asks slightly annoyed and I sigh, shaking my head. “Nothing.. Just... At least bring your phone next time.” I say, pointing at her nightstand. She glances at it and shrugs again. “I told you, I was fine.” “Luna, that’s just crazy and irresponsible and I don't believe it one second. Just tell me what is going on?” I ask slowly. She folds her arms in front of her chest, just staring at me for a few seconds before she sighs loud. “Just drop it Ava. It's not my fault you don't believe it. I told you, even though I don’t have to explain myself to you.” She says her tone sharp now. “Now, if you don’t mind, I am going to take a shower and get into bed.” slShe says, grabbing some clothes, before she walks into the bathroom. The door closes behind her and I stare at it for a few seconds. “What the hell was that?” I mutter, shaking my head slightly. The uneasy feeling from earlier creeps back into my chest. The same feeling I had at the hospital. That same feeling when her or Spencer's eyes do that weird thing... I shake my head and I sigh. No. You’re imagining things. I hear the shower turning on. I sighs again before downing the rest of my water and making my way back to my bed. I climb under the covers. A few minutes later the shower shuts off and not long after the bathroom door opens and Luna walks back out. She dries her hair with a towel before tossing it on the chair at her desk, then she climbs into her bed without another word. And the room falls quiet. I sigh softly. “Goodnight.” I say quietly. “…Night...” She murmurs back. I turn onto my side and I close my eyes, trying to let it go, trying to ignore the weird feeling sitting in my chest. But as sleep slowly pulls me under again, my mind drifts back to the dream. To those dark eyes... To the way he smiled... The way he said my name... And the way he kissed me. I groan softly into my pillow. “Seriously… Ava? Get a grip.” I force myself to think about something else, and for a while it works, but somehow… that handsome stranger is the last thing on my mind before I fall asleep again.
