My expectations were dashed when the grey-eyed man and the Jeep's driver, Kevin, emerged from behind a tree.
"Of course, my usual luck..." I mumbled under my breath, and Alex gave me an amused glance before turning his attention to the approaching males.
"Yeez, guys, I thought you had lost him. "What is taking you so long?" The man with gray eyes said. Alex's response, "He didn't get very far Anton because he tripped over a root, but he doesn't want to answer our questions," irritated me.
"No s**t Sherlock," I mumbled something furious, but I quickly shut my lips as Alex gave me a dark look.
"He said he ran into a pole." Adam sighed, and I couldn't help but grin at the grey-eyed man, Anton, who gave me a puzzled look.
"A pole?" He replied, looking at me skeptically, and I tried to grin as innocently as possible. I knew he didn't believe it, but I wasn't ready to reveal my lie now.
"Did I forget to mention how evil-looking the pole looked?" I murmured, shaking my head and trying to seem mournful.
"Okay, that's all! I'm going to demand a response from you, buddy." Alex snarled and turned to me with an annoyed expression. He began creeping towards me, and I felt my eyes widen as I strained to break free from Adams' grasp.
"Hey, let me go!" "The dog is after my blood," I shouted in a phony feminine voice, and I saw Alex's eyes become a dark stormy blue. Anton looked at me, but before Alex could respond, he added, "Alex, don't bother. We'll get the answer from him later." Let's go before it gets dark."
Alex angered Anton before turning to me and pointing to my chest, saying, "Fine, but only if I get to mark him first."
After a second, I felt Adam nod behind me, and when Anton nodded too, Alex sneered at me. He dropped his hand and moved closer, leaning down towards me.
What exactly did he mean by "mark me"?
"You should not have called me a dog; I will make you regret it. Prepare yourself "Sparky" because when we get home I'll make you beg." He said, his eyes dark and naughty, and my rate quickened slightly.
"Sparky? Doggy, couldn't you come up with something better? And as for begging, that's not my thing." I smiled at him, attempting to seem calm even though I was far from it. Alex gave me an amused smile and a wicked grin before responding:
"We'll see about that, won't we?"
